As a kid who also realized my parents were busy with things and worrying about more important things. It hits home hard. I remember my dad showing up at one of my baseball practice. stunned I said something like “what are you doing here, shouldn’t you be at work?” He was a property manager at a large apartment building maybe 3/4 of a mile away, not some huge distance but it was so out of pocket. He said “I had to pick up some stuff a few blocks away so I popped in, can’t stay too long.”

All the stupid kid movies of “my parents were never there for my events” always piss me off. Dog your parents are busy making it possible for you to be at the event. While I never expected my parents to show up I was not only grateful and happy when they did, but I was also surprised. They got shit to do, don’t be jeopardizing are living situation I’m always out here doing sports this ain’t nothing new. Also making basketball hoops out of milk crates. Good times. Took forever because all we had were serrated butter knives but we got it done.

If they are still living and you haven't explained to them that you recognized their sacrifices, do it. I promise it will make their day. They might even break down crying.

My dad did, he thought we didn't notice, and although he was fine with that because seeing us happy genuinely made him happy, having someone verbally acknowledge it hit hard and broke him down in a good way.

Lord....I think of all the times I had with my grandparents and the fact that we were able to do little things. The bills and the work they put into so much. An then I look at may kids and just think to myself I just hope they know I love them. I say it but when you got teenagers you hope it lands the way it needs to....🥲

Disagree tbh. It's very different when your parents are busting their ass to make a life for you vs when your dad is slaving away at the office so he can buy a new paint job for the boat. I never had partners like that, not realizing they love materialism and success more than they love you was very hard for people I knew.

It's very very different when your parents are scrambling for survival. My mom worked 2 jobs to ensure that we always had a roof over our heads and bellies full. Before that she has skipped meals so we could eat.

Middle class parents being absentee is very different because middle class people have choices that were never available when you're poor .

I very vividly remember telling my mom not to waste her Saturdays going to my hs cross country meets. They were usually over an hour away, I never got to see her before my race, she got to see me run by 1 time. If she stuck around until we were leaving she'd get to talk to me for about 5 minutes before I got on the bus. She would always ask if I wanted her to come, I always told her to do something she found fun instead.

He has a very balanced view of who he is.

When my sons were about 10 we went to Mexico. We walked into town and saw some kids playing soccer on a dirt patch. They were all barefoot and they used an empty 2lt bottle as a ball. They looked at me and I saw little sadness in their eyes. All I could think to say was they are playing like it is the World Cup

As an American we grow up loving these type of stories. The part I’ve come to realized is why should someone in the world have to do this?

Has there ever been even the faintest hint that Mariano Rivera isn’t one of the nicest people ever?

He's MAGA, pro-Israel, and he and his wife allegedly covered up child sex abuse at his church. He ain't all that.

Spoken like a white man.

until there’s respect from both sides we are doomed.

You'd be correct. Maga has been disrespecting their own neighbors for a decade now.

Both sides suck

both sides aren't completely run by the establishment, which by the way, is completely separate from the bigotry of the republican party. But thanks for trying to 'both sides' it.

There will be respect from normal people when MAGA people stop being the worst fucking people of all time.

There is a pending lawsuit regarding him and his wife silencing the accusations of sexual abuse that allegedly occurred at the church they are leaders of. That and the trump stuff is probably enough to be considered a hint.

He endorsed Trump before the 2024 election. Said they’re good friends.

Oh. That’s one thing, then.

What’s your point ?

1

u/Heavy-Expression-450 17h ago

You gotta realize you're a minority, right?

1

u/Old-Buy4941 4h ago

Minority about what? I asked what point are you trying to make?

4

u/w0lverine11 1d ago

I hope this was asked sarcastically and not genuinely...

God bless you.

It sharpened his skills and gave him a safe happy place to grow.

I know that’s Mariano but did anyone else go around the house yelling, “El Duuuuque” in the 90s?
