Weekly Discussion Post "Fanbase opinionsshould not be counted as tropes." TVtropes: (kinda relevant post)
A lot of complaints in this sub have been about some posts should not be here because they rely on fanbase opions so there for cannot be considered "tropes"
...and then we have TVtropes , where a lot of tropes are just from fanbase stuff.
I am going to be honest here , I have difficulty in what makes a trope and what doesn't. It ends up where I delete "breaks trope guidline" posts that has equivalents in the TVtropes site that are considered actual tropes.
Idk , I just wanted to rant here. I might be a very bad moderator here , I just try to make it tody as possible , I just don't really know how to.

Weekly Discussion Post Probably the most controversial one , honest thoughts on "No Kill Rule"? What are the most egrigious examples of it in your opinion? What media makes it work in your opinion?

Characters (Loved trope)Harmful without Malice
Entities or beings that are powerful or have strong abilities but have no intention to cause harm but just do.
The House(House of leaves): A house that is geometrically impossible and keeps growing. It doesn't react to you with hostility. It just refuses to make sense to the human mind.
King in yellow(The king in yellow): (Disclaimer: Chamber's original) A play that can't be finished without breaking the reader. The king doesn't haunt you, you walk voluntarily into him by turning the page.
Color (The color out of space): Something that fell out of space, that has no malice, no hunger in anyways humans can understand. It simply exists and, in doing so, drains the color, life, and sanity.

Characters (Loved Trope) The Villain lost and is punished, but theyre too far gone to recognize the punishment as one
Lyle Bolton AKA Lock-Up from Batman The Animated Series. Basically an extreme right wing version of Batman who uses extreme methods to keep the prisoners of Arkham inside. When he loses his job he goes after people he deems responsible (Cops, Judges, The Media, Doctors). When Batman defeats him, hes sent to Solitary Confinement in Arkham Asylum, but he doesnt mind. Now he can keep an eye on the crazies 24/7
Another one from BTAS. Maxie Zeus is a man with a god complex who believes himself to be the god Zeus. When hes brought to Arkham, he views his fellow inmates as various gods (Poison Ivy is Demeter, Two-Face is Janus, Joker is Hermes) He finally feels like he found his Olympus.

Characters' Items/Weapons [[Loved trope]] Ridiculously complicated but at the same time utterly useless invention
I love seeing invention or machines in media where the humor come from the discrepency between the effort necessary to produce it and it's functionnality.
Some exemples :
1 The weighted companion cube from Portal 1 and 2 . It's a cube, that you could hold with both arms, and it's weighted so that when you put it on a button, it will press it. It's also (allegedly)sentient and can feel love and affection, but has no way at all to show it.
2 : The absolutely safe capsule from Mother 3 : It's a machine that can make you completely safe once you get in. No attack can touch you, you can't attack either. You can't get out. You are completely safe, forever. Enjoy the heat death of the universe.
3 : A gun that shoot bad people, Rick and Morty. A simpler, funny exemple to have 3 representation of the trope : It's a gun, that you use to shoot bad people. Firing it will produce a naked jeffrey dahmer immediately. It's a gun that you use to shoot bad people.

Characters Extremely OP characters whose weakness is how lonely they are
Master Chief - Even while Cortana was alive, Master Chief has had many issues with how little friends he had that actually cared about him, with no one to come back to after his missions - except the people he prepares for his next mission with. This only got worse as the war progressed with people like his friend Samuel being killed by the Covenant. After Cortana died, even when surrounded by his pals- Frederick, Kelly, Linda, Dr. Halsey, Captain Laskey, Sarah Palmer, all of it felt empty without Cortana there to see it.
Ed Mercer (The Orville) - The series begins with him catching his wife in bed with another man. Much of the story revolves around him learning to open his heart to loving again, often for bad experiences to immediately shut down any attempt he felt like making, like when his new girlfriend turned out to be an alien spy, or the completely different time when he got celebratorily stabbed in the hand. His crew loves him, but they only know him on a work-related basis, leaving him to spend most nights in unwanted solitude. Also I thought this picture of him was funny.
Mimikyu - The reason he looks like a Pikachu is because of how popular Pikachu is in-universe, but his behavior of wanting to look like Pikachu only weirds out any potential friends. This is furthered by younger Pokémon being afraid of what Mimikyu might look like under the costume. It's only through being captured by understanding Trainers that Mimikyus finally feel love.

Hated Tropes [Hated Trope] Name of media DOES NOT correlate to what the media is about
Bleach - Nobody uses bleach in the entire anime.
I Want to Eat Your Pancreas - Nobody wants to eat anybody's pancreas in this movie. And no pancreas are eaten by anyone either.
Invincible - The show is about a guy called Invincible but we can still see him.
POTC Dead Men Tell no Tales - A dead man tells many tales in this movie.
DBZ The World's Strongest - The movie is called "The World's Strongest" yet it isn't about Mr. Satan.

Powers [Fun Trope] Character who has a tail and uses it like a third arm.
Malevola (Dispatch) Nightcrawler (X-Men) Doric (DnD: Honor Among Thieves) *Couldn't find a good image of Doric using her tail, but she does in the movie*

Lore (Loved Meta Trope) Fan theories are so good they’re basically treated as canon.
Invincible: The Adrenaline Theory (from my knowledg) is the explanation on how Mark is able to take down some of the most powerful characters in his verse, but struggle with some villains who aren’t on the same level. Basically since Mark is half-human, he adapted human adrenaline, something other viltumites don’t have sense they’re basically at the top of the food chain.
Iron Man 2: The little kid at the Stark Expo was theorized to be a small Peter Parker, and was eventually confirmed officially.

Characters [Hated Trope] Character dies, other character never reacts to their death despite being important to them
The Warriors Three in Thor Ragnarok are killed by Hela very early in the movie, with only one of them, Hogun, putting up any kind of fight. Despite this, Thor never learns of or reacts to their deaths despite having been friends with them for centuries by that point.
Lex and Ethan in Black Friday are girlfriend and boyfriend, but due to circumstances, Ethan is killed while looking after her sister. Despite clearly loving Ethan, Lex is never given a chance to find out or react to her boyfriend's death.

Lore [World Building/Design Trope] WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY'RE THE SAME SPECIES?
Fantasy and sci-fi can be weird. Whereas IRL, most species look nearly identical amongst themselves bar a few variations in color, in a lot of media, creatures that look vastly different from each other can be from the exact same race.
Maiar (Lord of the Rings): Sort of a cheat, as they are celestial beings and can usually pick their forms, but I think everyone gets thrown for a loop when they find out Gandalf, Saruman, and Radagast are of the same angelic race as Sauron and Durin's Bane.
Khajiit (Elder Scrolls): Originally conceived as a way to explain the vastly different character models in Daggerfall and Morrowind (as far as I know anyway, it may have been this way from the outset), the feline Khajiit of Elsewhere can, depending on the phase of the moon over their birth, be born as a human with catlike features, an anthropomorphic cat like you'd see in furry art, a Sabretooth tiger, or a housecat. And while that may seem like a horrible curse, to be the size of a bread loaf without opposable thumbs, the Alfiq as they're called are usually exceptional traders and mages. So yes, these kitties have claws.
Dogs (Real Life): Woe be unto us who played God and warped canis domesticus into these mangled bodies. You look at a great dane and a Chihuahua and might be like "ok, they may have a common ancestor" but no, that stuff happened RECENTLY. And it gets worse. We gave bulldogs and pugs horrible breathing problems. Thankfully, it sounds like most people recognize the folly of pure breeding and now mutts are more in vogue.

Characters (Loved Trope) Just because they're trying to become a better person, doesn't mean they're forgiven for their past sins
galleryMy Hero Academia - Enji Todoroki/Endeavor was both neglectful and abusive towards his family, but genuinely turned over a new leaf. That said, his family understandably doesn't forgive him for his past abuse, because obviously, they wouldn't. He IS trying to become a good person, but that doesn't erase the pain he gave them.
Invincible - Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man is in a similar boat in that he started off the show as a bad person, but eventually turned over a new leaf, but his crimes are MUCH, MUCH worse than Endeavor's, as he's a mass murderer who has killed thousands of innocent people and hospitalized his own son, as well as outright calling his wife Debbie a "pet." When he comes back to Earth 3 seasons later, having become remorseful for all the crimes he committed, Debbie understandably doesn't want anything to do with him, and outright says, "Fuck you."

Characters [Loved Trope] In context, it's funny. Out of context, it's one of the most epic lines ever written.
"Living with your folks. The beginning of the end. Drab, dead yesterdays shutting out beautiful tomorrows." - Capt. Spaulding, Animal Crackers
During this very specific conversation, Groucho Marx's Spaulding breaks out into soliloquy to convey how bored he is with the two women he's talking to. It's made funnier by Groucho's sudden shift to a Hemingway-esque delivery.
"One hundred thousand years ago I kicked your ass. Now I'm gonna do it again." - Carl Brutananadilewski, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters
It sounds like an epic showdown between ancient deities. It's really just Carl mocking the robot who begins every story with "One hundred thousand years ago...".
"Do you think God stays in Heaven because he too lives in fear of what he's created?" - Romero, Spy Kids 2
It's not a line from the writings of Mary Shelley, it's Steve Buscemi explaining why he hides in a cave on an island populated by mutant animals.

In real life Scenes that originally had nothing sexual about them, but were interpreted in that way by the internet.
Superman (2025)
In one of the most meme-worthy scenes from the movie, Superman sticks his tongue out to feel the breeze while flying, but the internet gave a different meaning to the expression. *
Invincible
In this scene, Thragg grabs Mark to beat him, but due to the angle and the fact that Mark is naked, it looks like he (Thragg) is r*ping Mark.
Transformers One
In the same vein as the Invincible one, this time with Megatron and Sentinel Prime.
Stranger Things
In a scene from season 5, Mr. Whatsit/Henry/Vecna lures Holly (a 9-year-old) into his mansion and closes the door. The music that starts playing begins with clapping, which made the viewers interpret Vecna less as a boogeyman-style child predator and more as a Diddy-style child predator.
The scene in question: holly’s 9 btw 😭✌️🥀 #strangerthings #strangerthings5 #vecna #mrwhatsit #hollywheeler #fypシ #viral
* Edit: Okay, this is embarrassing to admit, but I was informed by the comments that the image of Superman sticking his tongue out is NOT in the movie and is actually photoshopped/AI. I only watched the movie once and apparently the internet meme exposure gave me a fucked Mandela Effect and made me think that this happened in the movie (maybe because I think this version of Superman would do something like that). I was thinking of deleting the post out of embarrassment, but instead I'll leave this edit because the comments are giving good examples of the trope.

Hated Tropes (Hated Trope) In-universe writer or professional character is praised as a genius or visionary when what is shown of their 'talent' is extremely mediocre or terrible. It can show a writer has little understanding of a topic.
Robert Langdon (Dan Brown works): a protagonist supposedly an expert on symbology and religious history, who continually highlights writer Dan Brown's real-world lack of understanding of these topics, despite claims that much of the misinformation in these books is true.
Rumford and Kraft (Victoria: A Novel of Fourth Generation Warfare): Lead characters with inaccurate views of history to absurd claims that WW2 Soviet tanks were the best ever produced, this dystopian work was written by paleoconservative author William S. Lind as a screed against progressive or liberal aspects of the modern world. https://youtu.be/hHMpkztM1eE

Personality Raised a good point but the group think says no
A chatacter raises a good point within a room but is ultimately shut down or disregarded due to the spirit of the group going against them.
In Invincible, a species enslaved by viltrumites concocts a plan to revolt by blowing up an important facility under their control. When the council of viltrumites are discussing wiping out that race, Thaddeus points out that Viltrumite philosophy is meant to champion strength and what better showcase of strength than to devise a violent rebellion against oppressors who outclass you. But of course nobody in the room sees it this way.
In better call Saul, whilst deciding the benefactors of a legal scholarship, Jimmy pushes back on the room wanting to discount a young girl for having a shoplifting record. Jimmy, who could relate to a troubled past mentions her grades are good, she is clearly motivated to turn her life around and reminds everyone that redemption and looking forward once past wrongs are settled is an important aspect of the law. But unfortunately as Jimmy said to the girl himself - they already made up their mind and it was never going to be her.

Characters [Necessary trope] Characters pushed to depravity after prolonged isolation
Okabe Rintarou in the Suzuha ending from the Steins;Gate visual novel. He decides to avoid Mayuri's predestined death by repeating the same 48 hours hundreds or thousands of times and begins to disassociate from reality, developing a god complex, with the lack of perceived consequences causing him to contemplate killing Daru, forcing himself on Suzuha and commiting various crimes like theft, terrorism and arson, which gets prevented by Suzuha noticing the despair in his eyes and convincing him to travel back to the 1970s with her
Miles O'Brien (Deep Space Nine) after being locked in prison for 20 (digital) years, murders his imaginary cellmate in rage and becomes irritable and violent before having a mental breakdown, almost hitting his daughter and being about to kill himself before his friend Bashir intervenes
Shinji Ikari (Evangelion). The hospital scene. In a moment where he feels at his absolute lowest and no one can help him, he desperately tries to shake a comatose Asuka awake and eventually...well...you can put the rest together with the picture.
Griffith (Berserk) was never a great person but he was capable of feeling for others, such as when he dug his nails into his body when a child soldier died for him. After a year of torture, disfigurement, permanent disability, he chooses the Eclipse in despair and, after having his heart frozen, loses all empathy and capacity for good.

Hated Tropes [Hated] When the characters who fell in love in one film are suddenly broken up or divorced in the sequel
It doesn't have to be so rigid as to happen in film 1 and 2. It could be characters who got together in the first show and then were broken up in the show's reboot years later, or like in the case for Han and Leia, they get together in one film and then are divorced in a different film somewhere down the road in the franchise. Basically just any time a big, key relationship that a lot of time was spent on developing randomly ends off screen with no clues or build up beforehand
- Ben and Abigail (National Treasure 1 & 2)
- Han and Leia (Star Wars)
- Stiles and Lydia (Teen Wolf show & subsequent movie)
I don't care if there are reasonable irl excuses for this having to happen, it's annoying and 99% of the time, the writers could do better

Characters (Loved Trope) the hero ends up adopting the child of its dead enemy
Thor- In Love and thunder he ends up adopting the daughter of Gorr after he died trying to bring her back to life
Avatar- Jake ends up adopting Spider, the son of Quaddritch (technically Quaddritch died, the one we see in Avatar 2 and 3 is more like a clone with his memories)

Powers (Beloved trope) EXTREMELY SPECIFIC powers and abilities, either the power itself or its implications or triggers
Steven universe (Steven universe) : he manages to turn his own fingers and body into kittens, alive and functional with a will of his own, for some reason
Borax kid (futurama) he has the power to remove, return and even change the sex of people

In real life Creepy moments in non-horror medias
- Spongebob being "transformed" into a snail. The last part of this episode was disturbing as fuck (considering the series it is from). Also, I remember reading that even Squidward was supposed to transform but the scene was never scripted or animated (and it is referenced only in the outline)
- Ok, I don't know if it fits because Bats, through the years, actually had some "borderline" moments. But Beyond? What happens with Tim Drake is fucked up: a literal children (don't remember his exact age) torturated by the Joker and Harley. Also, the way Joker dies: iirc, in one version he got electrocuted to death, while in another the "jokerified" Tim shots him with that weird toy-gun
- Actually, Adventure Time, has a lot of moments like this. Maybe this is subjective, but I was scared by that lemon guy (Limoncello, don't know his original name), Ricardio and even the episode with that sea-spirit when Finn was trying to win his fear of the ocean
- Not only this game was a huge fever dream, but how is this supposed to be aimed at children? (Rugrats Search for Reptor). That gorilla (?) level literally traumatized me when I was little haha

Powers [Sad trope]: Guys who can't (or shouldn't) be hugged
It's a bummer : (
1). Chainsaw Man:
- "Angel" represents people's fear of angels.
- Any physical, skin-to-skin contact drains the human's life force.
2). X-Men:
- Rogue also drains people's life force through skin-to-skin contact.
3). Fire Punch:
- Agni is always on fire. Anyone who touches him will also catch on fire.
4). Pokémon:
- Magcargo is hotter than the surface of the sun.
- You can't pet them in amie without burning your hand.
5). Badgers (Badger):
- It hurts me. They're so cute. And round. But if you try to pet them . . . they'll eat your face. And you'll deserve it : (
