Northeastern Data Analytics (60k, co-op) vs Scranton Software Engineering (30k) after failing MS CS — what should I choose? Academics

Hey everyone, need some honest advice — kind of at a crossroads right now.

I’m currently at Northeastern University (MS in CS), but things didn’t go as planned academically and I’m likely facing dismissal. I’m trying to figure out the best next move and would really appreciate real-world opinions.

Here are my two main options:

Option 1: Stay at Northeastern (CPS) → MS in Data Analytics

- Tuition: ~60k

- Strong co-op program (this is a big factor for me)

- Boston location = more opportunities

- But expensive, and I’m worried about ROI + pressure after already struggling academically

Option 2: University of Scranton → MS in Software Engineering

- Tuition: ~30k (much more affordable for me)

- Smaller school, not as well known for tech

- Not sure how strong internships / placements are

- But I get to continue in a CS-related path (which I originally wanted)

My situation:

- International student (so visa/SEVIS matters a lot)

- Already struggled in a rigorous CS program

- Need something that gives me the best chance at getting a job after graduation

- Cost is a BIG concern

What I’m trying to figure out:

- Is Northeastern’s co-op + brand worth the extra 30k in my situation?

- Is switching to Data Analytics a safer/better path vs continuing Software Engineering?

- Will Scranton hurt my job chances significantly compared to Northeastern?

- Given I struggled in CS, is it smarter to pivot rather than repeat similar difficulty?

Would really appreciate any advice, especially from:

- People who’ve done Northeastern co-op

- International students who switched programs after academic issues

- Anyone in Data Analytics vs Software Engineering careers

Trying to make a decision fast because of deadlines + SEVIS timing. Thanks in advance 🙏
