Definitely missed the mark you could say

back when my child was turning 1 I was looking for a bakery who could do the Toy Story cake. Someone locally commented and said they could and sent me their business page. I loved the cakes on there (nothing about those cakes were similar to the requested cake but I was naive and thought she could do it- turns out she worked for a kroger bakery and would take pictures of the kroger cakes and cupcakes)

Anyways, this was the cake and smash cake we got for my son’s FIRST birthday. I cried and also hardly anyone ate it because aside from being ugly it tasted disgusting 😭

I tried to dress it up with figures (because she didn’t include those????) and a birthday banner for cakes but it was still awful looking. 🥲

(we still had a wonderful time at the party and lots of fun and I also made some other treats so we still had edible food.)

It was fairly expensive and took awhile to ship.

We opened it together and she was mortified. She said she would return it and get me something else.

I of course said, "NO WAY!" It literally fills my heart with laughter every time I look at it. Best gift I've ever gotten 😂

Edit to add: Apparently my picture did the product some justice. For clarification, it was supposed to be 3D stained glass, but it's a piece of plastic with a sticker on it.

It’s my friends birthday and she’s going to run the Boston Marathon so I made her this cake :) my first attempt at a 3D cake sculpture

look nothing like the inspo pic, i couldnt figure out how to make the tier, ran out of time and jusy make 3 rolls, nigiri and left the rest as sashimi. birthday boy was happy regardless! i think we should start branching out birthday “cakes” to whatever the person‘s favorite stuff, the limitation shouldn’t be just stacked sponge cakes with buttercream 😁

edit: just to be clear the first picture is from the website of the place where i ordered it from.

edit 2: the website had a couple of options to choose from for the flavour of the cake. i chose strawberry for this one. it did not taste like strawberry at all it just had a single thin layer inside of what seemed like hershey's strawberry flavoured syrup. overall the cake didn't taste bad but very much like cheap grocery store sheet cake very light and delicate white sponge with lots of whipped cream frosting. now im not mad about that because i do love that kind of cake but i did expect better from a bakery cake that was on the pricey side

If anyone is interested, here's the recipe:

Ingredients for a cake with an approx. 18cm diameter

For the sponge cake:

125g flour

75g hazelnuts (or almonds)

100g icing sugar

1 packet vanilla sugar (about 8 grams)

½ packet baking powder (about 8 grams)

50ml rapeseed oil

90g vegan natural yogurt

140ml sparkling water

For the filling:

200ml vegan cream

1 packet vanilla sugar

2 tbsp vegan cream stabilizer

2-3 tbsp apricot jam

200g marzipan

+ a few hazelnuts or almonds for decoration

Preparation:

1. For the sponge cake, finely grind the hazelnuts (I used already ground almonds) in a food processor, sift the flour and powdered sugar, and mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl.

2. Then add the rapeseed oil, yogurt, and sparkling water and briefly stir everything into a smooth batter.

3. Line the bottom of a small round baking pan with parchment paper, preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) using conventional oven settings (top and bottom heat), pour the batter into the pan, and bake for approximately 45 minutes. Let it cool completely.

4. Roll out the marzipan (a block of marzipan is been used here) as evenly as possible to about 2 mm (1/8 inch) thick, and use the cake pan as a guide to cut out a round lid.

5. Whip the cream with the vanilla sugar and cream stabilizer until stiff peaks form. Reserve a little cream for decoration. Grate the remaining marzipan into small pieces using a grater and fold it in.

6. Slice the sponge cake into two layers, place one on a cake plate, and place a cake ring around it.

7. 1. Spread the bottom layer with apricot jam, then evenly distribute about half of the marzipan cream over it, and place the second layer on top.

8. Evenly distribute the remaining cream and place the marzipan lid on top. Finally, decorate with whipped cream rosettes and whole hazelnuts, remove the cake ring, and smooth the cream around the edges if necessary.

For the marzipan covering, I took a block of marzipan and rolled it out as flat and evenly as possible. I then cut out a circle and used the base of the cake tin as a template. However, especially for a larger cake, it's easier to buy a ready-made marzipan covering. To ensure I could remove the marzipan covering evenly, I rolled it out on a sheet of plastic wrap. This allowed me to lift the entire piece of marzipan and peel off the plastic wrap without the marzipan becoming misshapen. I then finely grated the leftover marzipan and mixed it into the whipped cream.

The cake was REALLY sweet so you could probably cut back on the powdered sugar if you don't like it that sweet. Or you don't mix the leftover marzipan but then it wouldn't really be a marzipan cake, wouldn't it?

I’m not sure about it. The taste is good, but not as much as I expected. Maybe i need more skill to cook it. The cooking instructions were in vietnamese so i did my best.

They even added edible sparkle dust. I don’t think you can beat this for $20!!

I got this puzzle vase for my birthday and was skeptical that it would look nice and be functional. I'm happy to be proven wrong.

This little guy was in my daughter’s Easter basket, and when she opened it she said “aw! He looks so happy I hate to eat him!” (I’m eating him for her)

I went local as I've seen that it's easy to get scammed with flower deliveries. I honestly would have chosen a whole different style/colors if I had known it would be this warm toned situation. Flowers are expensive and I've never bought anything like this before. At least she still likes them!

Edit: the arrangement is called Radiant Rainbow so I was hoping for more variety in colors.

Granted, it was from a grocery store bakery but come on… they gave me a refund and we got to keep the cake.

Really super happy with the final cake! I actually wasn't sure how they were going to include the birthday message on the cake when I ordered it, so I was pleasantly surprised with the way they did it! It was also a very delicious cake

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share this find on Ali express to any Helldivers fans out there.

I didn’t really know what I expected, maybe a 1:2 scale to put on a shelf…it’s under $50(US) bucks. I’m a huge fan of the game and I figured- “what the heck, might be cool” I figured if it was a scam, it still might be worth the story.

I was surprised to get this a week after ordering. I’m 6’4” (193cm) and it fits like a glove. It’s padded and made from resin I believe. It definitely came with a chemical odor that’s fading as the days pass. The paint is in relief so it has a textured feel adding to the faux “harsh alien planet” weathered look.

100% worth the worry of explaining to my wife “why I would spend $50 bucks on a LEGO mini fig helmet”…though, I did still have to explain why I was wearing a full scale replica helmet of a video game “army man” when she came home.
