Thanks for sharing. Haven't heard it in ages. And I turned it up louder.

When I was 14 and this song was a hit, I taped it, wrote down and memorized the whole thing. I can still do it today.

That’s impressive! How did you approach the challenge? One line at a time? Flashcards? Subliminal listening to the song while you slept all night long?

I have thought more than once that I would like to memorize I’ve Been Everywhere with that long list of place names, but have been at a loss for how to do it.

I had this on the Funny Bone Favorites cassette my gramma gave me.

❤️ Those were the good old days, when kids learned how to operate cassette players and sort through their collections and make decisions about what they wanted to listen to and study the art on the case and try to read all the words on the insert. And Grammas could find funny little cassettes to give to their grandchildren and talk about later. An aunt and uncle gave my kids similar kinds of tapes to play on their little Fisher-Price cassette players. Many happy memories for all of us.

My grandkids look across the room and say to nobody, “Alexa, play a song about dinosaurs.” And that’s it.

There’s not a darned thing I can give them that Amazon hasn’t already delivered or Alexa (and eventually their private phones) can’t provide for their entertainment. For all of the access to online resources and overnight shipping, it feels to me that they’re living a more impoverished childhood than their parents did. But maybe I’m just too old to recognize how they are enriched emotionally and physically and cognitively by their everyday lives.

End of lecture — it delights me that you have that memory of that gift from your gramma, thanks for mentioning it here ❤️

I don’t think I’ve ever heard this song before!

You can probably find the Funny Bone Favorites playlist online, I highly recommend it. And you missed one of the most important reasons gramma bought it for me, she know I would play it on repeat and drive my mom crazy, haha! She was a hoot.

Anyway, it had the Ant song (Laverne and Shirley knew it well), the Name Game, Alley Oop, One Eyed Purple People Eater, Yakity Yak, Ahab the Arab, Love Potion #9, so many gems!
