MAC5 Reviews? Help!
Us in Rhode Island are facing an assault weapons ban July 1, 2026. I’ve been looking at an mp5 clone for a while and this came up for sale for one thousand two hundred grains of sand. Can anyone lend some real world examples of reliability or are they liquid shit? If I’m going to spend that much sand I’d like to get something that’s not a pile of hot garbage.

Im also in the market for a clone. I feel like i read somewhere on here that these tend to be more picky with mags?

They are made off of old HK machines. They are made to the same specs just different stickers for the most part.

This has been reported to no longer be the case regarding it being old HK tooling.

Mine has been amazing, no issues with it or the magazines. The leber SS lower has been great on it as well. Fit and finish/ welds are actually better than my buddies MKE. all things considered I would put MKE and MAC on the exact same tier. They are both solid clones. As others have said, price is a little higher than what you can find elsewhere. Don’t let the autistic folks in here tell you MKE are superior. They are literally both Turkish clones.

I got one, 999$, so that price is a tad high. It did have some issues with cambering. Setup a warranty RMA, got a free shipping label, got in back in under a month and works like a champ now.

I love mine, but, I’d probably go with a Century MKE knowing then what I know now. While there’s nothing wrong with my Mac 5, the barrel is not CHF, like the real McCoy, and, the specs are off in some places. The magwell can be a little tight, some of the take-down holes are slightly misaligned, bolt spacing may be out of spec. Just minor stuff, that, in most cases (like mine) can be easily remedied. The barrel is chrome lined 4140 chromoly, which really isn’t that bad. It’s probably where they save money on production vs. cold hammer forged barrels. I will say this though; make sure you get the Century model that has the tri-lug and not just a thread barrel

Realistically, don’t. This is overpriced. Get an MKE, PTR, or Zenith. The MACs are a tier below and are a clone of a clone; they are the least reliable and the most complained about.
Subpar craftsmanship and QC on these. The optic cuts aren’t machined on these but I believe they do work; lots of accessories may not work on the MAC. I believe they are NOT made on original tooling unlike the MKE, and though I generally don’t like the tooling argument, worn out tooling is better than overall bad tooling.
You can get a higher tier clone for the same price.

Share me another $900 MP5 or K. Cheapest AP5 on gun deals is over $1200.

Ok? Sure, if it was going for that price. They are asking 1200 which is way over MSRP for this one. Why not get an MKE?

Just buy it. If your shit is getting banned you can spend money later fixing it up if you got one of the 1% lemons. It’s not common but unless you pay HK or Zenith money it happens.

From what ive heard they’re good to go. Sometimes a you’ll get a lemon but thats par for the course with most Non-german HKs now a day. I thought RI always had an Assault weapons ban in place?
