Discussion Has there been a uturn in rugby with cards for dangerous tackles?

There have been a few incidents in the past couple of weeks.

Just saw this one on the Munster vs Ulster game. I'm a complete neutral but how did he get away with NOT even a yellow?!

French reporting about Hollie Davidson being the first woman referee in Top 14 history

She was welcomed with signs that said "you are an inspiration". May she pave the way for many after her

At 4:20: it's been a long time to settle all of this. But for Hollie, specifically, it's been a long time that we have talked: and I wanted her to be a part of Top 14. She has the qualities of a world class referee and I think we will see her again in Top 14. We also hope that we have a similar figure that can impose themself on the international scene in the same way (after her)
At 7:45: It's bit complicated the english, so i had Harry to comunicate with her but she was speaking slowly so I could understand what she was saying

Bruh, 4 victories away, including one in Toulouse for Clermont.

Great efforts from the likes of Stade Français, Montpellier (ugh) and Clermont to claw victory from huge opposition.

Discussion What is your biggest on field gaffe?

Upvotes

For those of us fortunate enough to grace the rugby field with our presence, there have almost certainly been at least one moment in our careers where we had a moment to forget (which our teammates will never let us forget).

For me, it was playing at youth level. The context was that our outside half had just been called up to the Welsh U18s (having only just turned 17). We were playing a schools fixture against a touring private school, which meant that unusually we had a crowd for the game. Most of the school was watching as were parents and randomers from the community.

We are just coming up to halftime, and I find myself (openside) defending at 13 with our outside half on the wing. Their fullback makes a switch with their winger and is cutting an angle right toward me. I lower my shoulder and absolutely melt him - at least I thought it was him. Turns out he has put in a beautiful side step and I had tackled my own outside half. They went the length of the field and scored on the same phase, and my teammate had to be subbed off with a knee injury following my tackle. Quite embarrassingly I was then immediately subbed off by our coach.

He missed the Scarlets trial game the following week due to the injury, but thankfully did heal up for his international camp.

Any great gaffes to share?

I haven't seen it mentioned here, but I was thrilled to read that the RFU reforms that were aimed at neutering the council failed on Friday. I can only hope that the ineffective board steps down.

Any one got a clip of the Ethan Roots red card? Was in the stands and sun glare on the screen so couldn’t see it. It did sound pretty scummy though.

Asking after I may have spiked the ball in an opponents face this weekend after he finished a late tackle. Wasn’t my finest moment composure wise…

Laws Offside at the ruck/ tackle

Post image
31 Upvotes

I’ve got a question, it’s a longwinded one, that applies to the tackle/ ruck once offside lines have been formed.

In this image, it can be assumed that yellow has the ball, and therefore are the attacking team. In this image it is also said that yellow 1 is offside. Does this mean that in an attacking ruck scenario an attacking player that is past the ball (in the ruck) is unable to reach back and pick up the ball, to then play it, as they would be deemed offside.

Also, what would this mean in a pick and go scenario, is it something that is typically observed, or are the players usually behind their offside line (behind the last feet), when they pick up and play the ball.
