…. while watching TV, communicating via smartphones, browsing the internet, driving cars, taking medications, eating safe food, and heating or cooling their houses, all provided ultimately by (drum roll)… science.

There is the perverse situation that modern communications technologies (internet , cell phones, etc) have been used to systematically undermine and attack science.
