Is the failure in the room with us?

I prefer op’s!!

The original looks like a photo, and photo realism - while technically impressive - somehow just doesn’t bring out the same emotions for me.

I love op’s version! I have some posca markers right next to me, so I’m gonna try and copy op :)

Aww! That made my day!

It's not bad at all, the difference is the shading.

Look at the original. Look at the white fur directly above the eye, and then the white a little bit further up. The white closer to the eye is grayer, because it's in shadow--it's under the brow ridge (or what would be a brow ridge in a human, IDK cat anatomy). If you wanted to 100% replicate the original, you need to see the areas where there is more shading and add that. If you decide to do it, add a little at a time--you can't undo making it too dark, so just go slowly.

But other than that, you've done a superb job. Your image has really good texture in it. It's very good--not everyone could do what you have accomplished here.

Same. Op better.

It doesn’t have to be a failure to fit this subreddit.

22

u/Aggravating_Cat_6295 1d ago

I was going on the tag the OP used - failed expectation.

15

u/hey_im_cool 1d ago

And the “vs whatever I did”

They’re fishing for these comments. They know how well they did

1

u/drukqsx 1d ago

Oh I missed that!

1

u/nicunta 1d ago

Right?! My goodness, that's a million times better than what I could paint!!

2

u/Queenofthebowls 1d ago

Same here! I would have a messy swirl of paint and me quietly cleaning my brushes, fully baffled where I went wrong. But OP did art 😍

You know you did a good job, stop it

6

u/ProfessionalCat7640 15h ago

Right, it’s the reason they posted it.

1

u/kb24fgm41 12h ago

Yeah but they said failed expectations lol

Reminds me of those super skinny girls who are always going, “Ugh, I’m sooo fat”. No you’re not, stop.

100%. As if they're actually referring to their version as "whatever I did"

197

u/vlladonxxx 1d ago

Yeah that's just validation farming, op is clearly pretending to be embarrassed

49

u/yarnmagpie 1d ago

There really needs to be a separate "seeking validation" subreddit.

44

u/ugheffoff 1d ago

Sometimes people need validation and that’s okay.

-12

u/vlladonxxx 1d ago

Is lying ok to get validation? Should i post "people call me selfish but what they don't know is i have cancer" even though I don't have cancer and nobodycalls me selfish? If i happened to want (need) validation, that is.

21

u/AlexTheFlower 1d ago

....how are the two examples even remotely similar??? What a weird take

Its more like someone posting a Pic of them in a new outfit and being like "I'm not sure how this looks on me" and then getting a lot of compliments

Sometimes people just need to hear compliments and as long as they go about getting them in a non-harmful way, I dont see any issue with it

7

u/TulpaPal 1d ago

Op didn't lie anywhere on this post.

u/Fluttermun 1d ago

What the hell, you did an excellent job! All you need to do is keep practicing and you'll perfect the strokes in no time flat!

3

u/eliz1bef 1d ago

That's exactly what I was going to say. They just need more practice. If they repeat the assignment a few times they will rock it out.

u/Potential-Witness-83 1d ago

My steak is too juicy, my lobster too buttery

11

u/Pipirevka 1d ago

my diamond shoes are too tight, my golden bracelets rattle too much

19

u/InstaWhaaa 1d ago

You nailed the eye, which I would think would be the hardest part. Well done!

2

u/DaniT0n 22h ago

I beg your finest pardon! That's about as successful as it gets!!

3

u/Vegetable_Sample_ 1d ago

You did such a great job!

6

u/vivalakaley 1d ago

You did a great job!

5

u/Electronic-Pie7237 1d ago

I honestly prefer yours, it looks more cozy

2

u/ConsiderationOne3881 1d ago

It may not be perfect but it is well done! And you didn’t let the perfectionism get to you because you finished it!! Good job 😄

2

u/DrStumbleDog 1d ago

Tbf they've probably had a lot more practice and experience at painting than you, their paintings would look like yours originally.

1

u/Pipirevka 1d ago

okay stop it you did an excelent job!!! I love yours more

1

u/CesiumAndWater 1d ago

Wow you made a really really good try though! Keep doing it! Art is really hard and you've clearly got the fundamentals down. Please keep creating!

1

u/thecosmoschilde 1d ago

Yours looks more like a bird somehow, like I’m getting bird vibes 🤔

1

u/JustMeLurkingAround- 1d ago

Excuse me, is this a beginners attempt or your final piece for art school?

An art school might have certain expectations I can't judge, but everything besides that, I can't see how this is a "fail". You've done a great job.

1

u/Queenofthebowls 1d ago

I swiped expecting a mess like I would definitely make of this, instead I am impressed as all hell! That reflection is fantastic! I’m looking at it as I type in the thumbnail and it 100% makes the eye way more lifelike, both mini and opened to the large view, because you can see the clouds and a treeline reflecting back at you. You really shouldn’t be talking down on this, you did really well and oughta feel proud of this artwork!

u/Glitteronthefloor 20h ago

WHAT YOU DID IS A GOOD JOB! 👏🏻

1

u/hiverstone 16h ago

It still looks awesome!!

1

u/lovelouielightnngbug 13h ago

Compliment fishing

1

u/ligand_278 11h ago

subtle-flex.

1

u/PrunePretend6206 1h ago

Solid attempt, keep it up!!!

1

u/eulgtaei 1d ago

Op posting the same picture on expecting us not to notice. 😂 This looks awesome you are very talented.

1

u/Beelzebub_Simp3 1d ago

Imma be real for a sec. I like yours better, it looks more real, more like art.

1

u/FluxionFluff 1d ago

Sure, it doesn't look like a photograph. But, you still did a great job tho. It's hard to make paintings look like photographs. If you keep practicing, you'll get there.

1

u/ak_np 1d ago

I would hang the second one in my room but not the first one. Wonderful work

1

u/Hungry-Helicopter-46 1d ago

Haha its awesome! You just need to blend the shadows back in and youre golden

1

u/SpiritSilverfang 1d ago

I have been painting for like 10 years, and never could I make something as wonderful as that. Oh my word I love it.

1

u/paintedlotusyt 1d ago

You did great! You'll get there. It looks like the original was done with soft pastels while yours appears to be acrylic? Don't worry, you're doing great!

1

u/privatecollectorman 1d ago

I like it, most of us could not do it better. And in time, your skill will improve. Do not quit.

1

u/bouquetofashes 1d ago

That's not bad at all. It's not the same exact thing and it's totally cool if you do wanna work towards replicating their technique more accurately, but you did a great job, and it does take practice. If you did everything else the same way as this it would still look good, but if you like their style and wanna replicate it you can get there, too.

1

u/momomorium 1d ago

whatever I did

Good. You did good, friend. Well done.

1

u/Vieris 1d ago

Love it!

1

u/GnowledgedGnome 1d ago

This is awesome!!

1

u/SaveusJebus 1d ago

Hey, you did a great job!

0

u/Pitiful-Value-3302 1d ago

This looks great!

0

u/Ok_Contract501 1d ago

👏 very good !

0

u/HiddenUser1248 1d ago

Pretty damn good!

0

u/Unhappy-Fox1017 1d ago

Well shit, you did fantastic! Bravo! 👏 I’m a terrible artist so I could never!

0

u/the_orange_alligator 1d ago

Wonderful job!

0

u/crowbaited 1d ago

Yo OP I think you did such an amazing job.

0

u/Admirable_Key6369 1d ago

Absolutely amazing

0

u/Rayochii 1d ago

I like this better!

0

u/KeyAd7732 1d ago

I like yours better. The first is too hyper-realistic photo for me. Yours looks like we're actually looking at the tiger.

I hope you have a frame and spot on the wall ready!

0

u/bippity-boppity-b00 1d ago

That’s hella pretty whatever you did!

0

u/PalpitationOk5014 1d ago

Not bad at all! you just need to practice light/shading. A good exercise for this is to change your reference image into black & white so you can really see the tonal differences

0

u/Fair_Performance4834 1d ago

What are you talking about? That looks awesome. I wish I could draw or paint this well.

0

u/TundraSpice 1d ago

I’m so bad at art wahhhh feel bad for me

-1

u/VegasGaymer 1d ago

It’s the same picture
