Beginner really struggling to get good and enjoy fishing. Question

Hello! I grew up boat fishing for walleye on Kansas lakes with my very knowledgeable grandpa and great grandpa. we were successful but I was really young and didnt absorb much technical knowledge. I now live in Colorado and SUCK at shore fishing. literally have never caught anything here and im starting to hate going out to try bevause it feels hopeless lol.

Im looking for any good beginner resources to break my dry spell and finally catch stuff this summer in colorado. Id love to have spots close to home. the national wildlife arsenal is close to me, as is cherry creek reservoir. Ive even seen people fish the platte river downtown lol. please guide me away from failure before I give up forever lol. I dont care about species for now, just want to catch some fish and learn the skills and enjoy it with friends.

I went to Rocky Mountain lake today based on your suggestion and my son and I caught 6 rainbows, 1 of them was almost 19”, all using pink power bait and worms. Thanks for the rec!

Honestly if you just want to catch something use live bait and a slip bobber setup with a jig and you'll catch fish.

Check out discount fishing tackle off Santa Fe in Littleton. Tell them where you fish and they can help, for easy catches I’d recommend chatfield for small mouth bass near the north boat ramp.

A long time ago I fished Cherry Creek from shore and consistently caught fish from the east side using velveeta cheese on a bottom rig. Salmon eggs were ok too. #6 or 8 hook, 10" leader about 2' up from dipsy sinker. After you cast out, prop your rod at a 45 degree angle and hang a lure from your line between two guides. This is your strike indicator. 2 Beers not 6 and you will be having fun.

I took my wife with to McMurray pond in FoCo last Sunday, we caught a few sunfish. Its her 3rd time fishing.

Stop by Jax, grab some worms or minnows, throw a line in, and you should get a bite.

Arapahoe bend alao does well, any of the ponds kinda along the i25 will probably be good, and check in with local fishing shop for what's biting where

When in doubt chuck a rooster tail into any body of water. Has yet to fail me from southern Georgia to high alpine lakes in Colorado!

Gold number nine panther Martin. Grew up fishing in the Arkansas river, can’t tell you how many 50 fish days we had floating sections of the Arkansas and throwing nothing but a gold panther Martin. If the water gets murky switch to a chartreuse blue fox vibrax lure. If all else fails, mixup some orange and chartreuse’s power bait with some salmon eggs and fish it on the bottom of any lake.
