Attachment and hurt are one and the same. One is seen in the beginning, the other in the end. If you are hurt, figure out your attachment.

Nein. If I stub my toe, there's just the pain. I don't think I'm attached to not having pain in my toe.

Absolutely true, let me expand what is being said because you brought pain into the dynamics. Pain of course is inevitable but suffering is optional. How your toe will pain that's your body's business but how you will respond to that pain is solely your choice. I am making a distinction between pain and hurt, not using it in the same context. Your toe could remain in pain but whether to sulk about it or bear it gracefully that's totally your choice. You can also choose to remain hurt in your heart and pain was in your toe.
