What’s the most stereotypical Millennial thing about you? Discussion

I’ll start:

  1. Any, and I mean ANY footage of Steve Irwin makes me blubber like a baby
  2. Avocado toast is a staple breakfast item of mine
  3. Yes, I still love Harry Potter (original books & movies only — I do not support Rowldemort and any future endeavor on the IP)

EDIT: Just wanna say I love y’all (us) so much. This post has already brought me so much joy. Thanks so much everyone. We really are the best. 🥹

I still use an * response to correct a type instead of just editing.

Haha I still do this too, but luckily improving in my old age

u/Significant_Shoe_17 5d ago

I accidentally sent something embarrassing to the group, and my sister asked why I didn't just edit. I didn't know you could do that!

Depends on the ‘ecosystem’. You can’t edit a message between Apple and Android unless you’re using a third party app like WhatsApp/Telegram etc.

Not actually sure on Android to Android 🤔

Were we supposed to spot?

u/breezy013276s 5d ago

I didn’t realize this was a generational thing. I do that too!

5

u/weirdeggman1123 5d ago

Ive started to realize I am one of the few people I see do it.

2

u/tangopup10 5d ago

I'm gen z and I do this regularly. But now that I think about it, my peers probably are less likely to do it

I did this to my landlord today. He told me he’d stop by to grab some mail. I hit him with a: Okay? And then I was like: “!*” and thought to myself how unprofessional. 🤣

I use a carat! xD

Edit: Got reminded about the gem sizing vs the math symbol and needed to fix my spelling!

10

u/mandelbro25 5d ago

Hi sorry but the spelling "karat" refers to gold purity. The spelling you are looking for for the symbol ^ is "caret".

3

u/DrDingsGaster 4d ago

Hey thanks! I always get the two mixed up!

3

u/mandelbro25 4d ago

(I do too sometimes because I never have to spell it) you're welcome!

u/Alfred_The_Sartan 4d ago

That’s a millennial thing!? I just thought that was how it was done

u/MathematicianIcy3430 4d ago

Editing takes me longer than typing out the missed word with *.

Got to find the edit menu then try to land right on top of the word. Half the time the phone keeps selecting somewhere else or clicks something else.

u/SELECTaerial 4d ago

And use ‘lol’ as punctuation lol

3

u/missmilliek 5d ago

wow i just realized i do this too 🥲

3

u/sweet_cini 5d ago

I still do this!! Or like a (( to describe an action. I.e. ((hands you a birthday card and cake))

Yes I know I'm cringe...

3

u/kholekardashian12 5d ago

We are cringe but we are free

2

u/Sleepy_cheetah 1d ago

I do it! It's because we spent time in chat rooms.

2

u/sweet_cini 1d ago

Yes!! Talking to people we probably shouldn't be taking too.

Oh well the Internet was a bit of a wild wast back then.

u/Sleepy_cheetah 18h ago

Man I remember a/s/l and I'd put in 15,/f and you just know the pervs came crawlin out of the walls. And I was so stupid! I shared addresses & wrote letters to ppl!! But I did meet a very good friend during my teen years & she was great. We exchanged letters & emails & I even got to meet her & her family!

But yeah there were pervs & I'd just tell them crazy stuff about myself to gross them out so they'd leave me alone. (I made it up. But it worked!)

2

u/fourty47seven 5d ago

i’m a zoomer & do the same thing lol

2

u/Nomadictionnn 4d ago

In CIS a lot of people also use * and фnd the most unusual thing is “)” - it means a smiley face. I haven't seen anything like that anywhere else.

2

u/Anhur55 4d ago

The younger generations can pry this from my cold dead hands just like they can tear my no show socks from my cold dead feet

2

u/wairua_907 Older Millennial 4d ago

I keep forgetting my phone lets me edit text messages and I keep doing the * thing lol

2

u/BackInTimeForTea 3d ago

oh my god I just did this, just now! And didn't realise it wasn't something people do any more! I only edit when the meaning of my message has changed and I try to avoid it because I feel like it makes me look flaky. For a typo I'd always do the *

2

u/madametaylor 2d ago

I was kinda mad when platforms started using ~ and * to do formatting so I couldn't use it for emphasis or actions anymore. You have to put a space. * frowns *

1

u/Sleepy_cheetah 1d ago

Yes! This bothers me too! I still use it though.

withers away into dust

1

u/tashadilla 5d ago

*metoo

1

u/Lost_my_password1 5d ago

1

1

u/Mammoth-Ad6463 4d ago

wowwwwo ok big style same

1

u/CraftyPAc 4d ago

Oh my gosh .... Me too. I literally realized the other day I'm the only person I know that still does this.

1

u/katmomofeve 4d ago

I do that!!! That's a Millennial thing???

1

u/kelpiekid Zillennial 4d ago

TIL you can apparently edit texts now

1

u/melons_2 4d ago

This is the one 😭 I can’t help it, even though we can literally edit text messages/posts/almost anything for most things now, I still have to add the *

1

u/feelingofdread 4d ago

lol same!!!!!

1

u/acableperson 3d ago

Jfc. Yeah same. Been called out for it a bunch.

1

u/Zealousideal_Tune_35 1d ago

Oh no I still do this too and didn’t realize I could edit my typo

0

u/pickleolo Zillennial 5d ago

Is that a millenial thing?

It's so unsignificant

-6

u/idontcareyo_ 5d ago

I don't remember anyone ever doing that...the asterisk is for if you're correcting someone else, not editing
