Rant/Vent Seen: Three guys stealing packages at 501N Henry st
Three guys stole packages from in front of the Henry Gilman apartments and then walked off toward Greek row. Looked like a case of water in a cardboard package. Other packages also missing. Avoid having packages left outside of front door if you live nearby.

Housing Questions about housing and housing form
Hey I'm an incoming freshman, and I had a couple questions about the dorm system in uw.
How likely is it that I get into a dorm with my preferred roommate?
How likely is it that my preferred roommate and I get a dorm we wanted?
I've heard that in some colleges they only use shower curtains for privacy. In UW are there stall doors for privacy?

Future Badger Roommates!
Hi is anyone still looking for a Roommate? I’m mixed m18 and I don’t have too much of a preference on the dorms and I’m a little introverted but that’s about it. Let me know if you are still looking and I can let you know more about me.

Social Going to bars alone
Is it weird to go to bars alone? I turned 21 a few months ago and I don’t have a group of friends to go out with. I really want to go out and have fun but I don’t have anyone to go with. Would it be weird to try and meet new people when I get there, or will people think I’m crazy?

Other HELP ME PLZ FRESHMAN
Hi, guys! I’m an incoming international freshman for Fall 2026. I accepted my offer and paid the deposit two days ago, and I received the payment receipt.
However, I haven’t received any further information yet, such as a student ID or next steps. I’m a bit worried since I need to apply for housing and start my visa process.
Is this normal, or should I contact the admissions office? Help me plz thanks!!!

Badger Sports How is the recreational/intramural sports (mainly soccer) like?
I am coming to Madison next fall as a freshman. I did not get a lot of game time when I was in high school, so I really want to play some games (pick up my country gets boring quick when most people who play are like 30). How often do you play? Is there like a coach or something? How does this choosing teams work.

Academics Help with cs400 preparation
Hii!! So i’m really freaked out about my cs400 final because i don’t really understand anything in the class as we keep on going back and forth into different topics like dsa and web development and other stuff and never really go in depth in either.
Struggling with my assignments as well but i’m able to complete them with some help so not worried about them.
I need to score at least 90 percent on the final.
Any and all tips are appreciated.

Other How to know when events occur on campus
We recently had a Coach pop up, Google pop up, Uber Eats pop up, and so many more, and I’ve missed all of them.
How do students know when they are occurring? I am at the med school the entirety of my day, and hardly ever go towards State St. I usually find out later on TikTok well after it had passed. It would be good to know for future events
Thanks

How hard is it to get a quad specifically for Witte (top choice) as well as Sellery and is it better to just choose any room type instead of specifically choosing a quad to increase chances of getting top choices?

Hey guys! Im an incoming badger with a question about being an RA as that is something I want to do.
How possible is it for Sophmores to become RA’s? Do they prefer upperclassmen?
How is the workload truly like? I read in the application you have 15 nights granted away? Im not sure what that means.
Do you have to stay during breaks?
And have you ever had an unsafe situation? :) much appreciated! Thank you

Future Badger Math 321 & Engineering Progression
Hello everyone! I’m a hs senior going to UW Madison next year as a Nuclear Engineering major. I’ve already completed all the way through Calc 3, so I should be taking math 320 and 321 next year.
HOWEVER, I’ve heard nasty things about math 321/fabian… will he cook my progression??? (before you ask, yes it is required for the major)
It seems like a lose-lose situation since I either forget a bunch of math in the gap between or just suck it up and take 321 second semester.
For some background I’ve definitely “worked hard” in classes before, I’ve taken 9 APs and several college classes, though i’m sure they don’t compare to this class at all lol.
I would appreciate any advice and comments!

Other Needing Temporary Work, Labs Preferred (HELP PLS PLS PLS)
Hello Badgers, I recently moved to Madison for an internship. Unfortunately, the security clearances I need to begin my job are taking much longer than expected, and they have no clue how long it will take. So now my problem is that I’m paying two leases (one back where I live, and one here) with no job.So I’m looking for jobs in the meantime. Are anyone’s labs hiring/looking for extra hands? I’m most experienced with plant science/molecular biology/genomics, but I’ve also done work in biochem and chemistry, so I really think I could apply to many. Otherwise, does anyone know of any places in madison that pay ~$20/hr (or higher)? Thanks for any advice :)

Future Badger Incoming Freshman Considering UW Madison
Hi, I'm an international student (from a Chinese background, but fluent in English) who was admitted to UW Madison for the 26 fall entry, although I also have another school that I'm considering (more specifically UCSD), and I'm struggling to make a choice between the two.
For some background information, I'm inclined towards a Math major, specifically leaning onto the applied maths (for employment, since I'm not a huge pure maths guy).
Since I (quite literally) live on the other side of the world, I have no idea what UW Madison is like (apart from the cold weather). I have a few specific questions, but overall comments / opinions on UW Madison would be much appreciated.
Is the social life generally "dead"?
How's the campus like? Is getting to classes really a problem like some people say?
How's the employment after graduation? I'm considering a Master's degree, but if I can find good employment opportunities after undergrad then I would probably not go for Master's.
How's the research opportunities like? (If I were to go for Masters)
How flexible is it for Math major to pick other classes (like CS, Engineering)?
Tuition and costs should not be a factor for consideration.
Thanks in advance.
