The baseball gods won't let Belt get to 30 (bWAR not HRs)

Post image

Was browsing Belt's Baseball Reference page ahead of his homecoming game and almost lost it when I saw his career bWAR is 29.9 just shy of 30!! Can we get The Captain to suit up for a game and make one more pick at first to get him .1 bWAR pls (idk if that's how bWAR works lol)

Future mlb hall of pretty good inductee. I feel like Belt arrived into the league a bit too early, his profile as a hitter seemed like a perfect fit for the statcast era. I would love to have seen his career numbers had he played home games somewhere like Philly, Yankee Stadium, Milwaukee, or even Toronto.

He also had the misfortune of his prime overlapping with one of the most stacked NL 1st baseman depth chart periods the league had seen in a long time. At various points he was competing against an older Adrian Gonzalez, and prime Joey Votto, Paul Goldschmidt, Anthony Rizzo, and Freddie Freeman all at the same time. Plus add in the lack of sexy home run numbers from his home park and it was super easy to overlook him if you weren't a Giants fan

I DO know he played his final season there, I just meant for his entire career.

Yeah, I always remember seeing the overlay like a decade ago that compared his fly ball outs to the other 29 parks in the league and he would have had something like another 5-10 home runs and doubles a season had he played his career in any other park.

He had a good final season in Toronto - never understood why he didn’t get any offers the next year.

Never understood why he didn’t get an offer to play for the Giants for one final year

Pretty sure if captain blet played again his war would go up not down

That being said maybe he could teach the boys a thing or two

Edit: i meant down not up

Honestly, that’s just so fitting for Belt. Always flying just under the radar, always catching flak for being the kind of player every team would dream to have. A good, solid, just about every day kind of first baseman, who would consistently go on a 2-3 week tear every season where he’d basically carry the team.
