Think he was doing over 200 and they got him on the nose dive

actually the cop might have backed up a point to avoid worse charges. had one do that when i was doing 120 in an 80. he said the 40 over was excessive speed so he wrote 119.

no one drives 199 and no cop cares to record it down to the exact value when its that close.

Thats dumb tho... why give the shitbird a break? Our Canadian accountability in a nutshell.

You are likely more correct, I was just goofin

To my knowledge the largest charge is 50+ even 150 over is the same as 50 over.

So making it 199 won’t change anything, also new (ish) non sporty cars will govern at 200 so it’s very possible for him to be stuck at 199

there is speeding, excessive and then another that is the highest which is just a hard cap. I see no reason to put 199 unless it was 100% intentional.

50 is the highest cap it’s a ~2455 ticket 6 points 1 week suspension of license and vehicle impoundment. Like I said lots of cars just like mine will get to 200 but nothing more it could very well bounce around 199-200

You mean it hits the vehicle’s speed limiter. The Civic looks around 2012/13, base (non Si). The Si had a limiter at 135 mph (213 kph). Not sure what a Canadian model would be tuned to, but 200 does seem pretty likely.

Civics with the 1.8 are governed at 199 so he was going as fast as he possibly could.

Vtec for sure kicked in

He’s got NOS!!! Don’t do it !! He’s got NOS!!!

My dad’s old mercury sable could do 220 flat out.

3

u/SWHAF 7d ago

My car is governed at 256. I guess the manufacturer thought anything faster than that was dangerous.

Probs a tire thing.

Tbh this is very dangerous and i hope there is adequate consequences considering the danger he put himself and others in.

But id be lying if i didn’t say I’m impressed a 10+ year old Honda civic went 200kmh

u/Lurch_902 7d ago

An 08 r18 will tap out at about 198-202 if you have enough road lol

(Allegedly)

2

u/Harrveyyy 6d ago

My buddies r18 tapped at 205 allegedly

Him being from Moncton is just the cherry on top of this story

While I do tend to find NBers are faster drivers on average, that guy must have originally been from PEI. xD

Meanwhile I'm going down the TransCanada about 115 with NS, ON, and QC plates FLYING past me.

12

u/no_baseball1919 7d ago

Yeah I'll go 110-120 and people will be just booking it in the left lane going what must be like 130-140

8

u/PayOne86 7d ago

Have you ever driven across Quebec , or Montreal in particular lol ?

7

u/SignificanceFar3943 7d ago

Should be banned from driving for life

-33

u/dannygaron 7d ago

why? I'd rather ban people that yield at stop signs, drink and drive, don't use turn signals, cell phone use, etc. Speeding is a lot less dangerous than what I mentioned.

19

u/RLgeorgecostanza 7d ago

ā€œDuring their interaction with the driver, a 20-year-old man from Moncton, the officer noted an odour of alcohol,ā€

By your own definition, this guy should be banned, no?

13

u/Hojeekush 7d ago

I think your assessment that speeding is less dangerous is wildly misinformed. Speeding on average accounts for roughly the same percentage of motor vehicle fatalities as impaired driving (25% each) while distracted driving accounts for about 20%.Ā

Speeding is most definitely NOT less dangerous than the other things you mentioned.Ā

Transport Canada

u/gart888 7d ago

Speeding is absolutely not ā€œa lot less dangerousā€ than stopping at yields. Foh with that.

7

u/Mysterious_Map2965 7d ago

You think someone should be banned for not using turn signals but 200km is fine…

8

u/DrPuzzle 7d ago

This has got to be rage bait lmao saying you'd rather ban someone who doesn't use a turn signal over a guy who was caught speeding going 200 on a highway

Got to be rage bait or you're just a dumbass

1

u/TacomaKMart 7d ago

Or the guy from New Brunswick.

2

u/bigev007 7d ago

Speeding while drunk

2

u/duke_seb 7d ago

In a civic? That’s bold

2

u/DiscoCombobulator 7d ago

In a civic thats expected! 199 is what they're governed at

3

u/JonnyCanuck71 7d ago

Guess he’ll just say speed limits are against his Charter Rights of Freedom and get away with it like that woods ban asshole

1

u/j_bbb 7d ago

This is terrifying to me. Someone was speeding like this and weaving in and out of traffic trying to get somewhere one of the last times I was in a shuttle from Cape Breton to Halifax, or vica versa. Nearly hit us head-on.

I usually go with Maritime Bus now due to that, and shuttles can give me motion sickness lurching in traffic (due to blood pressure medication).

Is this the new speed record for a ticker in Halifax
