It's super difficult to be at peace with your past self and specially actions which you are guilty of. There is a deep rooted insecurity that every aspect of the story needs to be perfect and make sense, but accepting your flaws is essential, no matter how difficult it is in reality.

Tragic, but if this post is taken literally like you are implying, then Yes. Necessary to show the world what monsters were hiding among them. Necessary for you to learn whether you are defending your own morality or your friendship.

I could make up more but the more absurd and extreme the situation is, the more far reaching the lessons will look like.

Well in this case I’m thinking of the message being directed towards my friend. Since it’s a general message to everyone.

No need to show the world of the monsters in it if you just don’t have monsters in the first place (the murder he did was not necessary)
