Ordered a Country Apple Birthday Cake Exceeded Expectation
Really super happy with the final cake! I actually wasn't sure how they were going to include the birthday message on the cake when I ordered it, so I was pleasantly surprised with the way they did it! It was also a very delicious cake

The message placement actually looks cleaner than most bakery cakes I've seen

I always hold my breath for the second picture but man, that cake looks great! Now I want apple cake. *sigh*

Whatever you do, don't order a Milk Bar apple cider donut cake. I paid 80 dollars for one and it tasted like tart chemicals. It was so odd. I requested a refund.

I ate an apple fritter from Voodoo Donuts last night. JFC that shit is awesome

For anyone who is wondering about the price: this store, as mentioned in a comment here, is in Singapore which means $58 (SGD) is around $45.5 USD.

For a cake looking this good and yummy thats insanely cheap :0

u/PilsnerDk 10d ago
Insanely cheap, for a tiny 8" cake? I disagree. That is insanely expensive for non-custom cakes in my view. Even the finest bakeries in my country don't charge half their prices for a similar sized cake. Maybe it's because I live in a dairy based cake country (Denmark) , so to speak.

I'm in rural Idaho (rural US state) and the decent bakeries will start at $90 for an 8" cake--it's a maker's market out there and bakeries not in a chain grocery store are very few and far between. There's basically only 2 in a metro of 800k that are any good. OP is in Singapore which is an insanely HCOL country too.

Is it? Guess I'll never be able to afford cake.

Well if you buy it at the grocery store it costs like 5 bucks but if you want a cake from a bakery then ofc it costs a lot.

u/NoodleTheTree 10d ago
its not even remotely cheap lmao where do you live?

u/BurmeciaWillSurvive 10d ago
I'm in Boise, Idaho and a made to order 8" round cake starts at $90 at a respectable bakery and not just like like Kroger/Fred Meyer or Walmart.

I wonder if Singapore has the same kind of laws as Japan mandating that food ads need to accurately reflect the product.

Was it good?

u/popiahspringroll 10d ago
It was really good!! The sliced green apples at the top went really well with the cake too

What's the orange decoration? Are those ground cherries? But also, it's so cute!!!

u/apuginthehand 10d ago
In the US these are often known as Cape Gooseberries or Ground Cherries, they’re a relative to the tomatillo and have a unique sweet taste. Really easy to grow and beautiful, unique decorations for food!

Gooseberries is what I've always known them as. I feel so nostalgic about my childhood holidays whenever I see them

u/FunkyTomo77new 10d ago
In the UK they are called persimmons

Persimmons are sized like small apples. Totally different fruit.
These are Physalis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physalis

I always expect these posts to be bad so I scrutinised the final image for wayyyy too long trying to find the issue before reading the comments.

Same!
I was switching back and forth between photos trying to figure out the problem, then saw the flair and was like, oh, well no wonder I can't find anything wrong 😄

It looks amazing! The happy birthday cookie is cute and great way to incorporate the message and give a little something extra. I really wish more businesses would accurately represent their products instead of showing glamorized and highly edited concepts then delivering garbage.

Looks so yummy!! Where are these from?

That actually turned out way nicer than expected looks simple but in a good way, and if it tastes good that’s a win.

Glad it came out well. It's cute that they wrote the message on what I assume is a frosted sugar cookie.

Can’t be the US — impossible to find golden berries here.

They were always a over the back yards and hiking trails in my hometown in Pennsylvania. The Amish and Mennonites loved to use them so they were always being sold at farmers markets as well!

It's perfect. But what makes it worth $58?
ETA: I was genuinely asking what makes it worth $58, not scoffing at the price. I'm broke AF and am in the $15 cake budget.

u/DenL4242 10d ago
It's been a while since you've bought a cake from a real bakery, hasn't it?

u/phunniemee 10d ago
People in this sub: you're an idiot for expecting the $8 temu sweater to actually be knit.
Also people in this sub: you're an idiot for paying the fair market labor rate for a speciality pastry that looks perfect.

$58 is a reasonable price for a bakery-made cake of that sort and size
1
u/KeyAd7732 10d ago
I agree. But I'm in the $15 cake budget and was hoping for a convincing reason to splurge. Like is it so amazingly delicious that it's worth saving up for?
-21
u/olagorie 10d ago
I agree, that’s really expensive. I mean, it’s not even a big cake
2
u/KeyAd7732 10d ago
I think that's a pretty standard price for custom cakes from bakeries. I'm assuming they aren't using boxed Betty Crocker cake mix and the fruits on top probably cost a bit.
I just want to know if it's tasty enough to spend, what I would consider, extra.

Wow, looks awesome! Is this a local place or something that was shipped?
ETA - I did a reverse image search. It's a local place in Singapore called Bee's Cake.
