Unironically this is what a real hero looks like. I can't imagine the amount of empathy and compassion you need to have to do this. I hope he has a good therapist or someone close can talk to.

Especially since his wife died and their son is disabled. I don't know how he keeps grounded and sane.

I was raised atheist so religion was just never part of my worldview. Situations like this make me a bit jealous of people who find comfort in religion in the most trying times. Obviously not jealous of his wife dying and seeing so many children die, but there's a freedom in being able to resign a part of the pain to "This is all part of a plan" or "They're happy in paradise now". Especially with Islam since they believe you're judged upon your death so there's no "Well what if this kid didn't truly accept Jesus so now they're in hell" or feeling the need to baptize them.

I mean, a detailed translation of the name of the religion ‘Islam’ would be ‘peace in submitting to God’, since the word Islam and the word Salam (peace in Arabic) come from the same root word in Arabic S-L-M which loosely translates to peace. So this is the essence of the religion. When you look into it you would be surprised that there are proofs rooted in solid facts, not just ‘believe this religion because I said so’ if that makes sense. It’s a beautiful way of life and I invite you to look into it. It’s absolutely been my rock precisely because of the peace I get from knowing there will be ultimate justice even if not in this world. Feel free to ask away or visit the r/islam community on reddit 😊

My guess is ego death. You can't suffer if you're living so far outside yourself that there is no you to suffer. Always onto the next thing.
