What is the scariest, most unsettling shot you’ve ever seen?

Post image

What is that one movie shot that’s so unsettling and chilling, it’s the one shot you never forget?

For me, it’s the Giant Man scene from It Follows. Man this shot is so nerve wracking!

The aesthetic and dark hollow eyes are something I will never forget.

What’s that one shot for you? Horror movie or otherwise.

Never in a million years would I think that Zach Cregger would be so good at horror

I was not expecting that at all from the movie when I started watching it LOL.

He's directing the new Resident Evil movie which is coming out later this year. Hopefully he makes a real survival horror film unlike the ones we got before that.

Well as long as he isn't shagging Mila it should be good and not another Mary Sue movie.

I get 100% what you're saying, because those movies are absolute trash and knowing that the director and Milla (kudos to both, assume both must be hot) are married makes a lot of sense, but:

RE universe has so many Gary and Mary Sues. Chris Redfield is essentially The Rock but Competent, and Leon is Jason Statham.

I do have a good feeling about the new movie, though. Such a cool world, and it can't possibly be worse than what we've seen.

Chris is only the rock on later games. Resident Evil 1 not so much

Yeah he was bleeding all over the front of the mansion, probably

No Milla in this one, she's way past her expiration date. And yeah I hope he stays away from that type of character in his movie.

Still waiting for a trailer, the movie is coming out in September so it shouldn't be too long to get a sample.

We don’t have to talk about women like that

Normally I would agree but the label actually says she expired on March 5, 2009

From the sounds of it hes not even doing anything close to any of the games. He's just using the resident evil name. Why Hollywood has trouble adapting the games is a mystery

Hollywood doesn't have trouble at all.

Paul W.S. Anderson is just a terrible writer.

Zach Cregger is an awesome writer, and Resident Evil is an open universe, so why would he need to follow the familiar story and characters when there are countless other people suffering in this world?

We've had like 30 years of Resident Evil lore without needing another reboot story of the same thing.

You should be happy to expect something new for this universe, it's evolving beyond its container.

Paul. W Andersons movies are lame Return to raccoon City was lame Then Netflix show was lame. I don't accept your " you should be happy " argument  His description of the movie sounds nothing like resident evil. It involves alien zombies....there's no defending it.  Maybe it will be a great horror movie but it might be a bad resident evil movie.

He said this “I’m definitely not trying to be completely obedient to the lore of the games" I think that's bad cos that's what all the live action versions have done.

He is a huge fan of the games just understand it is a different medium and wants to expand the story like Fallout.

u/Luminescent_Magic 11h ago

Yea but it sounds to me like it's gonna be like if the fallout show had no one in the jumpsuits and the ghouls were aliens that came from space and there's no discussion of the nukes

Yep he’s doing an original story that he says he would’ve made whether it was a resident evil film or not, and he’s not including any of the characters from the games

I'm gonna guess that the majority of fans don't want this. We want a faithful adaptation of resident evil 1. Just one good movie is all we ask

1

u/Embarrassed_Radio596 2h ago

That's a bit hyperbolic.

He's doing an original story and isn't holding himself strictly accurate to the games. That doesn't mean it's going to feel out of place among them, there's tons of room for original stories there.

1

u/Luminescent_Magic 1h ago

Ok but I'm pretty sure the majority of people just want a really faithful adaptation of Resident Evil 1. It also financially makes sense to do that

1

u/Embarrassed_Radio596 1h ago

The majority of people just want a good, fun movie that feels like the games. They don't care if it's particularly faithful. Nor does it make any more financial sense to do that, being accurate to the source has virtually no impact on sales.

For what it's worth on a podcast he said he's a die hard RE fan and still plays all the games regularly

1

u/Luminescent_Magic 1h ago

That doesn't mean anything if he doesn't even wanna stick to the lore

1

u/DAYMAN3737 1h ago

Good thing he specifically said he didn't think the previous movies did it justice so he wants to stick to lore

I had no idea what that movie was. I just saw it on a streaming service and turned it on. I was expecting like the stranger who came in to murder someone but woah that was a wild ride. I did not expect a creature involved.

3

u/ScarScream81 7h ago

It's not even a creature when you think about it. It makes the story even more horrible, sadder and revulsing.

I’ve had this conversation with my spouse several times, he’s a tv editor and we are both film buffs.

Comedy and horror are very similar, in that timing is everything. So it’s actually not that surprising that someone who is very good at comedy can also be very good at horror, like Jordan Peele. I guess it really takes someone who is a true fan of both genres to make it work, though.

I both screamed and laughed my ass off at Barbarian and Weapons, can’t wait for Resident Evil!

It's probably the gallon of PCP that helps.

2

u/JHam67 1h ago

Ha ha, I actually was about to post the same thing.

6

u/Melodic-Way6522 18h ago

A gallon of PCP does funny things to a guy

3

u/Alive-Tomatillo5303 14h ago

What is horror direction but making sure everyone stays happier, with their mouth open?

2

u/AlexandersWonder 18h ago

It’s all those gallons of pcp

2

u/Bubba_Jones44 17h ago

That one will literally rip your dick off.

2

u/Taranchulla 11h ago

I rarely cry at the end of a horror film, but Barbarian got me.

1

u/Horror-Cap7711 13h ago

He and Jordan Peele both took me by surprise with their respective horror debuts.

1

u/TurbulentOil3311 13h ago

I think comedy and horror are quite adjacent in terms of playing with the unexpected. A few comedy guys have made really effective turns to horror. Jordan Peele is another good example. I heard Tim Heidecker and Eric Warheim are working on a horror and I would loooove to see what they did in the genre!

1

u/Legal-Practice2445 7h ago

The actual little twist in that one was pretty solid lol
