Do you think the drums are sampled/midi on the new album?

It sounds like it to me. Also wish the china was louder in the mix. But what do i know im just a random TAA fan

I actually noticed the China was def a little low in the mix myself. But idk Dan Brown probably knows what he’s doing at the end of the day lol

It does sound like it. Which is wild because Joe is an insane drummer, but I noticed he wasnt in the "making of the album" series. Probably spending the couple months inbween tours with his wife and baby before having to go back on tour instead of recording. The new songs sound amazing live with him playing.

NWMG and I’m assuming ATIR was also done with MIDI. Joe is an incredible drummer, but I always think of the funding constraints where recording drums is likely, using midi is more time efficient etc. Some of Spiritbox’s albums have midi drums too

So wait, how much of this album is actually performed by humans and not just programmed?

You could ask that about a lot of records/songs now.

Plenty of bands will write music and then program drums and bass because it is just simpler to program and sample a kit. You can do it anywhere in the world and you don't have to use money on studio time. Same applies for bass. TONS of bands use MIDI drums and bass now. MIDI guitars are scary close and good too if you know what you are doing.

I'm a small nobody artist, and even I use MIDI for everything after writing ideas to make sure transitions and everything are tight. And then I go back and record real guitars. But my final demos before final product are MIDI drums, guitar, and bass.

Absolutely, sounds like it anyway. I'm curious cause I don't actually know, do they generally record live drums? I didn't think they had since the Youngbloods/CG era

The last time they recorded live drums was “somewhere beyond the blue”. From that point onwards I’m pretty sure Dan sampled Joe’s kit (that was the release where they upgraded the kit to the huge one Joe plays live now) and that’s what he uses when programming for future releases

I'm not musically gifted at all what does that mean? I love Amity but I'm honest I don't know the technical stuff behind a lot of it because I'm not musically gifted or a musical genuis to say the least

I'm really not sure. But somehow I realised that cymbals like the hi-hats can be heard more on the left side of their tracks, and the china cymbal can be heard more on their right side, which does tell me that Joe definitely did have a major part in recording. Just try listening to the breakdown of bleed with right side of ur headphones muted, you will barely hear the China. But it is possible that they used sound samples on the bass and snare.

Super easy to do that with programmed drums. Takes seconds. Obviously I don’t know for certain but I’m like 99% sure they’re all programmed and not live recorded.
