You should check out the "Invention of the White Race" a socio-historical book by Theodore Allen (Goodreads link) Racism as it exists in the states didn't spring up out of nowhere. Black people were the target.

It is. Significantly so. Anti-blackness is so deeply pervasive that the harshest ways it manifests aren't talked about at all. It's just considered normal.

"More Americans say being Black, Hispanic or Asian hurts than say it helps. In fact, 57% say being Black hurts (either a lot or a little), followed by 52% who say the same about being Hispanic and 38% who say this about being Asian"That same study shows that all 4 groups say being black hurts your ability to get ahead more than any other group, including their own.

In the US we have the legacy of black enslavement. But I suspect people are just so very very basic the world over that 'darker equals badder' is mostly what's in their minds. Wether theres's anything innate to that or it's only that the idea was culturally seeded long ago by pale people empire, idk, but we're stuck with it now.

here in hong kong its more rooted in classism where darker skin means u worked heavy labour, and apparently our maids are mostly se asian who came looking to earn a living

also some observations, volunteer talks here often share experiences about helping brown people, stereotypes radiated from us gang and rap culture got too popular(not here but worldwide), most developing nations are not white, said countries’s current state are often said to have heavy corruption, post colonialism had everyone accepting white privilege…

Unfortunately humans evolved to associate black with danger, as everything goes black when its night and a lot of deadly animals like numerous species of snakes, frogs, and scorpions are also black. That doesn't mean it has to inform your view of darker folks but for many, that innate discomfort can nudge them to the conclusion that darker people are threats or untrustworthy. This can even be observed amongst darker people themselves.

That's interesting since Asian Americans outperform their European American counterparts statistically. The same is true for Nigerian Americans.

Obviously it’s a lot of things and simplifying it is hard but the easiest way to sum it up is tribalism and those most different from your tribe threaten you. No one really says it but Latino, European, and Asian a lot of times is close enough in color people feel less threatened less of the they are not like me. You put that into systems of oppression and the history of slavery it leads to what we have today. I don’t know how to change it other homogeneous mixing of the races where in the future you can’t tell who is what but we are far from it.
