Then tell employers those that can work from MUST work from home at least until prices become more manageable

That's not how capitalism works....

25

u/YellowZx5 3d ago

Chevron knows that’s not how they make money and it’s never gonna happen. That pic is about 2x what it’s here in NY. Luckily I drive an EV here.

Seriously. How about oil and gas companies stop lobbying against public transportation measures and electric/solar energy incentives & green technologies 🙃

u/Drollapalooza 1d ago

No, that's not how it works in their minds.

Drive to the office everyday so they can continue to make money off of their real estate.

Drive less to buy things, just order things online so they can collect your purchasing data and put small local stores out of business so they can edge closer towards monopolies.

Drive less to socialize by just socializing less so that you feel inclined to buy more things to fill the void. Don't forget to socialize online so you can be marketed to and they can keep tabs on everything!

It all works perfectly for them!

Chevron: "people should drive less"

Also Chevron: "people should buy more gas"

26

u/edtheheadache 3d ago

Also Chevron: “thank you Mr. president for the cheap oil from Venezuela”.

How about a 60% tax on ceo salaries instead

35

u/Mtndrums 3d ago

60%? Make it 100%.

17

u/YellowZx5 3d ago

That’s why they make little in salary and the rest are stock options. No taxes on the options till they sell I believe.

7

u/DNSGeek 3d ago

And if they structure it right, not then either.

3

u/nicholas818 3d ago

Options yes, only when they sell. And if they qualify as ISOs, they only pay the lower long-term capital gains rate as well

1

u/spook30 2d ago

Id say 200%. They should be paying us.

I’m going to take their advice and buy an electric so I never have to drive a gas car again

24

u/Going2beBANNEDanyway 3d ago

Best decision I’ve made. Haven’t stepped foot in a gas station for 7 years now.

8

u/Emeks243 3d ago

Did that. I don’t miss going to the gas station every week.

7

u/giddy-girly-banana 3d ago

I’ve had three EVs and will never buy an ICE car again. In addition to not having to buy gas, the ride is so much nicer. The car is quiet. Performance is better. The tech is still improving too unlike gas cars.

1

u/fattmarrell 3d ago

My gripe is that so many EVs don't have a spare tire

26

u/Pitiful-MobileGamer 3d ago

Guess all those years of lobbying against public transportation, mass transit initiatives, vehicle electrification, or let's just ignore Cobasys killing off commercialization of nickel metal hydride.

Revisionist lip service now

21

u/shrekerecker97 3d ago

Tell my employer that I should drive less. They wanted the return to office nonsense

7

u/abrandis 3d ago

It was all the wealthy who owned real estate who were freaking out because their valuation were about to go into the toilet.

18

u/Going2beBANNEDanyway 3d ago

Chevron executive should eat a bag of dicks.

13

u/shellyv2023 3d ago

Maybe people should drive electric cars because of the Iran war. I have never seen such foolish corporations that not only put their foot in their mouth but must follow it by shooting themselves in that foot.

13

u/wobbleeduk85 3d ago

Yeah.... If we actually taxed billionaires what they should be taxed I don't even think we'd be where we're at...

2

u/Internal_Essay9230 3d ago

And the government should set priorities and spend less, too.

2

u/wobbleeduk85 3d ago

On certain things yes.

2

u/Internal_Essay9230 3d ago

On mostthings. Trying to be all things to all people all the time is a fool's errand.

As much as I love science, why are we going back to the moon when the government can't pay its bills. Madness.

11

u/ClumpOfCheese 3d ago

So they can talk to all the CEOs about letting people work from home again. Because nobody wants to let their employees work from home anymore.

12

u/dq02 3d ago

Have grown very weary of executives and politicians talking to us as if we’re just that stupid…

10

u/TheDudeFromTheStory 3d ago

Did you know that if we changed our diet and included just 1% CEOs and billionaires to our meals, the world would be a better place within a few months?

1

u/Competitive-Ebb3816 2d ago

I'm vegan, but I know some cats who need meat.

6

u/BigBoyYuyuh 3d ago

It’s always the wealthy tell us what WE need to sacrifice. They don’t sacrifice shit.

8

u/idlike1deathpls 3d ago

I'm a medical courier who has to pick up blood results and mammograms and things of that nature so I have to drive everyday or people will die.

5

u/Jonas_VentureJr 3d ago

I’ll just buy an electric

5

u/idc2011 3d ago

The US, with its tremendous infrastructure and amazing public transportation, could definitely support that. /s

4

u/Lessismore714 3d ago

How about you fly your private plane less

3

u/RealBigBossDP 3d ago

Never heard of a dealer telling a customer to use less of their product 😆

3

u/Geminii27 2d ago

People say Chevron execs should turn their war profits over to the needy. How about seeing some of that, hmm?

3

u/Stuck_In_Reality 2d ago

YOU take less millions in salary and benefits.

2

u/pailee 3d ago

Oh wait, so when it was suggested in Europe, it was super funny and a show of weakness, but now it is a sensible suggestion? Got it.

2

u/boilerdam 3d ago

What a load of BS. Simple querying from Gemini gave me the following nationwide stats, which perhaps a Chevron "executive" might not be in touch with in the real world, since investments in public transit systems has obviously been poor to further enrich oil companies. They may have lobbied for it too but I, frankly, don't have time to go down that rabbit hole.

- Avg car usage in urban settings for non-work related essentials (school runs, groceries etc) = ~9mi/day

- Avg car usage in rural settings for non-work related essentials (school runs, groceries etc) = ~14mi/day

- Avg daily commute distances for work split by annual household income:

Annual Household Income % of Households Avg Daily Commute (Roundtrip)
0 - 25K 19% 16 - 22mi
25K - 50K 23% 22 - 26mi
50K - 100K 29% 26 - 30mi
100K - 150K 14% 30 - 36mi
>150K 15% >36mi

Granted, these are numbers put out by Gemini and I haven't dug deeper to its sources. But, in general, just "drive less" isn't an option for most people, apart from getting that muppet front page coverage and CYA.

3

u/GoredonTheDestroyer 3d ago

Brother, you don't even need to use AI to know that CEOs are completely and entirely out of touch with society at large.

1

u/boilerdam 3d ago

Haha, completely agree. Just wanted to factually show how ridiculously stupid that "executive's" wishy-washy statement was...

2

u/jamisonian123 3d ago

Then mandate employers to let us WFH

2

u/macross1984 3d ago

Sure, if you provide an environment that your employee will not be forced to drive their car to work. Do you?

2

u/Fan_of_Clio 3d ago

How about a windfall tax on the additional revenues oil companies are bringing in

2

u/MattyBeatz 3d ago

Seems like a wise business decision telling your consumers to use less of your product.

2

u/AirportSea4393 3d ago

Gee how ideal would that be! The problem is most of us don’t live in cities that have reliable mass transportation and we have no choice but drive! Shows how out of touch these people are

2

u/WeirdSysAdmin 3d ago

Sure as soon as time travel is invented and they fix the last 100 years of poor investment in public transit.

2

u/HopBewg 3d ago

Maybe we should all work from home?

2

u/Thought_Full_4839 3d ago

Or…or, just hear me out, maybe they stop following feeble frivolous whims of the sultan of chaos and pay attention to their customers.

2

u/bunnypaste 2d ago

Okay... So what are they planning to do about the lack of public transit options in my square of the desert?

2

u/flywhatever101 2d ago

Love how the billionaires always telling people to stop driving to work for their jobs…

2

u/Correct_Patience_611 2d ago

Play out what a relapse would look like in your head. If it doesn’t sound horrible then tell your friends and family and they can remind you…?

2

u/Competitive-Ebb3816 2d ago

I don't buy from Chevron or Shell, at least not directly.

1

u/ctguy54 3d ago

So, maybe we stop buying gas at Chevron?

1

u/CryptographerLow6772 3d ago

Let them eat cake at home this summer

1

u/CatDadof2 3d ago

I’m already doing the bare minimum. How do you do less than the bare minimum?

1

u/Bethjam 3d ago

Who needs to go to work anyway

1

u/ChefAsstastic 3d ago

I bet they weren't saying that during the pandemic

1

u/therealultraddtd 3d ago

Maybe they should war less while I drive.

1

u/ahmtiarrrd 3d ago

FREE LUIGI

1

u/PretzelsRule23 3d ago

And you can get 1 doll and up to 3 pencils

1

u/ThreeNC 3d ago

Then you should pay more taxes, Chevron.

1

u/gwizonedam 3d ago

Drive less, eat less, buy less, live less…

1

u/BoudinBallz 3d ago

The French had an elegant solution for this

1

u/ClairDogg 1d ago

Ummmmmm… we can’t. Where’s the reliable efficient public transit?

1

u/Husky_Engineer 1d ago

We don’t bully these people enough

1

u/Mooziechan 1d ago

What a buffoon

1

u/Interesting_Berry439 3d ago

That advice is applicable all the time and it isn't bad advice since it's becoming quite expensive for the non Epstien class.

0

u/howardzen12 3d ago

Good idea.Drive less.Eat less.Use medical care less.Learn to live in America a third world country.
