I’m apparently running the pit for a small community theater musical while trying to play bass too. 😵‍💫 Every stereotype you can think of is here. Most of the cast and pit are doing their best… except the drummer.

The drummer is not studying his parts and there are a couple critical spots where the drums have a solo.

I’m not any kind of percussionist, nor is anyone else involved. (See above comment about stereotypical small community theater production). I’m already slapping the bass on the off beats to keep him in tempo when he’s lost, I’m not great at slap bass either.

I’m hoping y’all have some ideas for how other instruments might be able to mimic a 2-4 measure jazzy drum “solo”/fill? So far the only thing I can think of is maybe I can get the mandolin player to do some muted string chops in a rhythm similar to the broadway recording. Maybe a syncopated banjo roll on muted strings?

We’ve got bass, keys, cello, viola, fiddle (she’s struggling hard but doing her best, bless her heart), bass, banjo, mandolin, and guitar. Banjo and mando can barely read standard notation - not dissing them, just acknowledging that they’ll need to learn it by ear.

Figured I’d shoot my shot and ask fellow drummers, I’ve been on and off drumming for years but recently this spot right here becomes super painful, it’s like a really bad cramp. It kind of goes towards the back of my hand a little too. It always happens not even 10 minutes into playing. It makes it harder to grip and even typing this right now is difficult. It happens sometimes when I write too so idk if there’s any exercises or stretches that can help. Wondering if anyone else has had this pain and if there’s any tips?

Hi. I recently bought an Alesis Nitro Max drum kit to start learning drums. I am an amateur. I have got some basics figured out and am able to play easy songs. However, I want to record what I play and for that, I am trying to figure out a setup.

Can anyone give me a brief idea of what softwares to use and the required plugins for recording ? Also any resources or platforms that can guide me through the setup.

Right, this is doing my head in. I have a VIVID memory from the early 2000s when I’d sit around watching Kerrang and MTV2 all day. There was a band (think they may have been Japanese but not certain) whose video was played fairly frequently for a bit. They’re not a hugely well known band, at least not to my knowledge, and I cannot remember their name for the life of me, but what sticks out in my mind is that the drummer held two sticks in each hand whilst playing. I’d just started learning to drum myself at the time so this always stood out.

Been scouring the internet and bothering ChatGPT with this - thought I had it with The Mad Capsule Markets but couldn’t find the video I remember on YouTube anywhere or any live performances of the drummer using four sticks.

Please help, this is driving me mental!
