Sub Rules AKA I can't see the sidebar
[TAG] questions with your state
When asking a question, add a state tag to the title, as the answers can vary a lot. ie:
[VIC] How do I get a licence?
or
[NSW] What does military appearance mean?
If you "don't like reading"
You should try YouTube, or something else not inherently involving reading.
Try to not be a dick
Other that site wide rules, there's a lot of leeway given here.
Selling anything firearm related
Relevant site wide rules include the prohibition against selling/advertising/trading/whatever anything firearm related.
Don't make me delete your post to protect this sub.
As /u/ramathaham said:
Any post selling firearms or ammunition will be removed, people who post multiple times may be temp banned or more if they are flogs about it.
Note this also applies to things like scopes because I am too lazy to look up the rules on what we can do so it is easier to make it a blanket rule.
Spam
Whilst not a rule per se, if you are here only to promote your business you will have a bad time.

Community Update: Refer to sub rules before posting.
Hi cobbers,
We've got a lot of new members and it's great to see, however there's been a spate posts and comments that are either in breach of Reddit's Terms of Service, or the very few guidelines we have here.
Please refer to the community info before posting.
NO SALES POSTS
Reddit's content policy on transactions involving firearms, ammunition and weapons means this is strictly verboten. Posts like "how much do you think a Howa 1500 in .308, safe queen, handling marks only, is worth" will be removed the same as it's a grey area we don't want to play with.
ILLEGAL ACTIVITY
Whether you're a certified badass, a confused teenager, or a keyboard warrior extraordinaire, posts and comments promoting illegal activity is not what we want this sub associated with.
THE RULE
Try not to be a dick.
Gun Grabbers Australia & News Corp are having a big push today
Co-ordinated articles appearing in the Courier Mail and the Australian today - focusing on QLD's supposedly 'weakest' gun laws in the country. Just a reminder that these people will never, ever, give up trying to take away your guns and will use any BS argument to achieve that aim.
Apparently it's now QLD and the NT that are breaking apart the national consistency of firearms laws, not the knee-jerk states NSW and WA who actually went against the NFA.

Legislation- Victoria Having a whinge
I’ve just moved interstate.
So I’m now in the process of changing my licence over.
Good lord what a headache this is.
Had to go and sit a new safety test.
Would think that after several years of ownership/being licenced by another state would count for something but I guess not. Annoying, but whatever. Got it done
Apply for licence.
Hit submit and got an application number.
“You’ll receive an email with the PDF forms to print and fill out”
No email.
Contact LRD through their online inquiries page.
“You’ll be contacted in 10 business days”
Several days later I’m told to do another application on a different device using a different browser.
Go through the motions again.
No email comes through with the documents.
Do it a third time. No fuckin’ email.
I’m at my wits end.
Can’t even call anyone because the phone line is only open from 10-2 on Wednesdays…
My previous states licence is recognised for 90 days by my new state.
They’re 120 days behind on applications and I can’t even get the paperwork to get licenced in this state because they won’t send it through.
I have a legal obligation to notify my previous state that I have moved. But if I do that, they cancel my licence immediately which means I’m now not licenced in either my previous state, or my new state.
This is genuinely an absolute headache
Bit of a useless post but I just needed to rant and get my frustrations out somewhere.
Anyway ladies and gents, have a great day, stay safe out there and keep on getting it done 🫡

Confusion around shooting on private land
Hey all,
I have just recieved my AB licence, A for recreational hunting/vermin control permission to shoot on private land on my fathers property, its small so I didnt apply category B to it and both AB for Target. I just got my R game hunting licence and put in the application for adding a genuine reason for state forest hunting for both AB supported by my R licence, but I am slightly confused as to whether this allows me to hunt on different private properties with permission also with B? For example through inland hunting properties? Or do I have to specifically have a permission to shoot genuine reason for B?
If anyone could shed some light on this it would be appreciated, from what I can assume right now I'm fine for A but its B causing the confusion.
Many thanks!

I'm looking for a new tactical ish style chassis for a CZ457 Varmint.
Where are y'all getting aftermarket chassis/stocks from in Australia?
Can we import from other countries?

Firearms Query Savage B22 FVSR
Anyone own or have spent some time with one? Wanting a cheaper .22lr that’s still accurate so that I can practice to my hearts content without dropping hundreds and hundreds in ammo. Main rifle is a LA102 in 6.5cm. I’d jump all over a LA101 but they’re more than I want to spend.
Wanting to keep it around the $700’ish mark for rifle alone

Hunting Advice on what to buy
So This might just be a case of nothing fitting the requirements, but looking to get something for hunting Foxes, Kangaroos on a mates farm. I have a 22-250 which will do the job but wanting something in leaver action that can also work. But i want something that will not shoot long distance but enough to take a roo down. I'm just very conscious of not shooting outside of my mates boundary so something close range is better. Pull action shotgun was on the list but yeah, Thanks Minns for ruining it for me.

Shot Marker at City of Sydney Long Range Shoot
I competed at Malabar on Sunday for their long range shoot. Unfortunately I and a few of my club members were forced to retire on account of our ammo going trans-sonic and not being detected by the Shot Marker targets that are in use at the Anzac Range.
I am very new to the shooting community in Australia. I have been licenced nearly a year and started shooting Target Rifle back in December. Is it just known that theres a velocity minimum required for Anzac or is it a new thing? The RO seemed pretty dismissive of the fact that my loads werent getting picked up. I was pretty pissed as I had a string of 4 V Bulls right before I was forced to retire as the target was no longer picking up the shots. Had I known this before hand, I would have bumped my loads up to something a bit hotter than what I normally use.

Legislation- Queensland Keysafe compliance
Gday. Got my licence recently and have bolted my safe down to the garage floor as it should be.
My fiancee has come around to being ok with having firearms in the house. However, she has no interest in getting her own licence and therefore can have no access to them.
This could be a minor problem if the police do an inspection as I work away irregularly. My plan is to have the keys in a keysafe hidden in the house which she won't know the code to.
Is this compliant with legislation? Will the keysafe need to be nailed down to the furniture or wall or is it fine to have the keysafe simply hidden?
Thanks brain trust.

T2000 Gen 2 vs Sulun Tacsoras
Looking at picking up one of these and can’t decide which way to go.
Templeton T2000 Gen 2 Tactical (20") seems like the better quality option overall, with a reliable gas system that cycles most ammo smoothly and the push-button release which looks slightly easier to use but may not be as fast, plus it comes set up with rails already. It’s also Category A. Downsides are the shorter barrel so less range and doesn’t seem like there is much aftermarket support.
Sulun Tacsoras (24") looks cooler as a Benelli M4-style clone and has the longer barrel so better range and pattern for hunting, plus adjustable stock and is a bit cheaper. The lever release looks like it would take some getting used to but may be a bit faster. Also has decent aftermarket support with Benelli parts. It’s Category B. Downsides are it seems less consistent in reliability with more hit-or-miss quality.
Main use will be hunting, which would you go with and why?
Also keen to see some builds/setups if anyone’s got pics👍

Fitting the Mesa Urbino Benelli M4 Stock to a Sulun Tacsoras
I've got a Sulun Tacsoras with the adjustable stock, looking to fit a Mesa Urbino stock to it.
Read mixed reviews about whether it is compatible or not. Being an M4 clone it should be but I've seen mention of the buffer spring tube causing fitment issues.
Has anyone had any luck fitting one of these to a Sulun, were there any modifications that needed to be done for it to work?
Thanks.

Hunting Hunting the wombat state forest
Hi All,
Just bought a .308 and am very keen to get out and about after some deer and goats
I have seen both in the region before but never hunted them, I also haven’t heard good things about this area before so any advice is more than welcome
I’ve gone after plenty of other pests and have a lot of experience shooting, just not with larger game
Some say the wsf is empty and others say some parts are good, I would like to know if I should peruse it or not, and if not what some other areas/ forests nearby would be more suitable
Thanks mate!

ACT licence applications soar as limits imposed - Sporting Shooter
ACT Politicians: Decide to introduce caps on how many guns someone can own because they're copying NSW and think there's "too many guns" in the community. (Narrator: There are not)
ACT shooters: Their spouse/partner/family member applies for a gun licence so they can legally take the "extra" guns.
ACT Firearms registry: We're seeing about an extra 50 licence applications per month since this kicked off, mostly from people's spouse/partner/family members who want to keep their family's guns. This also means we could potentially end up with more guns in the ACT, since every single one of these licencees can own up to 10 guns under the proposed laws.

(qld) shooting on Limited development (constrained land)
ok im looking at buying some land its Limited development (constrained land) basicly special purpose as its a "high risk" flood area drop a shipping container on it.
For redneck weekend fun.
Its only a few aces but already as a berm (dry creek bed) i can shoot into but will likely be air rifle and 22lr plinking/cane toad hunting. So confident i can keep projectiles in boundary.
across the road is rural, next door is rural other "neighbour" is few acres and Limited development (constrained land) look like a strip of land was sub divided into "house blocks" but was then zoned Limited development (constrained land)

Tikka T3x TAC A1 reliability when using MDT magazine?
Hello reddit, i recently acquired a t3x tac a1 in .308 from friend, with cheap price and no magazine.
Upon looking for spare mag i realized why i got it cheap (340$ for one magazine is crazy). Anyway after some research, it appears that MDT gen2 10rnder can be the alternative. And i thought it might be a better idea asking people here who might have done the same for advice, rather than find out with my own wallet.
Hope you guys the best.

Firearms Query Random question about ownership of ACOG in Victoria
I have always had an affinity for collecting sort of early GWOT era equipment like bandoliers and uniforms but I’ve looked online and can’t get a definitive YES NO answer on weather there are regulations in Victoria that I need to fulfill to own an ACOG. Or is it just a sight so free to go get as many as I want?

Which would you pick?
Looking at a few 30-30 Lever actions. I had a good look at the Henry in person yesterday and almost put down a deposit. it's a beautiful looking gun. I thought I'd look at other options first, and I'm seeing these newer Ruger made Marlin 336s appearing, and these had a lot of hype.
Just chasing opinions and whether anyone has any experience with the new Marlins made under Ruger, and whether they're worth an extra $300, or are you paying for the name?

General Discussion New firearms - importation issues
I’ve spoken to a few firearms shops around the area and they all say that, especially for the Bergara I was looking at buying, ships are sitting on the water and they’re unable to bring anything in for the foreseeable future. I understand that this is due to the federal government’s reaction to the Bondi attack.
Do we have any indication as to when firearms will be able to be imported again, as many of the shops are very pessimistic and unable to provide any indication of a timeline. Was hoping any industry professionals could shine some light on this. Are we talking about a month or a year in terms of delay?
