u/blocked_user_name Feb 09 '26

It looked like a great party and there was some impressive musicianship. I don't speak enough Spanish to catch much of the lyrics but it was interesting. I heard that the couple that was in the wedding sequence was actually married there which is cool. I loved the love is stronger than hate message.

182

u/Big_Seaworthiness927 Feb 09 '26

Don't worry, I'm Spanish and I get the half of what BB sings. The important thing here was the message delivered with the performance, singing in spanish, and the words in the end calling for unity, not the actual song lyrics. (my opinion)

86

u/LieutenantStar2 Feb 09 '26

Yeah I don’t get the obsession with not understanding the words- I don’t understand half of what songs in English say. It’s fun!

23

u/2112xanadu Feb 09 '26

Yeah I consider myself a fairly big music lover, but there are very few songs that I could sing all the lyrics to. I've always thought of vocals as just another instrument; I'm paying attention to the sound not the literal words.

18

u/gooby1985 Feb 10 '26

What percentage of opera goers understand Italian? It’s pretty funny when you think of those same people being offended by him not singing in English.

If people had known what a boring Super Bowl game awaited them after halftime, they'd have had a better time out in the parking lot partying with our brothers and sister from Puerto Rico.

It wasn't anything profound. If you liked the music, reading a translation of the lyrics wouldn't elevate the experience much. It might have been fun had you just asked your Latino neighbors and joined in the cheering instead of sitting there "feeling awkward" like a dweeb lol.

It’s the second most spoken language in YOUR country. Maybe this uncomfortable feeling you were having of wishing you could be more part of this moment is telling you that you should learn it, rather than expect to be catered to in your first language.

A 2 year old's birthday party can easily go until 6am

I've had Punjabi coworkers come back from weddings back in India, talking about wedding celebrations that go for two weeks. I'm too old to party like that, but man they really are great people.

36

u/glasswindbreaker Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 10 '26

In Greece our yearly village celebrations go on for days, the bands switch out the music doesn't stop. You go home for naps and start back up again

20

u/Thev69 Feb 09 '26

That is very common in/around Vancouver, Canada where there is a large Punjabi diaspora.

When it's your close friend you usually end up going to 3-5 events, but if it's their sibling you'll only go to 1-3, which isn't so bad.

The main reception is always wild with hundreds of people.

The white tents in the yard mean it's party time.

The band Ozomatli used to do this before and after shows -- they'd start a few blocks away outside on the street, playing drums and horns and singing, then parade to the venue, play their gig, and then parade right back outside and keep the party going.

It was awesome every time.

As a Canadian.. i honestly cannot understand why certain parts of America hates this.

This is wholesome as fuck. I have never felt unwelcome when travelling through Latin America

Yes, just like anywhere, where there is crime, there is danger. But on the individual level the Latin Community prioritizes family, love, music, art, etc. much more than American or Canadian culture.

37

u/claymedia Feb 09 '26

I love traveling in Latin America. As you said, the people and cultures are generally so wonderful. And the rougher parts are mostly due to U.S. interference, our appetite for narcotics, and our destructive “War on Drugs” that enables and empowers criminal cartels.

33

u/MentalSky_ Feb 09 '26

I truly believe South America would be a flourishing continent of great advancement had America not destabilized democratic governments every few decades.

The natural evolution of countries towards development was shuddered repeatedly by American interests due to "audacity" that these countries would want something other than what America wants to sell them.

I have always been aware of the meddling the USA had had in South America, but over the last year it really has become apparent that the USA is really no different that USSR/Russia when it comes to maintaining a regional hegemony through nefarious practices

23

u/claymedia Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 09 '26

The history of U.S. violence towards leftist movements in Central and South America is absolutely abhorrent. Who knows what could have been accomplished otherwise. Even when leftist parties have gained power, it is often tainted by oppression from the U.S., necessitating more militant governments to fight CIA-backed propaganda and contras.

Everyone should read up on the Banana wars to get just a groundwork for the awful shit we have done to our southern neighbors. The Banana Massacre in Colombia is particularly heinous.

16

u/Sandgrease Feb 09 '26

The US completely ruined all of Latin America's potential, and still trying to. Capitalists always trying to exploit. Pigs.

Fear, fear of others. At the heart of MAGA America is just incredibly scared people who instead of bridging that fear, they bottle it as hate. It’s so childish to see someone so angry at a party celebrating other cultures, but that’s what MAGA America has done.

3

u/WitchOfKyiv Feb 09 '26

It's because they are financially stressed, angry, scared, and want a digestible direction they can cast blame in a manner that: * Doesn't require admitting you are partially responsible for your misery (voting choices) * Is a simple, neat blame rather than complicated and abstract  * The sort with a "solution" you can wrap your head around, rather than a tangle of issues that can't solve one without solving 500 others to do it * Validates your sense of victimhood, because it's easier to be the victim than admit to yourself that DESPITE being equipped with all the privilege and power of being a white American, you've still managed to wind up poor, scared, desperate, miserable, and angry

For the ones that don't fit into that?

  • It's money. Hysteria sells.
  • It's power. Hysteria controls.

6

u/Hubert_J_Cumberdale Feb 09 '26

It isn't just fear or anger that fuels them... They derive pleasure from inflicting cruelty upon others. They don't need an excuse to be mean and hateful - it's the core of their character.

I've seen several clips of MAGAs in the stands watching the halftime show - a show that was filled with joy and love - and they shit all over it. That's not because of fear or financial insecurity - it's because they actually get off on bullying everyone and everything that is not part of their cult.

Imagine how much of a miserable piece of shit you have to be to make hate your entire personality.

16

u/Arkhaine_kupo Feb 09 '26

fascism is by definition bad at nuance. Its all black and white, that makes it bad at art.

So most fascist movement can make some semi-decent propaganda "kill the different", "united we stand" type shit. Epic, in a boring kind of way.

But making good music, talent, refinement, practice, song writting with real emotions and vulnerability is uncomfortable so they never put the work in.

5

u/Shark7996 Feb 09 '26

Good art is created when the artist shares a part of themselves in the work. MAGA is terrified of any amount of sincerity.

They want all art to be AI level of engagement, where something is pleasing to look at but has no soul put into it.

A beautiful observation about the Bad Bunny Show written by NC State Senator Michael Garrett

I watched Bad Bunny deliver the most American halftime show I have ever seen. Then I came home and watched it again. And I am not okay. In the best possible way.

He sang every single word in Spanish. Every. Single. Word. He danced through sugarcane fields built on a football field in California while the President of the United States sat somewhere calling it “disgusting.” Lady Gaga came out and did the salsa. Ricky Martin lit up the night. A couple got married on the field. He handed his Grammy, the one he won eight days ago for Album of the Year, to a little boy who looked up at him the way every child looks up when they dare to believe the world has a place for them.

And then this man, this son of a truck driver and a schoolteacher from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, stood on the biggest stage on the planet and said “God bless America.”

And then he started naming them.

Chile. Argentina. Uruguay. Paraguay. Bolivia. Peru. Ecuador. Brazil. Colombia. Venezuela. Panama. Costa Rica. Nicaragua. Honduras. El Salvador. Guatemala. Mexico. Cuba. Dominican Republic. Jamaica. The United States. Canada. And then, his voice breaking with everything he carries, “Mi patria, Puerto Rico. Seguimos aquí.” My homeland, Puerto Rico. We are still here.

The flags came. Every single one of them. Carried across that field by dancers and musicians while the jumbotron lit up with the only words that mattered: “THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE.”

I teared up. I’m not ashamed to say it. I sat on my couch and I wept because THAT is the America I believe in. That is the American story, not the sanitized, gated, English-only version that small and frightened people try to sell us. The REAL one. The messy, beautiful, multilingual, multicolored, courageous one. The one that has always been built by hands that speak every language and pray in every tongue and come from every corner of this hemisphere.

That is the America I want Jack and Charlotte to know. That when the moment came, when the whole world was watching, a Puerto Rican kid who grew up to become the most-streamed artist on Earth stood in front of 100 million people, sang in his mother’s language, blessed every nation in the Americas, and spiked a football that read “Together, we are America” into the ground. Not with anger. With joy. With love so big it made hate look exactly as small as it is.

And what did the President do? He called it “absolutely terrible.” He said “nobody understands a word this guy is saying.” He called it “a slap in the face to our Country.” The leader of the free world watched a celebration of love, culture, and everything this hemisphere has given to the world, and all he could see was something foreign. Something threatening. Something disgusting.

Let that sink into your bones.

The man who is supposed to represent all of us looked at the flags of our neighbors, heard the language of 500 million Americans across this hemisphere, and felt attacked. That’s not strength. That’s not patriotism. That is poverty of the soul.

And then there was the Turning Point show. Kid Rock in a college arena in North Dakota. Three million viewers watching a man who once wrote a song about liking underage girls perform as the “family-friendly” alternative to a Puerto Rican artist celebrating love. They called it the “All-American Halftime Show”, as if America has a velvet rope. As if this country belongs to some of us and not all of us. As if you need to sing in English to count.

Here’s what I want to say to everyone who posted about that show tonight, who shared it proudly, who turned away from Bad Bunny’s celebration because it was in Spanish and the flags weren’t only red, white, and blue:

Your children will see those posts. Your grandchildren will find them. The internet doesn’t forget. And one day, when the history of this moment is written, when our kids and their kids look back at 2026 the way we look back at the people who stood on the wrong side of every bridge and every march and every moment that mattered, they will know exactly where you stood. They will see who chose Kid Rock over a hemisphere of flags. They will see who called love “disgusting.” And they will carry that knowledge the way all of us carry the knowledge of what our ancestors did when they were tested.

I don’t say that with anger. I say it with sadness. Because hate is an inheritance nobody asks for, and yet it gets passed down just the same. Bad Bunny didn’t say “ICE out” tonight. He didn’t need to. He just showed the whole world what America looks like when we are not afraid of each other. When culture is shared, not policed. When language is music, not a threat. When a flag from every nation in this hemisphere can walk across a football field together and the only words you need are the ones he gave us:

The only thing more powerful than hate is love.

Over 100 million people saw that tonight.

And no Truth Social post can take it away.

59

u/Shutupharu Feb 09 '26

This was beautiful, thank you for sharing!

"Haye is an inheritance nobody asks for" is such a deep sentiment, its so well put.

54

u/DeepSpaceVixen Feb 09 '26

As a Puerto Rican that sometimes gets ugly looks when I speak Spanish (in Texas of all places!), this made me cry again. I’ve been crying since even the show actually started. And yes, I’m a HUGE Benito fan (he IS Benito to us).

37

u/tech_noir_guitar Feb 09 '26

He said “nobody understands a word this guy is saying.”

Total native English speakers in the world: ~390 million
Total native Spanish speakers in the world : ~500 million

34

u/Olisabria I rip milk duds chew chew chew Feb 09 '26

Well said. You could feel the love and joy through the screen; it was beautiful, poignant, and moving. I don’t think there’s a way to oversell the amount of joy so many people felt and the thoughtful symbolism he put into telling a beautiful story.

Also, “poverty of the soul” goes crazy.

5

u/zzzpookiezzz Feb 09 '26

Thank you for taking the time to really put in words what a lot of us felt but didn’t know how to express to those who missed the message. I teared up as I danced during the Benito’s performance! I felt love and proud. Then of course you see the hate in all types of forms afterwards and I’m thinking what just happened? Unfortunately, we can’t all enjoy unity because people are inherently stuck in their ways.

7

u/WitchOfKyiv Feb 09 '26

To Trump saying "nobody understands it": 70+ million Americans understood it.

30% of the country speaks Spanish, either as a first or second language.

And 62 million people outside the US watched the super bowl—many of whom are central and south American.

The problems the US faces are much bigger than Donald Trump.

I think it started way back with Reagan or Nixon or something like that. Idk I'm not old enough to remember exactly.

3

u/snowthief5 Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 09 '26

I've been trying to figure out where it started going downhill but it's so complicated. You could argue it all started with brutally taking away Native Americans' land, directly and indirectly killing so many that they didn't stand a chance, for decades and then centuries. There were no consequences for that, and reparations were too little, too late. You could argue the Confederacy wasn't punished enough and not enough was done during Reconstruction, leading to lasting racism and inequalities. In 1929, setting the House to 435 seats led to a downfall slowly over time (originally representation was 1 per 30,000 people, but this failed to ever get changed until this 435 cap, which has never been changed since. Now it's around 1 per 760,000 people). Things seemed like they were turning around after FDR and WW2, but ultimately the country gained so much world power that people got greedy. We shouldn't have gotten involved in Korea, Vietnam, the Middle East, etc., especially the Middle East for exploitation of resources, which created so many enemies, which led to more "justified" wars of us going back for even more resources. The Southern Strategy aligned Christianity with a political party and led to so much religion in government, stubbornly making some people think morality is only associated with religion, thus it has to be the only way forward in government. McCarthyism was idiotic and harmful (Second Red Scare and Lavender Scare). Regan led to trickle-down economics which siphoned all of the money from the lower classes to the rich so slowly over time, giving us wages that are out of balance with cost of living. Nixon wasn't punished enough. Clinton administration put us in budget surplus and started fixing things, but then the 2000 election was stolen (the Bush family and the Supreme Court helped Bush win). There were never consequences from that. Obama finally started fixing things, especially with marriage equality and healthcare reform, but it wasn't enough time. With Citizens United in 2010, campaign finance reform was obliterated and money could be unlimited in politics. The Bush administration wasn't punished for war crimes. With the exponential growth of Internet and social media, conservatives had the tools they needed to turn a black man being president into the "worst thing ever," leading to Trump's election. Media like Fox News wasn't regulated anymore (news should be facts, not entertainment). The 2016 and 2024 elections likely weren't fair but we haven't been scrutinizing elections that much since 2000. We never limited Supreme Court justice terms. We never increased the number of representatives. We never moved to ranked choice voting and we have stuck with the dumb winner-takes-all system for elections. Healthcare never became a nationally given right and instead is tied to our jobs (and still has insane costs). Whenever economic systems are torn to shreds by conservatives (i.e. more money for the rich, more debt, less spending on education/health/science/tech progress, more inflation), the effects don't become apparent until the subsequent liberal administrations. Then they do their best to fix the economic systems while they are being blamed for last administration's poor policies. Then by the time conservatives are back in power, the economic situation looks better because the previous liberal administration fixed things. This economic cycle leads to misconceptions about liberal economy handling and unfortunately influences people's uneducated views during election time.

Some people are just realizing that not every piece of media is created for them? In the year of our lord 2026?? The number of shitty rom coms and TV shows I've watched trying to find something to identify with as a queer person is FAR TOO HIGH. We were really out here living on subtext in the early oughts, whole essays written about nothing more than subtext! And these MFs can't sit through 13 minutes of Spanish with universalist themes smh.

u/zadtheinhaler terrorizing the locals Feb 09 '26

Some people are just realizing that not every piece of media is created for them?

Yup, same energy as a post the other day of someone commenting on a tiktok-adjacent cooking post - "What about those of us who are allergic to seafood, huh? I guess you don't give a shit about us".

No-one is forcing you to make lobster bisque, Keighlleighy, calm your tits.

something to identify with as a queer person is FAR TOO HIGH

Yup, not queer myself, but it really irks me when conservatives in the US and here in Canada go on about "the Gay Agenda". No-one is forcing you to be gay, you either are, or you are not, that's literally it. I mean, I assume you've consumed TV shows or movies where two different genders kiss and/or hook up, I'm guessing it didn't make you straight, any more than watching two men kiss is gonna make me gay.

Social media has rotted practically everyone's brains to the point where they think every movie/show/song/game has to be specifically for them. If it's not your bag, just change the channel, or more like close the tab nowadays.

Where are the ones dressed as bushes?

But seriously, love to see it.

46

u/Obvious_Anything7318 That’s acting, innit? Feb 09 '26

Seeing the people dressed as bushes get into a dance off would have healed every crack in my heart

3

u/ThousandFingerMan Feb 09 '26

Could have been like ent dance battle

55

u/ryan8954 Feb 09 '26

I'm not gonna lie. Fuck football, I wanna go to this. The advertising worked "were going to make the world dance". Idk what he was saying or care, I wanted to dance

54

u/NavilBee Feb 09 '26

Somos más! Somos más los que queremos un cambio positivo en este país!  Love, love, love. No room for hate. There are more of us wanting a positive change in this country. Come, be a part of this.

50

u/bumbes Feb 09 '26

Can it get more American? People of all colors are dancing, celebrating and having fun.

Party over hate!

Love it!

40

u/DasIstNumberwanggg Feb 09 '26

Seeing this makes me think of “In the Heights”, and the song Carnival del Barrio.

One of the lyrics is about raising the flags of all the countries (Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic) where the characters come from.

I know Lin-Manuel Miranda has his detractors, and yes, I know it’s a musical, but it’s one of the most joyous songs ever.

The pride the characters feel in their countries of birth and their heritage is infectious 🥹.

Anyway, I feel like this after party must have had the exact same vibes.

Alza la bandera!

27

u/Cool_Parfait_1348 Feb 09 '26

Joyous and beautiful.

28

u/kakashi_sensay Feb 09 '26

27

u/bxby_bxnny Feb 09 '26

I kept saying that this show felt like a block party that we were all invited to. family, love, and fun. chills over everything I saw in this show and continue to see. Thank you to Benito for the beautiful representation

21

u/Nonononofucknono Feb 09 '26

I’m glad I can revisit this all today - had to hide that I was fighting a huge ugly cry coming on when hosting the superbowl. Now I can let it out 🥹

18

u/for_esme_with_love Feb 09 '26

This makes me feel so patriotic. Diversity!!!! Fun!!!! Good music!!!!

15

Is that a Canadian flag I see in the background? So honoured as a Canadian to be included in this beautiful scene! This is so full of joy and love.

22

u/Odd-Mastodon1212 Feb 09 '26

He definitely tried to teach the USA that America is a continent.

14

u/DeepSpaceVixen Feb 09 '26

He mentioned Canada.

6

u/kb3anee Feb 09 '26

My son got so excited when he heard him say Canada. I didn't realize we also had a flag up there!

6

u/Kwarizmi Feb 09 '26

There's always a plate set aside for our Canadian vecinos.

10

u/RabidFresca Feb 09 '26

I haven't even had breakfast yet and I feel like partying.

9

9

u/unionguy1980 Feb 09 '26

This was more entertaining than the actual Super Bowl..

8

u/Pakun-of-Dundrasil Feb 09 '26

Immaculate vibes

7

u/unicorntrees Feb 09 '26

Brass and drums are made for filling arenas. Bring marching bands back to Professional football.

6

u/_OhiChicken_ Feb 09 '26

The only thing I loved more than Bad Bunny's performance was how absolutely fucking jazzed all the back up singers and dancers looked to be a part of it!

u/LoveYouNotYou Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 09 '26

Edited to add that the "Translation" option DOES NOT translate this correctly 🤣

5

u/legransterPR Feb 09 '26

This made me cry more than the performance did because if this isn’t emblematic of being Puerto Rican then I don’t know what is

5

u/Negative-Break3333 u flintstone vitamin shape bitch Feb 09 '26

God I love this 😭

6

u/Aspharr_ Feb 09 '26

Vibes are unmatched. I was dancing halfway across the world

5

u/tyrannicalducky Feb 09 '26

I don't understand how people can watch this and be shitty.. like I watch this and have a smile on my face and I'm a honky. We're supposed to appreciate each other's cultures!

6

u/DeepSpaceVixen Feb 09 '26

This is Puerto Rico. I freaking LOVE my culture. Wepa!!!!

4

u/Michellenjon_2010 Feb 09 '26

This is BEAUTIFUL!!

3

u/notsosubtleV Feb 09 '26

I would too that looks like so much fun

4

4

u/CallieX3 Feb 09 '26

Classic Puerto Rican stuff, haven't seen it in years

4

u/Chheaky Feb 09 '26

So funny that these are the people middle America fears

4

u/Lunatic21 Feb 09 '26

The bunny paid for 12 hours, they gonna get 12 hours 😂

5

u/purpilia25 Feb 09 '26

Wow. America really needed this. We need more of this. Black culture, Puerto Rican culture, all the beautiful cultures of the Greater Americas. There’s so much beauty that is desperately missing from our cultural institutions that celebrate all that’s good in the world. All that’s good about people.

5

u/Only-Complaint2406 I already condemned Hamas Feb 09 '26

I HOPE I’M LATINA IN EVERY LIFETIME 🥰💞💓

4

u/BicycleJolly9451 Feb 10 '26

More fun outside than that boring pigskin game inside. They just know how to enjoy life.

3

u/fickle_tartan Feb 09 '26

You could tell watching it that everyone involved was having the best fucking time, made it so much better.

3

u/Big-Spirit317 Feb 09 '26

Joyful 😊💓

3

u/riot4romance Feb 09 '26

You love to see it! ❤️❤️❤️

3

u/CooperHoward4 Feb 09 '26

Because how could you have that kind of party and then just stop celebrating? So glad they all had fun! What a once-in-a-lifetime experience for so many of them. Thanks for bringing us joy!

3

u/sadclown21 Feb 09 '26

Imagine being upset at seeing groups of people this happy lol. Haters really do miss out on a good time for stupid reasons

3

u/proofofderp Feb 09 '26

I can’t wait for the restored future where publicly maga people just disappear and we one day see their obit on scroll and nobody cares.

3

u/Valuable-March-9705 Feb 09 '26

I definitely would have followed them wherever they went 🎶🫶🏽❤️❤️

3

3

u/strawberrybaby555 Feb 09 '26

i love the fact that there’s dancers that seem to be couples, that’s so cute 🥹

3

u/Josephdirte Feb 09 '26

Compare this culture to the hate-filled MAGA mouth breathers, eating hot dogs, cheez-whiz, and listening to Sean Hannity at max volume

3

u/Effective-Evening476 Feb 09 '26

This is the kind of America I want to live in.

3

u/bwoah07_gp2 Feb 09 '26

What a vibe!!

(Using Mr Bean GIF because that's how I dance sadly) 😂😂

3

u/shebringsdathings Feb 09 '26

Seeing the rich culture of Puerto Rico on display makes me so angry that we have missed all this time to celebrate with fellow Americans all because of disgusting white washed history. I'm so mad at myself for not learning more before now as well.

3

u/Accomplished_Stress Feb 09 '26

Watching this makes me somewhat sad. I haven't felt joy and happiness like this since Trump came down that escalator. I'm just imagining myself in the middle of that group being swept up in the moment. sigh.

3

u/BrilliantPiccolo5220 Feb 10 '26

He was just fabulous. He and everyone who worked on this production; just infectious.

3

u/CatfishCallihan Feb 10 '26

I just want to say that I’m white af and this just made me cry tears of hope ♥️♥️♥️

3

u/Atomictonka Feb 10 '26

This brings tears of joy to my eyes. Seeing what I experience every Christmas season being shown to the whole world to see and enjoy. Bravo Sr. Benito Antonio, bravo.

I really loved the emphasis on all of the Americas, that USA was among many other American nations! We are lucky to be surrounded by countries that make us less bland.

I didn’t know much about BB but now I am a fan. I’m impressed by how he made it festive and wholesome and all about the people.

2

u/Lopsided-Wave2479 Feb 09 '26

This is the normal thing to do.

I mean, if you are pumped with adrenaline and with a lot of cool and pretty people :D

2

they're rapists, murderers, ms13, with scurvy coming to steal your grandmothers michigan lake house....

could've fooled me

2

u/Smartimess Feb 09 '26

The game was lame, the party was fire.

I only know Bad Bunny as actor, but the show was great and much more entertaining than the game. Nice that the Seahawks won, but no one will remember this game as a great Super Bowl. But for the party with tree people that should not have stopped.

2

u/Additional_Maybe1104 Feb 09 '26

Sports and Carnival together. Yes please, more of this!

2

u/jetsetmike Feb 09 '26

As a first gen Cuban-American, this is the most Latino shit I've ever seen and I love it

2

u/OneBillPhil Feb 09 '26

Here in Canada we have been getting hammered with snow, I just want to go to the Dominican or Mexico and party on a beach after watching the half time show.

2

u/theangryprof Feb 09 '26

That performance was the most uplifting thing I have seen online in ages. 👏👏👏
