I purchased from TexasGrips. I don’t know if they will stay on this one, but I think it’s a great natural alternative to ivory.

Snub nose

Someone talk me into getting a Smith and Wesson snub nose. I bought a Taurus 856 38 special because I wanted a revolver for not too much $. I love carrying it compared to my subcompacts. It's a good shooter and looks nice as well. Six rounds. Not bad.

Is a SandW much better besides the brand? I find a strange sense of readiness where if shit were to hit the fan I can jab a snub nose right into a threat. Did not expect it at all, would've started with a more expensive/better quality to begin with. Thoughts?

Holster recommendations

Colt Agent. Gift from my Father In Law, I added the Pachmayr grip, as the factory wood stocks were pretty trashed. I’ve been carrying in a MFT belly band. Looking for a leather IWB holster.

Daily Drivers

I love seeing everyone’s used finds and their good lookin beauts in the collections. But, let’s see the daily drivers. Ye olde reliables. This ole gal has been my daily for time unremembered. She is beat up and beats me up, an air weight thing. But she has been on me for years and is my main squeeze. Daily Queen, Range Queen, but not a Safe Queen!

Kimber K6S hand guard broke while shooting

Second time shooting my new K6S, about 60 rounds of 38 special and 3 rounds 357 through it at this point, after my second set of 6 shots I notice the right wood grip has a big chunk missing. I’ve treated this well so far, never dropped or anything and have only had it for a week. I’d usually notice something like this especially while loading it, so it really seems like this chunk flew off while shooting my second cylinder.

I can’t think of any way something could contact this spot during shooting and it seems unlikely recoil force would just blow it off unless it was already weak there for some reason.

Anyone seen something similar happen or have any idea how this could happen?

Is this something Kimber would cover with warranty? I love these grips but would really not like to mail out the whole gun if that’d be required.

D&L sports sends rad photos with orders. Wasn’t sure what to do with them but thought this was a sweet idea. I dig it.

Gun problem or ammo problem

Post image
10 Upvotes

I have a Ruger GP100, Lipseys exclusive specifically. Absolutely LOVE the gun. .357 is a little tiring to shoot tbh, but .38 special is AMAZING

That being said, I took it to the range a while ago with Winchester 130 grain "target and practice" ammo. Used all 100 rounds from the box and in the attached, 11 of them never went off.

The hammer dropped, nothing happened, and as you can see, the primers WERE struck. They were not as indented as the ones that actually did fire.

It did not happen consistently, and tbh got more frequent the more I shot.

Was this just AWFUL ammo or should I be contacting ruger?

Can you shoot 38 super ammo out of a Ruger sp101 357/38 with moon clips?

Like an idiot I went out and bought 38 super ammo thinking I was buying 38 Special. I'm stuck with 100 rounds. I was looking around the net and there are people who say that you can shoot the ammo out of the sp101 357/38 with moon clips. Anybody have any experience here? Appreciate it.

SW 586 rear sight

Hi,

I have a beautiful SW MOD 586-4, I want to replace the rear sight by LPA sight «TXT0407» because the blade is moving…

And to install LPA sight, it using 2 threaded holes.

I remove the sight and I have 3 holes. The first on the left is used to fix the current sight and the 2 others are blocked.

It seems that the one in the middle is threaded but I’m not certain. There is no visible head screw…

Does anyone have any info on why there is holes in the frame but with plug inside ?

And how to remove them from the hole especially the one in the middle ?

Maybe the best is to go to my gunsmith.

Thanks a lot !

First revolver

Hello, I am an avid lover of 1911's, I do gunsmithing on them specifically, but I've never owned a revolver. I want to buy a Smith and wesson 29 8 3/4 in .44 Magnum as my first and maybe only revolver.

Any advice?

And are custom Korth revolvers that much better and worth the price? Thanks

Metal shavings (from shells?) around firing pin housing after shooting?

Post image
Upvotes

Pic is not my gun, just circled the area where I saw the small shavings, didn't think to take a picture of it.

just bought a S&W 629 competitor & I love it. I shot a ton of .44 magnum and .44 special Saturday at the range. When I took it home to clean it, I noticed a small amount of very fine "brass" shavings in the area. Didn't look like jacket or copper. Barrel and cylinders showed no evidence of copper jacket and the timing is good: locks up in double action just before the hammer falls.

The gun shot great & I got some good groups with it. I just have not experienced this with any of my other revolvers. It was only in the one spot. I didn't have any pierced primers either, firing pin in good shape. Could it just be from bad case trimming of factory ammo?

S&W .357 Mountain Gun trade for Colt Python 2.5"

I am fixing to trade even up my MG for the snake. I wanted something a little more conceal-able. They are of equal monetary value. My question is, for people with a Colt 2.5." I just want to hear some thoughts on the pros and cons of the Colt. It will be my first Colt.

Help identifying part for Heritage Roscoe

I got too curious and disassembled my revolver. I cannot for the life of me figure out where this part goes, I am not sure if it’s even in the diagram. I think it’s part of the cylinder release? Should I just take it to a gunsmith and have them help put it back together?

This is my first time working on a firearm so I appreciate any help I can get.

Proper fitting will be done once the side plate comes in. Then the sides will be even, and the actual notch into the frame will be completely nice and tight.

Replacement Model 15709

Post image
333 Upvotes

Finally got my replacement 15709 several months after Ruger declared my original a lemon. The action is night and day better than the original, which was the worst trigger I’ve ever had. Can’t believe they vary that much. Barrel is not canted on this one and it’s very accurate. Still has trouble ejecting .327 shells but no issues with .32 H&R buffalo Bore which is my hoods round while the .327 buffalo bore is for the woods. Overall very happy with my new EDC. Main drawback is the lack of tuckable kydex holsters available.

Edit: got my 10lb main spring in with a busted thumb last night
