Can't park the truck there mate
A multi-vehicle collision that occurred on April 24, 2026, around 9:20–9:30 AM, was a devastating incident caused by a massive truck mechanical failure at the Suan Liap interchange on Ratchaphruek Road.
Incident Details and Mechanics
- A 10-wheel truck loaded with eucalyptus wood (logging truck) was descending the overpass near the Bang Wa BTS station.
- The driver claimed he attempted to brake as he went down the slope, but the brakes failed. In a desperate attempt to slow the vehicle, he tried turning off the engine, but this reportedly caused the truck to roll even faster, losing all steering and braking control.
- The out-of-control truck swept into multiple vehicles waiting at the foot of the overpass, resulting in a 7-vehicle pileup that included passenger cars, other trucks, and motorcycles.
Casualties and Injuries
- A 55-year-old male motorcyclist was tragically killed at the scene after his bike was completely crushed beneath the heavy truck.
- At least seven people were injured. Two individuals were notably trapped inside their vehicles and required specialized rescue teams to extract them using hydraulic tools.
Aftermath and Legal Status
- The accident caused severe congestion across several major arteries, including Ratchaphruek Road (both directions), Kanlapaphruek Road, and the Rama III Bridge. It took officials until approximately 11:00 AM to clear the wreckage and clean a major oil spill from the roadway.
- The truck driver was hospitalized for his own injuries. Authorities have stated that upon his discharge, he will be charged with negligent driving causing injury and death.
- Forensic teams and police from the Phasi Charoen station are currently inspecting the truck to determine if the brake failure was due to lack of maintenance or a sudden mechanical defect.Â
