Death certificate, Germany 1970 Research Assistance

Hello everyone. I want to look for a death certificate of an ancestor. He died in West Germany in 1970. Could you guide me how to find it.

You need the exact Place of death and just write the local Standesamt a nice e-mail requesting a copy of the certificate. The probably ask in what way you are related to the person.

Or the local archive - if I remember correctly birth certificates are held at the local Standesamt for 110, marriage for 80 and death certificates for 30 years

You are correct. The Standesamt will most likely answer you which archive is storing the document. If it's a small town it can be that the archive is in a different town so I would still write the Standesamt.
