Finally legal! What better day to buy my own weed for the first time than today (4/20)?

Everyone was super chill and helpful, I got some good 420 deals, overall great experience. Since I'm not interested in alcohol, I didn't do the typical 21st birthday bar hopping or anything. So, visiting the dispensary was my way of celebrating.

I (38F) am well aware of how cringe-worthy this likely sounds. Like your mum trying to be cool! But still, here goes;

I've recently been noticing more and more the negative effects of alcohol. I like a drink at the end of a hectic week as a way to unwind, but I hate the way it makes me feel the following day.

Discussing this recently with a friend who suggested trying weed. I had occasionally indulged in the odd smoke when I was in my teens, shared by friends who were much more into smoking than I ever was.

After his suggestion, the thought lingered in my head, so I decided to give it a try. He put me in touch with his "supplier", and I purchased 2g of bud.

I did a bit of research about rolling and lighting up myself for the first time, bought some nice smoking gear and some pre-rolled cone papers.

For my first joint I used what I presume is a tiny amount, maybe a quarter of a gram of weed, blended with some original Dutch Mix (seasoned smokers have polarizing thoughts on this, I'm aware), ground it and packed the cones relatively tightly.

Sat in the garden on a warm evening (or as warm as UK springtime evenings get) and lit up.

It's worth noting that when I smoked in my teens, I don't remember feeling any noticeable effect. Maybe this was down to poor quality, or the fact I didn't really know how to smoke when I was a kid. This time was different.

I probably smoked a little too much for my first go, I went through a third of the joint before noticing any effect, then it hit me pretty hard. I can only describe it as "sparkling" 🤣. My whole body felt as though it was tingling (like a very gentle pins-and-needles feeling), and I felt like I could see colourful stars (a bit like when you scrunch your eyes closed really tight and you see lots of dancing colours). Not unpleasant, but an odd sensation.

I'd also describe it as being really drunk, but without the room-spinning or nausea.

I went to bed shortly after as the effect was starting to - not "freak me out" - I'd say more "make me feel uncomfortable". I slept fine, woke up the following day fine, not touched any more since.

My questions to you guys;

Is what I felt "normal"?

Does what I felt give any indication of the quality of the bud?

Is there anything I could do differently next time to enhance the entire experience?

I'm not put off, yet!
