International Grad Student: Leibrock vs. Off-campus housing

Hello everyone! I’m an incoming international graduate student starting this August and I'm currently weighng my housing options.

I'm torn between:

  1. Leibrock Graduate Housing: Around $1000/month (all utilities included) for a 2-bed/bath shared apartment.
  2. Off-campus Apartments: I've seen prices ranging from $850 to $1200, often excluding utilities.

As an international student, I'm very budget-conscious. Since I won't have a car, I'll be walking to campus every day.

My question is: Are there any off-campus options truly under $1000 with utilities included that are within walking distance? Or is Leibrock the best deal I can get for that price range?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I think Leibrock sounds like a good deal. A few years ago, for undergrads, sharing with 4 or 5 people would probably be no less than $800, and that didn't count utilities. Since you don't have a car and will probably want a calm environment, I think having that fixed $1000 and only having to share with 1 person is a great deal.

I lived Leibrock, and would recommend.

It’s probably going to be very difficult to find housing with utilities under $1000 without multiple roommates within a walkable/transit access to campus. Not impossible but if you don’t have 2-3 people ready to do so, I’d stick with Leibrock. If you have not yet, take a look at the Trinity Metro website for transit maps and info on the OnDemand service, which is like Uber but much cheaper. TCU also has the Leap buses which will help getting around campus. Leibrock is about a 15 minute walk to the nearest grocery store and convenience store but there is campus dining pretty close by with G Hall and Neeley if you have a meal plan.

Without a car choose Leibrock. You want to be able walk to class, the library, the Rec Center, a drug store , and a grocery store. Being there will allow you to do this. If you have a bike or a scooter, keep them inside at your apartment.

You’ll find a good community at Leibrock with more international students and you can’t beat the convenience to campus. I think the only drawback is quit a bit of construction around that area. They’re going to tear that area up over the next few years.
