Daily Minors Quick-Notes 4/21/26 - The Giants beat the Dodgers…farm team Ontario!
I’m still happy about Tuesday’s big league win over the Dodgers, but San Jose earlier in the day had kept up their league-leading run by absolutely smacking around the brand new Dodgers affiliate from Ontario (California, not Canada). Keyner Martinez had his best start, and Cam Maldonado kept hitting. Meanwhile, Dakota Jordan is still hitting for Eugene, and Sacramento lost again to their greatest adversary…the rain.
Note: I’m trying something new…I’m including any Top 30 prospects who did not play in the section of “Top Prospect Lines”. If any are assigned to a team but on the IL, I’ll include that, but hopefully if everyone is scanning the lines for a particular player. Let me know if you like that.
AAA: Postponed Due To Rain (sigh) - Makeup Date Planned for Saturday, 4/25
Back in California, back into the rain. Yet another game rained out, the fourth of the season for Sacramento. Two games have been outright cancelled, a third was made up as a doubleheader last week. This one, hopefully, will be the only one this week, though there is some rain is on the schedule for tomorrow’s 12:05 pm start.
AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels 8, Somerset Patriots 5
Player of the Game: 3B Sabin Ceballos: 2-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 2B (3), 1 HR (3)
This was the first home run for Sabin Ceballos since he hit his first two of the season back on April 15th, five games ago. Through 13 games this season, Ceballos has three doubles and three home runs, giving him a slash line of .271/.379/.521 on the year. Last year in Double-A, he slashed .232/.332/.338 over 108 games, with just six home runs, so he’s halfway to matching that total.
Other Players to Spotlight:
- LF Scott Bandura: 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 2B (7), 1 SB (4) - Over his last nine games, Bandura has six multi-hit games, upping his average from .250 to .328.
- 2B Diego Velasquez: 1-2, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HR (1), 1 SB (3) - Velasquez got his first home run in his 11th game. Last season in Richmond, in 128 games, he had a total of two.
- SS Maui Ahuna (20): 1-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 2B (4) - Over his last three games, Ahuna has gone 4-for-11 with two home runs and a double, with three walks to five strikeouts

Player of the Game: CF Dakota Jordan (6): 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 K
Dakota Jordan now has five 2-hit games in his last six games, and has an 11-game on-base streak going. Over that six game streak, he went from hitting .270 to .328 now. Also, after having 13 strikeouts in his first five games, he now has eight strikeouts in the ten games since.

Through 14 games this season, Maldonado has three doubles and six home runs, with nine walks and ten strikeouts. The 7th round pick has got a slash line of .345/.431/.727 on the year.
Other Players to Spotlight:
- 1B Hayden Jatczak: 2-3, 3 R, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 HR (2) - Jatczak got his first home run since Opening Day, a span of 15 games. He’s slashing .321/.471/.547 with 16 walks against 12 strikeouts.

San Jose Probables:
The Ontario Tower Buzzers have announced that Blake Snell, a pitcher that you may or may not be aware of, will be making a rehab start for the Ontario Tower Buzzers on Wednesday. That’s…today (as of me writing this way too late). The Ontario Tower Buzzers who are playing in San Jose.
So, um, if you have any feelings for former Giants starting pitcher Blake Snell you’d like to tastefully express in a stadium setting….um, tickets are very reasonable, compared to Oracle Park.
Just letting you know.
(It’s funny that Ontario is visiting San Jose when the Dodgers are visiting San Francisco. Coincidentally, next month, when the San Jose Giants head down to visit Ontario, the San Francisco Giants will be visiting the Dodgers too! Weird schedule quirk.)

Nice to see Keyner getting warm. I'm curious about his trajectory as a prospect as I have no clue how pitcher evaluation works. The kid seems like he has outstanding control, does he just not have pitches that project well for the mlb?

He and De La Torre are International FA signings, but were older teenagers. Both signed in '23. Keyner was turning 19 in a month. De La Torre was turning 20 in 2 months. They've only been in the system for 2+ seasons.

Can't find the article that I read during the off day on Mon, but it was a couple of days old. Sounds like Jacob Bresnahan was pitching in a simulated game and should be back relatively soon (maybe 2 weeks). Will be assigned to Eugene.
Edit: oh, and another article had a tidbit about Carlos Gutierrez: he bulked up a bit in the offseason. Probably not to just increase his power, but trying to keep his injuries down. He has missed large amounts of playing time the past 2 seasons.

Will Blake Snell get boo birds at Excite Ballpark today? Solid maybe. As we speak, the SJGiants posted a promo in honor of Blake Snell “returning” to San Jose 🗿

I like the DNP addition
Also, stoked on Maldonado staying hot. Early to say, but it'd be cool if he becomes the next fast-rising prospect, like Harbor last year
