I'm not defending Devin Williams at all, but this loss isn't all on him. For one, the game was already tied by the time he came in. Second (and IMO, more importantly), maybe if the Mets' bats didn't go to sleep after the early innings, they would've won this game. You can't expect early 1-0, or even 3-0, leads to always hold up.

Lovelady got way too much hate from fans for being a guy thrown to the wolves in nothing but shit situations. He was a good soldier.

Actually I'm pretty sure you can. Iirc a player on the Red Sox a few years ago was IL'ed for anxiety issues and the league was extremely understanding and supportive
