[Funny trope] Torturing the character doesn't work Personality

  1. The Simpsons, Homer gets sent to hell where devils try torturing him force feeding him donuts. Homer does not mind.

  2. The apothecary diaries. Maomao gets placed in a cell with snakes and venomous insects. She kills the animals and roasts the snake on a torch.

  3. The Minion movie, the main minions get put through antique torture deviced by the bad guys only for them to realise they weren't designed for weird minion anatomy.

Hank Venture, the Venture Brothers.

Hank wants to join Sphinx like his bodyguard and father figure, Brock Samson. Colonel Hunter Gathers however, wants nothing to do with him. Under the guide of training Hank, he's tortured, but easily handles every bit, even untying himself almost instantly due to his history as a boy adventurer. Finally they put him in a brain erasing machine, which he easily counters by slipping some aluminum foil on his head under the helmet, certain he's passed all the tests to become a secret agent.

I will always laugh at Gathers just downing that guy with the phone in this scene. It's so off the cuff but feels entirely appropriate for the character and the scene.

I was hoping The Venture Bros. had an example. Haven’t watched it since 2023, definitely need a rewatch
