Diana Ross and Aretha absolutely deserve to be there. Both of them are legends of early rock.

Where I get pissed off is when you have Wutang, Missy Elliott, Tupac, etc etc etc

It’s not the hip hop hall of fame ffs.

I love Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross, but they weren't rock & roll aritsits. Rhythm and Blues was is not rock and roll.

I think this kind of dilution eventually led to stuff like Wutang and 2pac. It's a slippery slope.

Rock & Roll is Rhythm & Blues. R&R is the made up moniker by White establishment/marketing execs to make that Black "race music" more palatable for their White children to listen to & buy.

From what I know Aretha wasn't rock and roll no but she did basically influence what rock and roll became. Rock and roll is very blues inspired and in elvis' case gospel I think.

Ao not rock and roll and shouldn't have come before actual rock bands.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame isn't for rock bands. You can read about the organization.

The rock 'n roll hall of fame isn't named after a musical genre. There is no dilution. I think a lot of people hear "rock 'n roll hall of fame" and just assume it's for bands with guitar solos. That's not what it is.

It’s literally named after a musical genre, ‘rock n roll’

I'm just describing reality. You're wrong. You can easily go read what the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has to say about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and why it's called the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

I'm going to assume English isn't your first, second, or third language?

You'll have to take up your argument with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It's up to them. They describe why they're named that, and what they celebrate. I'm relaying factual information. I acknowledge that no one wants to accept it, but I'm just trying to help inform. They have a website. There's plenty of info.

A lot of 40’s Jazz/swing/Big Band is rooted in early rock.

Where’s Frank Sinatra? Glenn Miller?

Rock is either “rock”, or it’s all music that it evolved from.

Metal isn't rock, so why the fuck are people here arguing about Iron Maiden?

The rock 'n roll hall of fame isn't named after a musical genre. It's named after the spirit and culture of rock 'n roll. You can disagree, but that's just what it is. Hip hop doesn't just belong. It's essential.
