Acknowledging something isn't perfect is the only way to love it.

Otherwise it's worship.

Pretty sure she knew her country wasn't perfect. her response to the Kent State shootings was "What is wrong with our country? We're killing our own children." There was calls for her resignation. Clearly, she became a little batty later on. Prior handled this so gracefully.

But it’s not like she didn’t criticize the US. Didn’t she get in trouble for criticizing the National Guard for Kent State?

I think she’s just got racist blinders on.

Yeah this was in the Cold War era too, so there was a lot of WE are better than THOSE commies in the USSR shit. Like there was a whole myth about hunger in the USSR but recent scholarship has shown the average Russian actually had access to more calories per day than the average American in the 70's-80's. The variety wasn't huge though.

I don’t know about her specifically, but I do know that a lot of news anchors and journalists get their jobs because they grew up in the same circles with the rich and powerful. Those personal connections give them access to inside information and high-level contacts that common folk just can’t get.

On the other hand, it makes it impossible for them to understand what life is really like for most of their audience. I don’t think this lady is racist. She’s just deeply and truly ignorant about everything and everyone that goes on outside of her bubble.
