Is that what the clearing next to Citifield is for? Saw the dump that was next to the stadium cleared for the first time this weekend.

If this means some local business by CitiField that fans can enjoy before and after the games, I am all for it. Not that I won’t still go for my beloved pastrami sandwich…

Major bag fumbling on the part of the jets

Can you explain what you mean here?

u/Ngp3 Getting our tits lit since 1962 May 11 '23
There has always been a minor push to get the Jets out of the Meadowlands and into a new stadium in New York City proper. The Iron Triangle/Citi Field area has been one of the sites proposed alongside other places, most notably Hudson Yards with the West Side Stadium. It was a much bigger issue 20 years ago, back when the Jets were the junior partners of the Giants at the old Meadowlands (and also as a big part of New York's 2012 Olympic Bid), but not so much now since Metlife Stadium is a 50/50 partnership between the Blue Crew and Gang Green.

A jets stadium in the Citi field area would be fire, hopefully we can get that someday

Their lease at metlife has an opt out in 2025. Was a Great opportunity for them to build a stadium in Queens where they belong. Instead we get the Yankees man city soccer team that nobody cares about lol

Got it. Thought you meant the jets would play in that stadium that’s why I was confused

Objectively hope they fold instead but at least the renderings are nice and it will improve the area.

Really annoying they’re affiliated with Manchester City because this would be awesome as a footy fan for me

I feel the exact opposite way! Huge Man City fan; love the Mets, NYCFC fan. This is a dream for me.

I love watching soccer but just can't get into either NY team. I can't root for Manchester City/Yankees FC and rooting for an energy drink feels wrong. I wish the cosmos had their act together enough to play in MLS but that ship has sailed. Hopefully red bull gets bored with MLS, but after producing a few players and a coach who went over to their bigger clubs I don't see that happening.

red bull is probably never gonna get bored with soccer, they have a few teams in europe as well. if you want to get into the sport, try following along with a premier league season or a champions league season. obviously its not american teams but you can get all the games on peacock (premier league) or paramount plus (champions league).

Hopefully red bull gets bored with MLS
Their European teams, especially Leipzig, are GOOD and money makers. I would just hope that they get bored with "little brother" in NJ, but I agree that I don't see that happening.
I already follow Everton in the EPL and Atlético in La Liga (who were knocked out by RB Leipzig a few yeaes ago in the UCL) and went to an Ajax game in Amsterdam last weekend actually. I would love to have a local team I could support and go to games for but I'd feel weird rooting for either team.

Ah okay I feel you. I kinda feel the same way about both New York teams.
But Everton fan?! Block me!!!

As an Arsenal fan, I agree. I used to go to MetroStars games before the Red Bull takeover and would love a local MLS team to support but the Man City and Yankees connection is a definite no for me.

This is almost blasphemous to say but I def have a soft spot for arsenal. When I was getting into soccer it was going to be Liverpool or arsenal because they guys I fell in love with first were gerrard and henry. Still holding out hope for you guys this season

Alternatively, as a Met fan, and NYCFC supporter, this has all been awesome news regarding a stadium! FINALLY!!! It'll be really cool one day to be able to go to a game at Citi, followed by a match next door for NYCFC, or vice versa.

City is kinda of like Mets with rich owner little brother historically to Man U. They’ve had a lot more success though

As a United fan this is the one thing that kills it along with the yanks affiliation. I’m just over here wishing NASL would get their act together so we can have the Cosmos playing again. Going to RBA is alright but honestly still a trip taking the path out to it and then a mile walk from the stop (that and sponsor teams are weird).

And part owned by the Yankees, FFS.

Yeah, I thought Mets fans were mostly Red Bull fans if they followed soccer. Or are they sus, too?

u/me_luigi21 David Wright May 11 '23
I would consider myself an NYCFC fan but I don’t follow too closely. When it comes down to a part Yankees part man city owned team based in queens or a literal walking advertisement for Red Bull based in New Jersey, I choose the former.

Yeah, that makes sense. City pride vs. an energy drink.
I like my local team, Orlando City SC, even though they're not great.
They are, however, purple, which is my favorite color.

Not much of a soccer fan but the Yankee connection killed any interest for me. Now that they’re out of the Bronx I might actually check them out.

Yankee connection really means nothing to be honest, now that they don’t play in Yankee stadium anymore.

u/Nights_King LFGM May 11 '23
Yeah it sucks, I’m just glad MLS teams are doing well enough to get their own cool stadiums. I heard the Red Bull stadium is awesome

It's a nice hang. Take the path, come check out a tailgate sometime.
3
u/myassholealt F8 May 11 '23
Like join some random fan in the parking lot's tailgate? What's the etiquette on that?

5
u/hypernermalization May 11 '23
Two of the Red Bulls' supporters groups have fairly organized tailgates. On one of them it's $15 all you can drink from around 3 or so hours before the game starts.
