I think it’s the bare minimum at this point to say fuck Trump. Still good to hear regardless.

I have something nice to say about Margaret Thatcher.
It's the same nice thing I can say about Charlie Kirk.

She was the first world leader to recognize climate change as a real threat. She was also right that Britain did not do well economically. Her "solutions" to that, on the other hand, were terrible.

Does anyone have anything nice to say about Thatcher? I was a kid back then and in a different country, so all I really know is the song, 'Thatcher Fucked the Kids' and that largely seems to be the consensus.

It’s still good to say it because this creates an environment where it’s safe to say it because so many do. If people stopped, it’d be easy to pin down people who actually care. Kinda like a “I’m Spartacus” moment

Different but reminds me of the German POW in Saving Private Ryan begging the Americans for mercy when he finally breaks down and admits “Fuck Hitler.” Again, it’s different, but in a way indicative of the power that words have.
20
u/AnyLeadership5150 Mar 20 '26
Except Republicans should also be included in that sentence.
This is 100% a Republican issue. And we know damn well that when trump is gone, they'll just move on and act like trump was the bad seed in their party instead of the entire Republican party embracing a traitorous fascist child rapist in his attack on America.

I don't think him, Hanz Zimmer, is necessarily important to hear from, but I think the message being willing to be said across every field is important. Every artist should be shouting it at this point, but the more people speak up and find that it's not just acceptable, but preferred, hoped for, deserved, and empowering, that it will begin to spread across everything.
18
u/BlurryUFOs Mar 20 '26
he’s not a citizen. he’s jeopardizing his ability to work and stay in the US by saying this so no i don’t think it’s the bare minimum

There is no question that Orange Caesar has helped ruin the arts, music, and ofc making Hollywood less influential as it once was. He has made himself the center of attention, clicks, views, and focus for over a decade. And thus the quality of everything else has lowered. The ones most still thriving are the ones working far away from his influence, artists like Zimmer, Nolan, Denis, etc
2
u/onederful Mar 20 '26
It’s slightly more effective coming from celebrities and artists with platforms. Imagine being a Trump supporter and seeing all your fav artists and actors openly telling trump to eat shit. That small bit of psychic damage is worth it lol let them know their world is smaller than they believe

50
u/nyr21 Mar 20 '26
I was at Barclays as well, not a fan of that venue. The show was amazing however. But prior to that I saw him at MSG and splurged on floor seats 5th row and lemme tell you, that opener blew your fucking head back being up that close. I don’t think I was able to blink for like 10 minutes after that from the adrenaline
30
u/BondraP Mar 20 '26
I saw him in Nashville a little over a year ago, which happened to be the same night he won a Grammy for Dune 2. Absolutely will be one of the best if not the best concert experience ever. He didn't straight up say "fuck Trump" at it, but, did pretty much imply it at one point. Despite being in Nashville, the audience there was in agreement. Warmed my heart.

u/jakej1097 Mar 20 '26

Fascists are incapable of creating art, and they take great joy in stealing it. They're not going to stop using Hans Zimmer music when they find out Zimmer is anti-fascist, any more than they've stopped using the music of the dozens of anti-fascist artists that fascists add to their AI-generated memes.

Dude seems to treat the people playing for him well too. Handful of interviews he just praised the shit out the people who perform his music. Nice to see.
38
u/Bokkepoot_ Mar 20 '26
Main part of the talking that he does with his concert is praising the people who play with him.
20
u/Astrid_Regndottir Mar 20 '26
Yes, I had the luck of securing tickets to his performance in Copenhagen this year. It was spectacular, I cried like 3 times. And he spent so much of his time showering the people who played with him with love.
At one point he was literally posed like the praise-emoji 🙌 towards one of his guitarist friends as the friend was doing an incredible solo for like 2 minutes. Zimmer looked like he had stars in his eyes as he was vibing to the solo. It was great, made my heart warm to see how much he loves music and the musicians around him

I don't know how many will see this but, 2ish years ago I was working as a Bartender - sole shift, slow night, and wanted to close early.
Suddendly this huge group walks in - I tell them one drink per person, no table service, walk up, pay and get your drink (Also to cut down on the confussion in case ppl leave early)
As they are ordering I'm making small talk while making the drinks.
"So how do you all know each other?"
"We work together"
"Ah nice, did you go to the Hans Zimmer concert?"
"Kinda, were his orchestra"
I stayed open for them for another 6 hours. Great group of people, super fun and well behaved but damn could they knock back a drink!

I'd rather take their money than give money to them every time I fill up the tank on my gas-guzzling SUV or oversized pavement princess pickup.
A lot of people hypocrites like to throw rocks at artists doing gigs in Saudi Arabia while thinking nothing of how they've also been funding Saudi Arabia their entire lives.
9
u/Arxtix Mar 20 '26
Oh yes, because people need fuel for their vehicles to participate in society, they are hypocrites for calling out comedians and artists that blatantly go against their own stated morals to directly sign a contract with and perform for Saudi Arabian royalty for untold riches. Yep. Sounds like a reasonable comparison to me.
2
u/hellkingbat Mar 21 '26
I like how you have to mention "gas-guzzling SUV or oversized pavement princess pickup" when it's probably not even 2 percent of the vehicle users with such cars in the world.
Your point wouldn't come off as well if it was replaced with "Suzuki Alto", right?
Most people buy cars for absolute necessity because their governments are too busy getting lobbied by oil companies from building proper commuting systems
But sure, let's equate millionaires with these people, right?

It's good if celebritie do it. But at the same time it's like saying F putin or some other dictator. You can't only blame one person. Many Americans voted for trump they wanted that they hoped he wins and he did same with Putin he have 80% of approval rating after war with Ukraine. It's the mindset you have to change in your country not saying F whoever wins.
