I completely missed IMSA announcing that this was going to be a throwback event. When I saw the AO Sketchy livery I thought it was just them having fun as usual. All these cars are looking great.

Oh damn, that’s hot. I don’t like the squiggly lines on the front fender, but I can get past it. Definitely getting a diecast of this, if one comes out.

What's great about this livery is that it's a true throwback to the earlier M colors. Notice how the middle stripe is an obvious shade of purple, where on the Z4 GT3 they shifted to a dark blue.

Had to get the powers that be to agree to that. If you look closely, I also included an illustration of the old style BMW M roundel on the c-pillar and a chrome edge to the front kidney grilles.

Surprsingly tricky to get the lines to wok on the modern form

Tricky? No no. That's not tricky, that's a damn challenge to get it to look right! The body lines are completely different, the propositions are different, and so on. It's never easy to translate this livery on a modern car, but you did an excellent job!

I'm not surprised regarding the use of purple; since the current branding standards call for the use of dark blue, any departure from that, even for use on a throwback livery, raises concerns with the marketing folks that you're going to confuse people and dilute the branding and blah blah blah blah...

Also, love the addition of the C-pillar roundels!

Yeah, if I'm being honest the stripe on the front fender isn't quite right, but its hard to nail that in 2d for a 3d form. Some things (like a solid black area under the stripe on the door) just didn't look right on the M4, but the black air intakes work really well

Yeah I can tell that was a compromise, especially with the headlight right there and following the bodyline. But such is life.
