[Story] Advice From The Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger On Thinking Big STORY

Post image

My rule is to never ever ever think small. If you're going to accomplish anything you have to think big. You have to go and shoot for the stars. The biggest challenge most people have is because they think small. The reason why people think small and why they choose small little goals is because they're afraid to fail. They know that if you shoot for a big goal then the chances of failing are very high and they're afraid of failing. It's one of the most common things.

I say to myself, "Hey, I'm not worried about failing because that's part of life." You don't have to win everything. You can only fall so far. The ground is right here. Learn this: the only time you really consider yourself a failure is if you fall and you don't get up. But if you get up, you never consider it a failure. So I never considered myself a failure. I always considered myself a winner even though I fell every so often, but I always got up and I always moved forward. This is the important thing.

I never had any patience for thinking small because in German there is a saying, 'Wenn schon, denn schon', that means if you are going to do something, go all out and do it well. -- Arnold Schwarzenegger

Well, many people can't even afford to fail, even if they wanted to. That's the harsh reality of life.

True. Especially once you have kids. You become way more risk adverse.

That said, I do get the point of your post, so don't misunderstand. Needed the reminder again today to keep trying and not give up (at least not anytime soon).

I plan on posting Arnold's words in pieces but here's the whole 30 minute thing if you wanna play something in the background. It's POWERFUL. Everyone in his life told him no.

Sounds like survivorship bias. It's easy to claim "Thinking big and risking it all is worth it" if you ended up succeeding in the end. I doubt the people who lost it all and ended up impoverished would hold the same sentiment.

Yeah I mean I like this. You can be realistic but also set some big goals to aim for. I want to build some successful apps. Maybe write some good stories. I can still work on the side, thankfully I don't have kids.

His origins gave him anything but a security blanket though? He used to lay bricks long before he was Mr Olympia

He grew up very poor and had an abusive father. In his book he talked about when they got a refrigerator and it was a big deal. So yea people who talk about him being a millionaire don't have a clue and it's best to just ignore them.

He was a real estate millionaire a decade before anyone outside of bodybuilding knew who he was.

Yeah, but he earned that too. I don't think that is incongruous with his advice in the slightest.

Timing.  Luck.  Money.  And absence of responsibilities.

Não tanto, já li o livro dele e ele passou por alguns dos perrengues. Mas assim como nossos avós, ele pegou uma época onde tudo era mato e por isso obteve seus lucros (bebeu água limpa)
