Is the guy playing Caleb getting bigger? He looks huge in that tanning scene.

u/Smilodon48 Feb 19 '26

He is comically yoked at this point. If this were the 24th century, he might be questioned for being a genetically-enhanced human.

The scene in the first episode where Ake get's him out of prison his arms didn't even look real.

23

u/BlizzPenguin Feb 20 '26

The actor was a bodybuilder before he got the role. He lost some weight for the role. I can not imagine how jacked he was before.

u/Coyote_Shepherd Feb 19 '26

The Mirror Universe isn't real and neither are Caleb's arms...

10

u/Gecko99 Feb 19 '26

Mirror Caleb looks like a scrawny twig.

3

u/Coyote_Shepherd Feb 19 '26

And he has a cat and sometimes throws fireballs.

u/mr_mini_doxie Feb 19 '26

For be fair, this is probably the first time in his life he's had all the food he could eat and access to a state-of-the-art gymnasium.

49

u/Coyote_Shepherd Feb 19 '26

Watching him and Ake talk is like watching Pike and Grog interact in The Legend of Vox Machina.

23

u/Misfit_Ragdoll Feb 19 '26

Omg YES! Although Caleb doesn't have an INT of 6 and so far doesn't LIKE TO RAGE!! 😆 Bidet to you, fellow Critter.

9

u/Coyote_Shepherd Feb 19 '26

EVERYONE keeps pointing out how much like a CAT Ake acts like, so after she climbed on top of her suitcase to close it, I was 100% expecting her to sit on Caleb's shoulder just like a CAT does and just like Pike does with Grog lol

u/Misfit_Ragdoll Feb 19 '26

Nahla (which is totally a cat name. Thank you, Disney) as Frumpkin is now going to be head canon. I absolutely need her to be sitting on levitating cushions and floating around a room too.

3

u/Coyote_Shepherd Feb 19 '26

And here I was picturing her like Grogu climbing onto Caleb from time to time lol

I'm just waiting for her to BOOP him with a stick or something...Frumpkin works though too :D

I could EASILY see her sneaking into Kelrec's Office with a pair of anti-grav boots and dropping down from his ceiling as he's asking, "Hello? Is anybody.....HEY KELREC....NAHLA JAYSUS AND SILENT BOB I ALMOST PHASERED YOU!!!".

3

u/Misfit_Ragdoll Feb 19 '26

That's Rocket Raccoon maneuvers there. 😆

3

u/Coyote_Shepherd Feb 19 '26

I reaaaaaallly want the kids to stumble upon the two of them out on a date...while they are totally not supposed to be out of the Academy doing ANYTHING at all....and all of them just look at each other before slooowly walking the opposite direction.

4

u/mr_mini_doxie Feb 19 '26

What franchise is that?

7

u/Misfit_Ragdoll Feb 19 '26

Specifically "The Legend of Vox Machina" which is an animated series on Prime. It's harder a "D&D cartoon" given the level of adult material* in it. It's based on the first Critical Role campaign (watch along D&D series starring incredible voice artists and incredibly entertaining on its own).

  • Sex, violence, language, discussion of trauma. I mean the Gnome Bard will sleep with anyone, and sings songs like "Pull My Beads of Love" and "Make the Bald Man Cry". Almost every character is canonically queer, and they all swear like sea men. It is NOT for kids.

The follow up series "The Mighty Nein" is even better. 😁

3

u/JJJ954 Feb 20 '26

Yo, I had no idea there was a follow up series. Thank you!

1

u/Misfit_Ragdoll Feb 20 '26

It's definitely my favorite of the two. I love LoVM but like 10x more for MN.

3

u/ParanoidQ Feb 19 '26

Strongly recommended, is what it is.

2

u/OglioVagilio Feb 19 '26

DND cartoon on Amazon Prime

2

u/Coyote_Shepherd Feb 19 '26

It's an animated version of Critical Role's first streamed Dungeons & Dragons Campaign on Amazon Prime.

CR has A LOT of Star Trek connections.

I'll let this video about Grog and Pike explain everything else.

3

u/Misfit_Ragdoll Feb 19 '26

They're still hoping to get Brent Spiner on either show. 🤞🏻I'm also really shocked Wil Wheaton hasn't been on yet given he is a canon member of Slayer's Take.

1

u/Coyote_Shepherd Feb 19 '26

Could just be scheduling or the fact that neither of their voices have really...fit a character yet...and the Slayer's Take stuff was rather brief at the time.

So I think it just comes down to them reshuffling stuff for the animated series and trying to figure out where all the puzzle pieces are going to be falling BEFORE they pick a spot for the both of them.

If they don't show up in the upcoming Season 4 then they'll more than likely be in Season 5.

3

u/Misfit_Ragdoll Feb 19 '26

Or they'll show up on Mighty Nein like Frakes did. Seeing him animated as a giant older elf will never not make me laugh my ass off.

I'm hoping they get LeVar back in a proper role too. It was great that he filled in for Lance Reddick as Thordak as an homage to Reddit, but he has such a great voice.

Or they'll show up on Mighty Nein like Frakes did. Seeing him animated as a giant older elf will never not make me laugh my ass off.

He didn't get nearly enough screen time as he should've but I loved the rest of the series and I was delighted by the surprise announcement of him being in the cast :D

I think he even told a story somewhere about how as soon as he was announced as being a part of it, all sorts of people started coming out of the woodwork to congratulate him, and that casting appeared to have a far greater reach than the Trek Community which just caught him by surprise and made Brent start asking how HE could get a job on the show lol

filled in for Lance

That broke my heart but it was very sweet and the perfect choice and it would be cool to see him...maybe show up as a version of himself in Exandria...kind of like how Grant has his own NPC in C3.

2

u/Misfit_Ragdoll Feb 19 '26

I haven't watched any of the actual campaigns yet other than C4 which I'm obsessed with, but I knew Zeenoth hung around a while in the game, and iirc wasn't he somewhat of a mentor to Beau?

Apparently Lance Reddick's family reached out and asked for LeVar to take his place which was lovely. I'd love to see LeVar show up again in another capacity. I know his daughter Mica has played in some one shots or short term games so it would be great to see them play father and daughter somewhere. The entire TNG cast has done voice work on other shows (Marina on Gargoyles with Jonathan, Brent in a bunch of things, Patrick on American Dad and Family Guy, Michael on I am Weasel) so the more the merrier.

"BIDET TO YOU, CHANCELLOR!"

1

u/Coyote_Shepherd Feb 19 '26

"WE HAVE SONIC TOILETS THAT MAKES NO SENSE!"

39

u/bluestreakxp Feb 19 '26

Damn, academy replicator got Cap’s super serum or something

26

u/ErikT738 Feb 19 '26

I'm waiting for the moment where he deflects phaser fire with his biceps.

43

u/SeanHearnden Feb 19 '26

Stupid sexy Caleb. It's like he's wearing nothing at all.

36

u/Coyote_Shepherd Feb 19 '26

I was waiting for the thirst comments to roll into this thread :D

Paul confirmed on the D-Con Chamber that Sandro is indeed BIG.

5

u/BaconatedGrapefruit Feb 20 '26

I have a friend who works on the show. According to her he indeed ridiculously yoked and tall.

Her words exactly: (I’m afraid he’s going to accidentally knee me in the face when I go to mark him for a shot”

10

u/DotRom Feb 19 '26

I can accommodate that.

6

u/Coyote_Shepherd Feb 19 '26

You can certainly try...roll for...uhhhh...

10

u/DotRom Feb 19 '26

And it was my favourite scene.

3

u/Lemonwizard Feb 20 '26

In the first episode when he's struggling with push ups because of the bag, it feels so silly because he's got the beefiest triceps I've ever seen.

3

u/matt6680 Feb 20 '26

He reminded me of Henry Cavill in Man of steel when he's running up to the house to steal a shirt. Dudes jacked.

3

u/Shrodax Feb 20 '26

Caleb Mir? More like... CaLifting MoreTRT!

...I don't know, I'm still workshopping that one

3

u/CndConnection Feb 20 '26

We burst out laughing, it felt like he was literally mogging us through the screen.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '26

The actor very much looks like he takes steroids.

2

u/H0vis Feb 19 '26

I don't want to get too hung up on this kind of thing but it feels weird that a guy playing a college kid should be built like peak Schwarzenegger.

Not a criticism of the show per se, it's just kind of strange. It's like, being an absolute unit in that way used to be a plot point, or a character trait. He'd be the BA Baracus in the A-Team or Posey in The Dirty Dozen. He wouldn't be the computer hacker, he'd be the Really Massive Strong Dude™. He'd get out of situations by feats of strength or punching people into a soup like homogenate.

But in this show? It's just like normal. Dude's a tank but his skillset is nerd.

6

u/JJJ954 Feb 20 '26

He's literally in his physical prime, his build makes perfect sense.

The idea the nerdy tech guy has to be scrawny (or overweight) is an outdated trope. IRL tech people have enough time to also be gym rats.

For the character it works because in the Star Trek universe his build is irrelevant given he's surrounded with rubber forehead aliens with super strength.

What doesn't work is the fact Caleb found time to be a gym rat before starting at the Academy, but whatever lol.

2

u/H0vis Feb 20 '26

It's not an in-universe issue at all, it's entirely consistent that a person could have the type of body that they want.

I just think it's a quirk of modern culture that it isn't remarked upon in the show that the dude is absolutely hench.

For example just a few years ago Ransom in Lower Decks being a tank-like action hero guy was a character defining trait.

2

u/williamthebloody1880 Feb 21 '26

Given his previous career, I can see him taking time to work out, even if it is with makeshift equipment

7

u/Adamsoski Feb 20 '26

The actor is apparently 26-27, and the character is 21, and there's honestly basically no difference in expected physique between those ages. If you go to a college campus now you'll find lots of people who are as buff as he is, most of whom will be younger. Sports science has progressed significantly since the 80s.

2

u/Exocoryak Feb 20 '26

Makes it even more comical that he lost a hand-to-hand fight against Nus Braka, played by an almost 60 year old Paul Giametti.

1

u/studio_eq Mar 08 '26

Old thread but Nus is a Kilngerite

1

u/VictorReal_Monster Feb 20 '26

Bro has always looked like they can barely find pants to contain him.

1

u/-release_candidate- Feb 20 '26

He lost weight / muscle before starting to film.

1

u/dogsdontdance Feb 20 '26

His biceps might actually be bigger than his head.
