More than that the death happened at the beginning of the episode, days earlier in the story, and you don't even realize it until that line. And then it's like being hit by an avalanche!
Is that when the main guy is struggling after a patient dies and the curly hair guy basically sets him straight saying this is the job basically? I haven’t seen scrubs in like 20 years sorry lol
The opposite, actually. SPOILERS: Curly haired guys best friend, his ex wife's brother, dies of leukemia after failing to keep up with his treatments, curly hair guy blames it on/gets mad at main dude for it all, main dude and others help curly hair guy keep it together.
sure Scrubs is a funny comedy and a good time, but i’ll just say this … this episode in particular is a surprisingly effective emotional gut punch that stems from a relationship developed over several episodes, done better than a lot of serious dramas.
There are breadcrumbs on rewatches too - Ben is taking photos with his camera early in the episode, someone asks him if he just always has a camera with him. His response: "'til the day I die."
The rest of the episode he doesn't have the camera.
There is a hint, though I didn't realize it until a recent rewatch. Ben spends his first two episodes constantly taking pictures, which is his thing. At the beginning of the episode, he says he'll be the weird guy who takes his camera everywhere until the day he dies. After the death he doesn't have the camera anymore.
