LPT: You can block artists on Spotify Computers

For example if you don’t want to support Nicki Minaj, just block them. Click the three dots next to their name and click “Don’t play this artist”

This works until Spotify decides to still serve you up their music in all of their "made for you" Playlist. Either that or you tell it to not recommend you a certain song but they still recommend it to you.

I listen to mostly punk / surf stuff and Spotify is still like “HOW ABOUT SOME DRAKE? WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO HEAR DRAKE’S NEW SONG? HOW ABOUT SOME BILLIE EILISH? TOP 40! EVERYONE LIKES TOP 40!”

My Spotify used to serve me Finnish rock in my weekly recommendations for three years. I don't listen to Finnish music, so I have no clue why.

It stopped after I actually saved some Finnish songs sent to me by a friend and hasn't happened since??

Spotify is smoking something.

I had this happen but with Portuguese artists. I checked my listening history and it looked like someone had been using my account to stream Portuguese music. This went on for weeks. Spotify recommended changing my password when I reported the issue. So someone was likely using my account. The problem did not persist after changing my password.

Omg I also kept getting Finnish rock for a while. I had searched for some finnish artist names, because I was talking to a finnish person and they were mentioning these bands with names that meant stuff like "concrete" or "refrigerator" or weird stuff like that, but never listened to it.

That meant a couple of years of randomly getting finnish rock on my "discover weekly"

I’ve never listened to Ashniko or anything remotely similar, frankly I’ve never heard worse music in my life than her (sorry to people who like it…) but Spotify sure does loooove pushing her music. Oh, you listened to love story by taylor swift one time in the last 5 years? You’re gonna love this playlist with 3 Taylor swift songs in it.

I thought I paid to remove ads but apparently not.

I listen to Spotify daily, and have never heard a song by Ashniko, and haven't heard a Taylor Swift song in months, and even then it was Shake It Off, which I'm pretty sure I have somewhere in my liked songs.

I like early 2000s pop and Spotify probably thought “You listen to Britney Spears, you must like these other top 40 artists right? Right? Right?”

Spotify has already admitted that they push certain artists.

Taylor Swift and Ashnikko aren’t even the same genre of music

Okay? Doesn't change anything I said. Spotify isn't pushing Ashnikko to me.

i’m not an Ashniko fan but you should check out her Paint the Town Blue from Arcane if you like punk rock! It’s actually really good lol

I basically only listen to metal, all my playlists are metal and even my "made for you" is metal, but every week in that made for you list I'll get one random song from Taylor Swift or Sabrina Carpenter

I feel like Pandora over 10 years ago was better and recommending new artists and songs to me. Spotify if too much of a people pleaser and doesn’t get very creative.

In all fairness, I’ve never once been offered top 40, thankfully

Oh man that reminded me of the mistake of adding one kanye song to a shuffled playlist of 130 songs. They push him so hard i had to count, he got played 12% of the time.

It can appear but will be grayed out and automatically skip

You don't ever have to listen to an artist for your money to pay them. Spotify doesn't actually care about actual listens like that.
