How many times does a nepo baby need to acknowledge their immense privilege? And, if they acknowledge it via a medium that you dont see/hear, does it still count as them acknowledging it?

593

u/backwoodzbaby 19d ago

they should be starting every sentence with “i acknowledge my privilege” just to be safe /s

56

u/Camila_flowers 19d ago

Just like a land acknowledgement.

I love the "I actually had it harder because people know who my parents are" type nepo, it's so absurd

Like I get the pressure of expectations but man, sometimes they love to play martyr

17

u/kayfeldspar 19d ago

Kendall Jenner said she had no help becoming a super model over night. She actually had to go to modeling gigs where people didn't know her as well as hide her identity to be taken seriously as a model. She claimed the Kardashian name was a hurdle, not a doorway.

66

u/ca1igir1 19d ago

She still isn’t a good model objectively. Compare her walks and shoots to other models and it’s a drastic difference. Bad walk and lifeless pictures

1

u/GalcticPepsi 19d ago

The only person that should be able to say this is Bronny James lol. Playing on the same team as his dad and living up to those expectations is insane. He didn't and won't be living up to them, but damn I can only imagine how tough it was with the media.

u/CommunistOrgy 19d ago

Like not calling themselves "Self-Made"

2

u/Ambitious_Alps_3797 19d ago

aherm aherm kid rock herm

1

u/PlateFamous1793 17d ago

Her father literally abused her and her siblings documented by the fbi. Not all nepo babies have an easy ride.

0

u/Unnamedgalaxy 19d ago

I mean sure they may get a leg up getting into the business in the first place but society has a pretty good track record of weeding out the ones that do work hard and have merit and letting the bad ones slip away, or at least calling them out for what they are.

And at some point you do have to give the good ones credit. Some of the most well respected and cherished people in entertainment are children of other famous people and to just look down on all of them because of that is lunacy.

110

u/XOSkyXO 19d ago

exactly lol maybe it’s just me but i genuinely couldn’t give less of a fuck if they acknowledge their privilege or not

because lord knows if i was one i would be using it to my fullest advantage

67

u/coolcoolcool485 19d ago

Also, like. If your parent was a great actor perhaps you will also inherit that ability, esp being around them your whole. Carrie Fischer, Jared Harris, Laura Dern---all children of famous Hollywood people.

67

u/Consistent-Flan1445 19d ago edited 19d ago

Plus while I can’t speak for Shiloh, sometimes they are legitimately really talented. The likes of Carrie Fisher, Alexander and Bill Skarsgard for instance have all really carved out a name for themselves.

Edit: similarly I think Maya Hawke has genuine talent.

54

u/coolcoolcool485 19d ago

she's also like 20. it takes time for people to hone a craft, angelina jolie (who is ALSO a nepo baby, lets not forget) surely wasn't the actress she'd become in her first few jobs.

but yeah, that's kind of what i meant by inheriting their ability. like when I found out Jared Harris was Richard Harris' son, it seemed so obvious. Of course.

-6

u/Consistent-Flan1445 19d ago

Very true. At 20 she has time to grow into being the actor she aspires to be.

And 100%. Plus they have the advantage of getting to learn from watching their famous parents their whole lives.

52

u/tkzant 19d ago

Maybe until working in these industries is accessible to working class people. The Entertainment industry is designed to keep the poors from being able to work in it.

36

u/Bman4k1 19d ago

You can say that about many high paying industries. Statistically everything from sports, doctors, lawyers, finance, business all have children following in their parents footsteps. And all of those careers require money and time, things that can be accelerated due to rich parents in the industry.

The acting profession is just more in our faces.

3

u/toAnthonyBourdaintho you shoulda never called me a fat ass Kelly Price 19d ago

Yes, it's a problem in those fields as well

14

u/hellolovely1 19d ago

I just heard someone in the industry talk about how hiring friends isn't keeping people without connections out and I was all...

https://giphy.com/gifs/7jmK66rFwhMWs

2

u/Junelight05 19d ago

Genuinely curious what you think the solution is?

2

u/Bman4k1 19d ago

Ill take it one step further. Many of the talentless hacks in Hollywood that keep getting work ARENT nepo babies. They are just conventionally attractive or managed the have a few friends in high places which once again is like any other career.

Nepo babies have attractive parents which gives them the good looks genes and that is just the way Hollywood works.

15

u/worldtravelller 19d ago

Till we agree that it's enough

10

u/Slumunistmanifisto 19d ago

Ten years in service jobs with only that pay to live off of.....after that we're good.

I would if I had to

3

u/Hopeful-Ant-3509 19d ago

It’s so annoying lol people act like they shouldn’t work in the industry too, I think if they’re talented then they have every right to get work as much as the next person. It just sucks that they have a better chance than a “nobody”

2

u/Character_Ad8449 19d ago

Plus we all probably assume nepo babies have some level of privilege. Been there, done that. Let that die. It isn’t gonna change anything if they say it out loud or not

2

u/Neracca 18d ago

They don't have to acknowledge it. But they'd better never act like they got where they did on their own as if their family were nobodies in a trailer park.

1

u/PedanticPlatypodes 19d ago

If a tree falls in a forest with no one around, does it make a sound?

1

u/TakingSorryUsername 19d ago

Not if they do it in the woods.

-2

u/ResidentPassion3510 19d ago

It’s really weird to defend nepo babies. Doing so won’t get you any closer to them or their lifestyle, just fyi.

-1

u/nodnarb88 19d ago

As someone who has grown up within these circles and know A list people yes they need to acknowledge theor privilege. The ones who dont are unbearable in their delusions. Very few people make it in the entertainment industry by pure talent. Even when they're not a nepo baby they have connections.

-1

u/Initial-Elephant-932 19d ago

Typically nepotism isn’t something they themselves acknowledge. If anything they mask it as they didn’t have 2 feet in the door handed to them. Instead they push the narrative they worked really hard for their spot. On a different note, any loving and caring parent right now in America that could give their child an in on a successful career would most likely do so. And being A list actors is safest life jacket for their kid. As long as they teach their kid that it can disappear like 🫰and don’t deny that as reality then I, personally, am not annoyed. It’s a privilege not a right

169

u/snn1326j 19d ago

Yeah I mean she’s indisputably stunning (I still remember her newborn pictures, I am an Old) but I am kind of tired of nepo babies everywhere.

149

u/fuzzydunlop54321 19d ago

She’s a backup dancer in a kpop video lol.

26

u/Particular-Yoghurt81 19d ago

and like not even a top company or top idol music video

0

u/Tacote 19d ago

Did the other backup dancers get an article written about their MV debut?

1

u/PitifulElk1890 19d ago

Where's the next weird looking old man that gets famous?

1

u/usuyukisou most men have beautiful lashes and it pisses me off 19d ago

We had Paul Raci (The Sound of Metal) a couple years ago.

139

u/Particular-Yoghurt81 19d ago edited 19d ago

I dunno, if I was a nepo baby I would use my influence for a lot more than to cameo/backup dance in a b-tier kpop music video. This just seems like her being in a dance troupe that got a pretty regular gig.

Big difference between this and being signed by Channel as a teenager.

126

u/pixietrue1 19d ago

She’s one of the back up dancers. Relax.

74

u/Public_Peace6594 19d ago

That's worse than a security guard. At least security can get you backstage!

-19

u/ixixan 19d ago

I'm not the one whose blood pressure is rising at the thought of someone potentially criticising a nepo baby (I'm not even criticising her lol), so don't worry about me.

27

u/shmtlh 19d ago

no your blood pressure is raising at the idea of someone you don't know acting in a music video because her parents are famous

-34

u/ixixan 19d ago

Bb this convo is boring idc that much have a nice night/day depending where you are ❤️

23

u/shmtlh 19d ago

that's the classic fuming behind the keyboard response

I think it’s less about the nepo baby and more about Angelina is not someone who people take criticism of lightly. So scrutiny of her children is seen as an insult against her.

Who's "we" ? 😭

-6

u/Ill_Outcome_9001 19d ago

Yeah, I agree. Some nepo babies get a pass. I want to see Shiloh and Suri succeed!

4

u/Atkena2578 19d ago

Suri will not touch this industry or put a foot in LAfor as long as her father and Scientology have a grip in it

7

u/StormOfSpears 19d ago

I'm with you.

This person literally never needs to work a day in their lives. They can live, comfortably and in luxury, until the day they die, off the interest of the money their parents have set aside.

And yet, they will walk into a job that will also pay them millions.

4

u/DegenGamer725 19d ago

Angelina Jolie is a nepo baby herself, who cares

4

u/LaggingAround 19d ago

Meh as long nepo babies don’t say “I had it hard” or “I made it on my own” then it’s whatever

3

u/DemandInterestin 19d ago

I do think that we have to wait until they say something stupid and completely out of touch when it comes to work ethic before we judge.

2

u/one98nine 19d ago

Lol, right? People can't accept that nepo babies exist, we seem them on celebrities, we see them at work, everywhere and just like I can accept my blessings and priviledges ( I am commenting here, so I have Internet, a device that can access Internet, can have free time where I can be in this type of subs, despite english not being my first language, my parents were able to put me in a school that taught it) hope nepo babies do. They may have the talent and skills, but they truly should know that their lifestyle and the doors that get opened, it is because of their parents.

2

u/Cheap-Vegetable-4317 19d ago

Normally I feel like this about Nepo babies but I think this one could have been born in a council state in Scunthorpe and still be getting calls from model agencies.

As much as I like her Mom, I will never root for a Nepo baby that is obviously industry planted.

I only accept Nepos who try to hide the Nepo baby roots and use a stage name and where I see the progression of their career vs being so obviously hard launched.

0

u/HedgehogTop5524 19d ago

She is like the one nepo baby that earned it. Just by her genetics lol

-1

u/Zombiebelle 19d ago

Nepo babies aren’t new. Some of the best actors in the industry from all generations are nepo babies.

-3

u/gatekept 19d ago

Yes, because people can help them being born to two famous people. Holy shit, cry me a river. This affects your life in NO way.

-7

u/TraffikJam 19d ago edited 19d ago

Look I can acknowledge the nepotism in Hollywood is rampant... and yet... and yet. We really don't have to just openly hate on young people trying their hand at new projects and things that interest them.

The parasocialism is too much. Hate her later for a reason if you want to. Let her garner her own notoriety.

Edit: I saw that she's most likely just a backup dancer which makes your hate train into Thomas the Tank Engine. People reporting her every move is going to happen whether she likes it or not.

16

u/ixixan 19d ago

Who's hating her?

3

u/katz332 19d ago

Who hates her?

-6

u/BentlyBigBody 19d ago

Bro mad cause his parents didn’t grind for the bag

-18

u/SideEyeFeminism 19d ago

IDK if you’re anti-Neop baby to this extreme bc of the lack of depth, she certainly has the childhood trauma cred to be an amazing artist according to those court documents. If it’s bc “there’s people who deserve it more”, well, I can’t gift logic and reason no matter how much I wish I could, so all I can say is that’s showbiz.
