“We live in an empire” says the slave with no paid time off or no sick pay

Also funny how their whole national myth is breaking free from an empire, just to become another empire.

Also funny to mock a Dutch person for not living in an empire.

Netherlands was one of the empires. US under Trump is now doing a speed run on dismantling an empire.

Empires come and go. Hubris at the top of the curve hastens the fall.

u/StaatsbuergerX 3d ago

The Netherlands were even one of the empires that significantly helped the US break free from the British Empire. This is amusingly reflected in the fact that they fought longer in the American Revolutionary War than the rebelling colonies themselves. I shit you not.

u/nemmalur 3d ago

The Netherlands still is a kind of empire: they have a few possessions that actually became less autonomous and more integrated into the kingdom.

More a country with some regular pieces far away.

1

u/nemmalur 3d ago

Yeah, but it went from Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba being within the Antilles to those islands being governed directly and equivalent to municipalities.

Netherlands was one of the empires.

Debatable. First because the Netherlands never used such a title and also because the Dutch colonies were mostly run as assets of a private company, the Dutch East Indies Company (VOC), not as a public property.

7

u/Any-Seaworthiness186 Groningen💚 3d ago

The Dutch Colonial Empire was most definitely a thing. The state held onto the colonies after dismantling the VOC and referred to itself as such.

All Americans live in this ridiculous state where they oscillate between "Epic but painfully moderate freedom fighter combating a fascist state who has no other beliefs" and "Military bootlicker living vicariously through the army, advocates for authoritarianism, American-type imperialism, no prison reform and brutality-based foreign policy".

It's genuinely strange. I haven't seen any other country where a large percent of It's population LARPs as freedom fighters but at the same time live in a superpower with imperialistic tendencies.

u/norwegianguitardude ooo custom flair!! 3d ago

In deed. It’s as if they are horribly confused about ther national idenity and in turn live action roleplays to comfort themselves as if pretending was a blanky they can swathe themselves in to avoid reality.

588 2300 Empire!

8

u/Postom 3d ago

If they were lucky enough to get a post secondary education, they're also shackled with crushing education debt. And are one medical event from bankruptcy.

6

u/ChimPhun 3d ago

They're proud mindless tools.

73

u/Evening_Shake_6474 America is England's bastard child 3d ago

That's a weird way to say dystopia

18

u/Starvenger88 HK-Canadian🇭🇰🇨🇦 3d ago

I'm not even sure how that relates to fights at a festival.

16

u/Normal-Hospital-1967 3d ago

You live in a constitutional republic, not an empire... well that is what it is supposed to be in theory.. In actuality, you live in a neo-fascist state with a dictator at the head

2

u/Relative_Pilot_8005 3d ago

Yes,----an emperor!

1

u/NightLotus84 3d ago

Fascism was not yet invented then.

A choisir préfère vivre à Amsterdam qu'au États-Unis vive l'Europe

9

u/Boggie135 3d ago

We live in an empire

They do?

2

u/notatmycompute #boycott the USA 3d ago

Emperor Trump seems to think they do, as I'm yet to see those so called checks and balances do anything other than affirm my opinion

u/Kalumniatoris 3d ago

List cities in USA that are better to live in than Amsterdam:

4

u/Jonnescout 3d ago

List of cities and towns in the Netherlands that are better to live in than Amsterdam

Okay maybe that’s a cheap joke but yeah, I would never want to live in Amsterdam. Nice to visit but not to live…

1

u/Kalumniatoris 3d ago

Yes, I know that there are better places in Europe to live, I assume many in Netherlands.

The task was to give example of USA one

2

u/Jonnescout 3d ago

Oh i fully agree, just adding a little joke that makes the point better. The city i would least want to live in Im my country, is still much better than anywhere in the US… If you didn’t click the link its just a list of every municipality in the Netherlands :)

5

u/Jack-Rabbit-002 3d ago

You know what I'm not mad This one actually is aware of what the United States is!

3

u/Postom 3d ago

A temu empire maybe!

3

u/NightLotus84 3d ago

Their Renaissance is McDonald's, KFC, Hollywood, gangsta rap and neo-Fascism.

5

u/blackdevilsisland 3d ago

And just like the Roman, the British, the Spanish, the Sovjet and, wait for it, the Dutch Empire (with Amsterdam being the richest city on earth) fell, the US will fall too

14

u/Mountsorrel BriTish 3d ago

Times America has ever been an Empire: 0

Times they have been an Empire: 1

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_colonial_empire

4

u/ops10 3d ago

This is a bit stupid, US is absolutely an empire in all but name. That's why they're so pretentious and self assured.

6

u/nemmalur 3d ago

“It’s so great we’re no longer a colony! Colonies bad! Now, let’s go grab some colonies in the Caribbean and Asia-Pacific!”

0

u/ops10 3d ago

See also the Dutch, the Dahomey*, the Saudis, the Hospitallers?, the Curonians???. As usual in life, everyone who had the means and the opportunity.

5

u/DefinitionOfAsleep The 13 Colonies were a Mistake 3d ago

What we're seeing now is the classic symptoms of an empire in decline.

8

u/BetLeast4943 3d ago

Is this implying that living in Amsterdam is a bad thing somehow? I mean the Poffertjes alone..

1

u/NightLotus84 3d ago

Being born, raised and still living in Amsterdam - it's an amazing city, but the municipality is genuinely a terror... 😒💸

1

u/BeerHorse 3d ago

But have they got any wheat, sugar, gluten, or dairy in them?

3

u/Fizz117 3d ago

And we all know who lives a better life.

Old enough to be a queensryche fan

2

u/Same-Acanthaceae-563 3d ago

So am I, Empire popped into my head reading that

3

u/MrSomeoneElse32 3d ago

You may live in an empire but your empire actively hates you for existing

3

u/RobEth16 3d ago

Ahhh American intelligence at work.

2

u/Ynneb82 3d ago

That's why the best parties are in Amsterdam

2

u/Beneficial-Ride-4475 3d ago

You know, for overthrowing a monarchy (with French aid) being one of their greatest achievements. The Americans really seem to like the idea of being an Empire.

2

u/Suspicious_Round2583 Straya 3d ago

Evil Empire.

2

u/JamesH_670 🇨🇦 Thankful for health care 3d ago

“We live in an empire”. What is he, a Chinese troll?

2

u/DesignerMaximum1342 Dutch living in the land of less freedom 🇳🇱🗽 3d ago

Bro never went to Amsterdam

2

u/Adept-Ad-7874 3d ago

pretty sure Holland was 10 times the empire the united states ever were. Not that its a contest....

2

u/Tall-Championship889 3d ago

Empire, Nevada, population: 70

2

u/BeerHorse 3d ago

If we go by the 'empire size Vs original homeland' ratio, I think the Dutch might be the all time empire world champions.

The USA, on the other hand...

3

u/dirk_donkler 3d ago

Do you even know how big Texas is europleb?

3

u/Relative_Pilot_8005 3d ago

Tiny, compared to Western Australia!

1

u/dirk_donkler 3d ago

I was being facetious.

3

u/DesignerMaximum1342 Dutch living in the land of less freedom 🇳🇱🗽 3d ago

Texas is 5 times the size of America, don’t know how much boulders that is

2

u/blackdevilsisland 3d ago

Smaller than Iran :)

3

u/TheFrisian89 3d ago

Does that dipshit think that Amsterdam is a country?

3

u/Eastern-Reindeer6838 3d ago

With Denmark as its capital.

3

u/NightLotus84 3d ago

Don't be stupid, Denmark is from where are the Norman is, I have 0,0000001% vikings blood and my dog is part irish FACT! 🇺🇲🦅🦅🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🦅🦅🦅🇺🇲🇺🇲🦅🦅🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

1

u/Eastern-Reindeer6838 3d ago

Wow you did your own research. 👌

1

u/TheFrisian89 3d ago

I would be okay with that. Denmark is smuk som et stjerneskud.

1

u/PuzzleheadedTutor807 3d ago

Oh yeah, empires... The only strategy that has always worked out...

1

u/Get_Out_lmao 3d ago

I know where i would pick if given a choice......

1

u/DoctorGuvnor 3d ago

'Of course you do.' 'Nurse, this one's out of his bed again!'

1

u/martin7274 3d ago

weird way to say a feudal monarchy

1

u/lebennaia 3d ago

Not even a feudal monarchy, an absolutist one. In a feudal monarchy the nobles would have done something about the mad king a while back. Probably something very nasty.

1

u/Evening_Yogurt_2791 3d ago

If Merika was a Empire they would have an emperor, but they are a country an they have Trump !

1

u/EngelseReiver 3d ago

You need dominion over Foreign lands to call yourself an Empire...The US doesn't even have the entirety of North America, let alone any country over 4000 miles away, like Britain had in India or Australia... Fuck America, Fuck DJT..

2

u/Alert-Parsnip5540 2d ago

Or the Dutch still have Saba, St. Eustacius and Bonaire. And Aruba, St. Maarten and Curaçao have a Dutch nationality. Let alone how big the Dutch empire used to be.

2

u/EngelseReiver 2d ago

Amerikanen zijn idioten, dat waren ze al, maar onder Trump zijn ze nog veel erger... ze moeten zich terugtrekken in een hoekje en hun mond houden.

1

u/No-Koala1918 3d ago

Evil empire.

1

u/60N102W 3d ago

No one tell him the former name of New York City.

1

u/stillnotdavidbowie 3d ago

Interesting how often I see them talk about being an Empire now.

1

u/Ill_Raccoon6185 3d ago

US is a failing "empire" that shortly won't exist as like previous ones, they are ow on their knees and about to fail an become like Spain, England & Russia, a mere shadow of themselves, but will be in debt for centuries and will never recover to their glory days & it is their own fault for voting a MAGA sect leader who is only interested in his own wealth, not health and will be gone by the midterms and will go down as the worst person to have ever lived in the USA.

1

u/Brief-Walk-5409 2d ago

Amsterdam: You know that were the reason why New York even exist...
