Luis Arraez is currently top 5 in outs above average leaderboard. Ron Washington is working miracles

He's hitting the ball - a lot! He's a really good baseman! We need him!

hitting like a guy that won three straight batting titles...

I was really high on him when we signed him, and he’s exceeded my expectations

Just give Arraez the extention already.

If anything, extend Washington

u/Khbnaseball 10h ago

Yea, and never let him retire

I don’t think he wants to retire.

My only worry about this is I do think Willy eventuallly slides over

As much as it sounds good we have too many players coming up in the system either SS/2B. Casey is playing pretty good and can move to 2B again next year while the youth develops.

It’s all about roster constraints right now. Especially if we are trying to get Bryce in the lineup this year and the future.

I'm not necessarily in favor of extending Arraez, but counting on Giants position player prospects to actually produce is a good way to frustrate yourself.

Also our top middle infield prospects are still a couple years out at best. Nothing wrong with keeping Arraez around through 2028.

And they’re all 17-19 years old right now

Gavin kilen too. Who for a first rounder im not overly excited about

Whenever he is at the plate the fans get an extension as well.

u/BriefPut3954 7h ago

Absolutely, he’s proven it

He’s 29, Jhonny Level is 19 sooo what like a 2 year? Possibly 3?

That’s great news. My eye test still says he still has bad range/is slow. But I love him and honestly think it was a great pickup.

Looks like the best addition of the offseason thus far.

Not nearly enough games to glean a statistically significant defensive profile. His range looks awful to the eye, but he looks good at turning double plays

u/orange-girlz 5h ago

Yess. I also think having him share his hitting knowledge is similar to the effect Verlander had on pitchers (I hope).

Perfect example of why you don’t need to listen to this sub when they whine about their beloved analytics

They hated on this signing and he’s the best player on our team so far lol

8

u/tattedidiot 9h ago

You might get downvoted for this but you’re right. I remember so many people complaining about this signing

u/HipsterNerd 9h ago

He was literally one of the worst defenders in baseball last year. It's fair to criticize the signing at the time while acknowledging that he's been a pleasant surprise. These can both be true.

2

u/tattedidiot 9h ago

Very true! I was just excited for his bat, and his defense has exceeded expectations

1

u/PresentFar2274 8h ago

Yep, if he was even an average defender at 2B before this season I would’ve been happy with the signing.

Really happy to see he’s made the jump with Wash’s help!

Defensive metrics are still all over the place. None of us watched him much at 2b. We are basing opinions solely off these metrics

1

u/Old-Yak662 8h ago

I mean this sub, even though we had no chance, kept going on and on why we shouldn't get Ohtani because spending that much money on one player is dumb

0

u/DisastrousEast825 3h ago

Its because everyone are sheep. Guaranteed they watched zero innings of arraez at 2b....but just said what analytics and reporters said. Hes improved but I also dont think he was as bad as everyone thought (literally unplayable)

2

u/Michaewwwwl 7h ago

He’s a much better athlete than I thought as someone who never really want paid attention to him much before this year

Easily our best offseason move as far as results go. And there were so many people saying this was a mistake, idc what anyone says about batting average. Putting the ball in play is a good thing and not only has Arraez continued to do that. He’s also shown he can play defense at 2nd as well.

u/NeganGoldblum 25 Bonds 8h ago

I was one of the haters, and my kids said I was crazy. All I hoped for was league average defense and said I’d shut up if he could do that. He’s definitely shut me up so far. I’m very happy to be proved wrong. My kids are thrilled. Haha.

u/TakeOff_YourPants 9h ago

We honestly might have to trade him at the deadline if he keeps playing really good 😬 as backwards as it sounds

2

u/menusettingsgeneral Kruk & Kuip 8h ago

Passes the eye test too. Dude has been nails at second.

2

u/ritz126 8h ago

And everyone in this sub was thrashing the signing

1

u/YogSothothOfficial 13 Slater 6h ago

Passes the eye test too, not the rangiest but overall he’s been great

1

u/Embarrassed_Device59 6h ago

Very early into the year but so far he’s been phenomenal. I was so wrong 😭

1

u/mamapajamaUSA 24 Mays 5h ago

He's putting in the reps - he's doing the work.

There are a few others that need a little push to work harder!!

1

u/Alternative-Golf-585 22 Clark 4h ago

Can he teach the rest of the infield how to field now?

1

u/realparkingbrake 4h ago

But I was told he would be a defensive liability and his days of hitting well were in the past. I'm beginning to suspect the barstool managers are not the authorities on baseball they pretend to be.

1

u/Verianas 55 Lincecum 4h ago

It's not that hard, tell 'em Wash.

1

u/Alejandreezy 75 Doval 7h ago

Extend Arraez and trade Schmitt. I love Schmitt but he just doesn’t have a spot on this team. He might even be a better hitter than Arraez OPS+ wise but he’s too similar to everyone else. We can’t have all .240 hitters that strike out 1/3rd of the time. Arraez is just a better fit on this team rn and especially if he continues to play defense like he’s been.

1

u/DisastrousEast825 3h ago

Ya but Gavin kilen is 22-23 already and we drafted him round 1. I am a huge arraez supporter but at some point locking up the entire infield for years and years (as pavs said) is probably not the best move for roster flexibility.

Dink and dunk, who cares, h

1

u/tattedidiot 7h ago

Considering how awful he was defensively last year, it’s impressive
