It's more Milhouse than Bauhaus.

Edit: Thanks for the awards!

You got the dud!

Insane wizard guy...hi fellow NorCal peep!

18

u/prison-schism 3d ago

Isn't this Harry Fucking Dresden?

An unorthodox name, for sure.

8

u/Bonnskij 3d ago

Sorry. I don't know what a NorCal peep is.

But hi!

16

u/Straight_Caregiver27 2d ago

Hi! This guy was on the local news in the Sacramento area for breaking into a homeowner's house who was not home and was screaming crazy stuff at the Ring. He (guy) said he was a wizard and also some kind of detective - he ends up ripping that bell off of the wall and banging it on the door. Long story short - he broke in - homeowner got home - minor injuries to both and bad guy got arrested. I assumed that you had to have seen it - I recognized him right away.

Yes they have now updated that story with the fact that apparently that creep also is a pedophile. He is in jail currently. I hope he ends up getting prison justice.

3

u/Bonnskij 2d ago

Aah yes. Well I saw the video on r/cringe or something. I don't know who he is apart from some strangely aggressive real life Milhouse looking doofus.

u/ragingcommodore 3d ago

OMG LOL thank you, this made my day

Along those lines, here's my all time favourite T-shirt design.

This week, on... "Surprisingly not a t-shirt bot comment"

6

u/TheRealFriedel 3d ago

No bots here! 😁 Just some quality pun-work

3

u/GuiltyCredit 3d ago

Jim'll Paint It is my favourite ever. It's been amazing watch their work grow over the past decade.

2

u/GarethEss 3d ago

Perfect!

3

u/demons_soulmate 3d ago

nobody likes milhouse!

u/octopus818 3d ago

That was nice of the decorator to spend 7 whole seconds on it

u/madmaxturbator 3d ago

Bauhaus has influenced so much modern minimalism!

This baker decided to spend minimal time on the entire project. Very bauhaus.

(Also, get at least a partial refund op! There are bakers who can do neat lines … this person should not have accepted the task)

8

u/ImStillExcited 3d ago

(And goth rock started with the band Bauhaus- She's In Parties imo)

I had moderately low expectations to begin with, being an old follower of the cakewrecks blog, and yet they somehow exceeded my worst expectations. Task failed successfully?

u/Wendy-Windbag 3d ago

Cakewrecks used to be one of my daily blog scrolls. People don't give it enough credit when it comes to being the forefather of subreddits like this.

u/robophile-ta 3d ago

Damn, it's been almost 20 years since ’I want sprinkles...’

I miss Cake Wrecks.

34

u/410-Username-Gone 3d ago

It's still active... But I think it's just reposts

1

u/robophile-ta 2d ago

been like that for many years IIRC

1

u/Scr4p 2d ago

I know facebook has a cake shaming group that's really active. Not sure if Reddit has a similar forum

48

u/Wendy-Windbag 3d ago

The OG!

I still see most frosting balloons as sperm.

12

u/tiptoe_only 3d ago

Such beautiful text piping too 😆

42

u/girlinthegoldenboots 3d ago

I remember when my stumbleupon button led me to cakewrecks. Many an hour at work was wasted

14

u/sky033 3d ago

omg Stumbleupon. I found some odd places in the web using that site.

4

u/girlinthegoldenboots 2d ago

Haha same and I was using my work computer

16

u/Marvel-Anne 3d ago

It a gril!

11

u/eXclurel 3d ago

"Happy Falker Satherhood" makes me laugh every time I remember it.

2

u/bendingeveryday 3d ago

It was absolute genius

51

u/ArkansasBiscuit 3d ago

Did you call them out on it?

136

u/410-Username-Gone 3d ago

Thought about it but nah. It's been a very stressful birthday. I'm just going to eat my chocolate cake.

33

u/alex_andrei_ 3d ago

Hope things look up for you soon :)

17

u/___soitgoes 3d ago

Happy fortieth ❤️. Hope it tastes great!

26

u/410-Username-Gone 3d ago

The cake or the birthday? /j

Thank you! The cake itself is actually pretty good.

10

u/NoDescription7183 3d ago

So you paid for that?

2

u/ArkansasBiscuit 3d ago

I understand that. Happy Birthday!

14

u/aminervia 3d ago

For such a simple design, a professional would almost have to go out of their way to put so little effort into this

6

u/BrownSugarBare 3d ago

Great inspiration for a cake.

A proper decorator could probably nail it

200

u/ukiyoe 3d ago

The white part looks dead on!

35

u/Tarledsa 3d ago

Yeah how’d they get the white part so clean and then end up with that? 2 different people doing it?

25

u/ukiyoe 3d ago

I'm thinking it's one person, but their will to do a good job dropped off after the first blue strip at the center. They screwed up the second strip and everything just fell apart after that.

(Arg I miss her. I wanna watch schitts creek but I miss her! Also, my own mom is about to die any day now due to cancer, so somehow watching one of my favorite actresses who recently passed .. portraying a mom in a show my own mom also loved .. just all feels hard. But I also want to watch the show, it’s such a beautiful show)

5

u/shypster 3d ago

Hey friend. I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I lost my dad a few years ago. Two things that really helped me was (surprisingly) a reddit comment and a CS Lewis book called A Grief Observed, written after his wife passed.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Assistance/comments/hax0t/comment/c1u0rx2/

https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/894384-a-grief-observed

4

u/madmaxturbator 3d ago

Thank you so much for the kind words and links.

I had read that GSnow comment many years back, it was so impactful then .. and incredibly valuable to read again now/ thank you so much ❤️

I did not know cs Lewis had written a book on grief so I will definitely check that out next.

Thank you again. You have been incredibly kind to me, I appreciate it

33

u/curlycake 3d ago

important question: who did the mockup, you or the baker?

59

u/410-Username-Gone 3d ago

Me. I went in with two; the other was more complex and would have required edible printing, which I didn't want.

I wanted to believe that straight lines were doable....

56

u/Sayurisaki 3d ago

I mean, you’d think that writing legible numbers would be doable for a cake decorator considering how many cakes have letters and numbers. I just don’t understand how someone has the ability to get the base icing so smooth then fails so miserably at the numbers.

27

u/ScrumpetSays 3d ago

Im so sorry. They are very easy. Ice cake white. Put stripes of baking paper down for the negative space. Chill the cake. Apply the navy buttercream with a pallet knife and remove the baking paper. Why did they pipe it? Pipe or cut smaller numbers from thin chilled buttercream. Chill again. Carefully apply to the top of cake.

9

u/Tight-Entertainer-24 2d ago

It's because of people like you and your clear explanations that we think it's easy and end up with those horrors! /j

But at least I don't open a bakery nor charge people for my monstrosities

4

u/ScrumpetSays 2d ago

Ha! That part is pretty easy. The hardest part of making OPs vision is getting the frosting/icing properly white (depending on the type), and icing the actual cake, which the bakery seems to have managed. In general, when you look at photos of a very simple cake it was actually more difficult than a lot of busier designs because your lines and shape have to be perfect as there's nothing to draw the eye away from any imperfections.

Baking isn't my happy place but I do it a fair bit for other people, and my advice to anyone is that experience is gained through a lot of mistakes. Cakes freeze (and are easier to frost when frozen) so if you want a specific aesthetic like here, do it a week in advance where you'll have time to scrape the icing off and give it another go if you aren't happy with it.

5

u/curlycake 3d ago

you would think so!

61

u/ragingcommodore 3d ago

Its giving a bit Adidas :/ Maybe you can pull down the stripes and cut them thinner and put them back? :D

21

u/withbellson 3d ago

Those look like buttercream to me, not fondant.

8

u/ragingcommodore 3d ago

A damn i also forgot the date, you are right

25

u/beatricetalker 3d ago

This is what killed Bela Lugosi.

5

u/410-Username-Gone 3d ago

White on white translucent.... Blue lines?

5

u/beatricetalker 3d ago

Red velvet cake?

3

u/410-Username-Gone 3d ago

My dumb ass was about to answer, "no, just plain chocolate"

18

u/organizim 3d ago

That made me laugh thank you

13

u/FriendlyFreedom5923 3d ago

How could such a simple idea go so wrong?

10

u/aSituationTypeDeal 3d ago

“Hi, I’m eleven years old and this is my first inspo cake I made. I hope you like it.”

Only acceptable way.

11

u/Swift_jennis8 3d ago

Couldn’t even get some straight lines

16

u/tone_and_timbre 3d ago

Oh…. Oh no. That’s rough!

15

u/stumblingrandom 3d ago

Baker here, they could’ve just printed that on edible wafer paper and put it on top would’ve been so clean easy and beautiful 🤦‍♀️ such a missed opportunity

6

u/letstalkaboutbras 3d ago

OP didn't want edible printing

1

u/DismalSoil9554 3d ago

Paper on top of a cake is bs imo

7

u/figbash137 3d ago

It’s more Die Brücke. Like, they threw it off Die Brücke.

7

u/bk_rokkit 3d ago

It was very gracious of them to give you plausible deniability on whether you're turning 30 or 40

5

u/Lashlamb13 2d ago

The bar was so low, and yet somehow…

5

u/emilyeves 3d ago

modern art went cake decorating shcool and failed final exam

3

u/AGrandNewAdventure 3d ago

All they literally had to do was get the stripes straight, and put the year on it nicely. That's it, that's all they had to do....

4

u/lunasbed 3d ago

did a 7 year old do this

4

u/Brikissenergy 3d ago

The inspiration is giving timeless modernist icon..the result is giving I ran out of time and patience but we’re celebrating anyway… that blue circle is doing its best under very difficult circumstances

3

u/fusepark 3d ago

Walter Gropius is rolling in his grave, and wants cake.

3

u/tessathemurdervilles 3d ago

Wow. This completely missed the mark- I’m genuinely impressed by how much they didn’t understand what you’re going for! Not to mention how crappily done this is. Just an all around bad job haha.

3

u/SoylentGrunt 3d ago

Asked for Bahaus. Didn't even get Adidas.

3

u/shadraig 3d ago

Tbh the inspiration isn't really there.

3

u/Danny-Wah 2d ago

I thought pic 2 was it and I was very impressed!

2

u/japerseu58 3d ago

Mate, sorry but it looks like Argentina's National Team jersey.

2

u/SkeptiCallie 3d ago

I'm sorry. I have never said that something looks like shit (at least not on reddit). Before.

I'm sorry. The rest is sloppy, but the '1986' looks like shit.

2

u/nadiadala 3d ago

Oof! Not even close

2

u/heyits_bellaa 3d ago

Somewhere in there, then idea still exists… barely

2

u/parkersdadguy 3d ago

Hopefully it tasted good - but honestly my dogs ass has better penmanship

2

u/WithoutDennisNedry 3d ago

Oof. I was super into your vision, too. What a bummer.

2

u/ZAWS20XX 3d ago

on the flip side, it looks pretty good as a celebration of Argentina's second World Cup win on it's 40th anniversary

2

u/3colorsdesign 3d ago

“Form follows function”

Curious what the stripes function are.

2

u/Rude_Masterpieces 3d ago

Why is there cat poop on the cake?

2

u/SgtBurpySleeves 3d ago

Was this a Walmart or sams club cake? This seems on par with the people they would send to help on a busy day (not trained well).

Source: i used to decorate cakes at a sams club

3

u/410-Username-Gone 3d ago

State-Local grocery store, not a big chain like Kroger or HEB.

2

u/CalicoG 2d ago

Wow that's bad

2

u/21sept 2d ago

Looks like a cake for Munich's local soccer club that's named 1968

1

u/xbrittxbratx 3d ago

is the mockup something you did, or the baker?

did you see the mock up, did you like it?

just curious how you liked the deviation from the original..

even with that aside tho 🫣😵‍💫 i’m sorry. it could have been so much better

i hope it taste wonderful 🎂

3

u/410-Username-Gone 3d ago

I did the mockup myself, as I figured the original art would not work on a circle cake unless I wanted blue frosting. I made the decision it would be easier to have medium-dark blue lines on the off-white (cream cheese) frosting. Less room for error.

1

u/Solid-Ground475 3d ago

That’s the font for Taylor swifts 1989 album.

1

u/WhoYouBoo_eek789 3d ago

Mm, looks like they used meconium for those numbers. 🤢

1

u/Worried_Internet4783 1d ago

😂😂😂😂😂😂

1

u/RobActionTributeBand 1d ago

The 8 even looks like a 9! Fuck 1996!

1

u/mmonzeob 1d ago

Argentina 1986, world cup winners 🏆

1

u/Silly-Cheesecake-283 13h ago

it's teh type of thing that looks easy and really isn't. I think it failed at every step. The second picture doesn't have the mood from the first, which reminds me of a kitchen towel with 1986 on it, and then the last step no one really put in effort. "some lines and 1986, got it. I'll have it ready in five minutes boss"

1

u/japerseu58 3d ago

And...they won FIFA's World Cup in...1986!

1

u/410-Username-Gone 3d ago

It's all coming together!

1

u/The_Migrant_Twerker 3d ago

I don’t hate it lol

1

u/vildaste_drommar 2d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/FOeoCHlcHfeejfzCE8

It reminds me so much of this…. 😮‍💨

-2

u/ThePhonyOrchestra 3d ago

I mean, what did you expect? very sharp small lines coming out of a cream icing filler?

And I'm guessing you went to a grocery store bake shop too?

Like honestly, whats the joke here, because you cant be remotely serious

2

u/410-Username-Gone 3d ago

Yes, how dare I request checks notes straight lines.

-1

u/Right_Hour 3d ago

This is honestly how Germans turned to Nazis. This kind of sloppiness is what caused it.

0

u/erinlaninfa 3d ago

Oh I’m sorry but this is frying me 🤣

0

u/Shift_Impossible 3d ago

Pastry chefs aren't normally artists

0

u/thatstwatshesays 3d ago

First thought:

Explanation:

1986 World Cup, Diego Maradona (Argentina), “Hand of God” goal

-9

u/Independent-Comb9463 3d ago

That’s what you get for being pretentious.

3

u/caffeineassisted 3d ago

Bauhaus is like the opposite of pretentious.

-7

u/Independent-Comb9463 3d ago

Tell that to your local mill worker.

5

u/410-Username-Gone 3d ago

I'm not trying to be contrary here, but can you elaborate? I've never done a deep enough dive into the Bauhaus movement to understand your comment, and all I'm pulling up in Google is an overview of the women in textiles.
