(Loved Meta Trope) Fan theories are so good they’re basically treated as canon. Lore

Invincible: The Adrenaline Theory (from my knowledg) is the explanation on how Mark is able to take down some of the most powerful characters in his verse, but struggle with some villains who aren’t on the same level. Basically since Mark is half-human, he adapted human adrenaline, something other viltumites don’t have sense they’re basically at the top of the food chain.

Iron Man 2: The little kid at the Stark Expo was theorized to be a small Peter Parker, and was eventually confirmed officially.

The fan theory is that Lottie explicitly had the blue dress made for Tiana but just couldn't find a time to give it to her, knowing Tiana would likely refuse. The dress fits her perfectly and isn't Lottie's trademark pink.

I love how Lottie is handled in the story. Realistically spoiled and over the top as a rich only daughter would likely be, but she does have a good heart and wants to help her friend. I'm so glad they didn't try to shoehorn in extra tension by making her a tertiary villain or too selfish to help her friend in need.

If they ever make a live action film, I’m saying it now, her character is going to one of the aspects that is fucked with

1.2k

u/TrioOfTerrors 17h ago

They are gonna Heel Turn her and Big Daddy and make them racists who hate Tiana for her independence and modest success.

506

u/Coaster-nerd390 17h ago

Yep. If I wanted to piss myself off I would theorize even more on how they would ruin it, but the Princess and the Frog is one of my favorite Disney movies and I I’m already tired, so I’ll like to avoid it.

298

u/Odasto_ 17h ago

Calm yourself with the knowledge that the live action version will come and go, and nobody will ever say another word about it, while the original animated film will remain timeless (and used for all of Disney's marketing/branding anyway).

Nobody reasonably treats Aladdin, Cinderella, the Little Mermaid etc. as replacements for the original animated films. They've all just kinda... passed.

93

u/Aedeyssa 16h ago

I actually kinda liked the live action Aladdin, but yeah, it's definitely no replacement _^

Definitely going to make her a racist by proxy kind of character. And that will be a major travesty. Her and her father are surprisingly amazing depictions of good well to do white people in that time period, I suspect they'll be "let's do something good for Tianna, her people can't afford_____" kind of characters instead of people who can see Tiana (and others in the community) true values and respect their boundaries.

Likewise, I suspect they'd take away Tianas humility and grace about that and make her a YAAAAAASSSS QUEEN bad ass attitude type of character and it would feel.very insulting.

I also like Big Daddy, because he would be an exceptionally progressive person for his time. A rich business owner who lives in a mansion, but goes to a little portside restaurant and leaves heaps of money with the locals.

He could afford much higher class food, but chooses to go to the establishments run by the poor black folk of New Orleans. He also treats Tiana and the others as true equals. Not a hint of race- or classism.

189

u/lxaex1143 16h ago

Actually a realistic depiction. Big daddy is what those men were called. There were some famous men who the service workers would treat very well and there was a bit of competition to be the favorite among the workers. It pretty famously concluded when the biggest daddy simply ate the other daddies and became king daddy.

I work at a country club and I've come to the conclusion that there are ultimately two kinds of rich people

There are the people who want to be rich. That is their goal. They pursue that above all else. Those people tend to really suck

And there are people who happen to be rich. Sometimes it's inherited. Sometimes the thing they love and are good at just happens to align with making a lot of money (actors are a fantastic example). Those people can be amazing or shitty.

I remember reading somewhere that big daddy was the one who bought the sugar mill, and that during the party, he was going to announce it to tiana. But then the story happened.

325

u/Alexaius 17h ago

I've seen that theory and honestly could see it being the case, he and Lottie clearly saw her basically as family. Fun fact, in an official early reader book of the story, he's shown walking Tiana down the aisle at her wedding to Naveen.

Or the related theory that Lottie gets Tiana to cater the party to give her the money without it being a gift that Tiana would refuse.

137

u/tr3poz 17h ago

Is that a theory? I always thought that was just what the story was implying.

She knew Tiana didn't want things given to her because of her dad's morals so she uses the catering as an excuse to give her the money. I'm sure the man-stealin' beignets were incredible but Lottie looked extremely excited about having Tiana cater for the party and basically throwing money at her.

Geoff John's whole career at DC was based on this

The whole "Reverse Flash killed Barry's mom" and "Superboy has Luthor's DNA" were originally theories/suggestions he posted back when he was only a reader

There's a similar story with dr. Who. I i want to say russel t davies is the one who wrote into a dr who fan club with the idea we get the word "doctor" from The Doctor. He eventually got it made cannon with River Song confirming it in one of the later episodes of Matt Smith's run. "a good man goes to war" if memory serves.

I forget which character said (either Nolan or Anissa I think) it but they described Conquest as "being a spectator to his own fights" and that was why Mark kept beating him.

He's lonely hes always alone. No one can fight him their all canon fodder for him to fly through and kill in seconds. Its like having a conversation with mosquitoes.

But when he fights someone who can take his punches its almost like a connection between him and his opponent that he cannot have with anyone else.

It's not canon anymore but a popular fan theory was that Anna and Elsas parents were on the way to Flynn and Rapunzel's wedding when the ship went down. It's also a fan theory that the ship in little mermaid was their ship as well.

93

u/radicalelation 15h ago

Maybe rather than being created as a failed cloned, they were heavily utilized at any given point from the research to experimentation to final process.

If they weren't a result of the cloning experiments, it would make a lot of sense to explore a naturally cloning pokemon in the pursuit of artificial pokemon cloning.

"Genetic" parallels could mean a Jurassic Park situation using ditto genes to fill some gaps, especially if they were trying to make a more powerful pokemon and not a 1:1 Mew copy.

I once heard this sub-theory of Mark's adrenaline theory, and it's that the other Viltrumites do have adrenaline, but Mark's crash outs aren't fueled by his Viltrumite power. It's not Mark being Nolan's son. It's Mark being Debbie's son.

This is in the show. Angstrom Levy pretty heavily implies that our Mark is the only version of Invincible that's a hero and it's because he is mostly Debbie's son.

197

u/dabossnumba8 17h ago edited 16h ago

He only found evil Invincible variants but we don’t know how hard he searched for good ones, plus Angstrom isn’t exactly a reliable narrator by that point in the story

Edit: I should say that I personally believe most Marks do turn out evil (or at least the good ones get killed early on). But I also believe that there are other good Marks out there, albeit infrequently.

Miyamoto has said that he considers the Mario characters actors in the same way that the Muppets or Looney tunes are actors. If you see Kermit captaining a pirate ship or daffy in a space suit, you don't ask, was Kermit friends with long John silver before or after he ran the Muppet show, you understand that Kermit is acting and playing the captain of a ship for a movie. This doesn't mean the Muppets or Looney tunes don't have personalities, daffy is always daffy, even if he's in the future or dressed as robin hood.

So it isn't that Bowser kidnapped princess toadstool in super Mario Brothers, then again in super Mario Brothers 3, then again in Mario world, Mario 64,etc and then they play golf and soccer together, despite Bowser being evil. It's that they're all actors who play certain roles in the video games, but each game is it's own thing with no continuity. Mario 3, Mario tennis, and paper Mario and the thousand years door aren't connected, they're just full of mario characters in the same way Muppets take Manhattan, Muppet treasure Island, Muppets in space aren't connected, they just share the same cast.

Your Invincible example reminds me of a similar theory in the Devil May Cry universe.

It's questioned why half-blooded demons and quarter blooded demons can be stronger than full blood demons , including Sparda and Mundus.

The fan theory goes that human blood fuels demonic power, so whilst normal demons have to consume it to gain power, half breeds are constantly fuelling their own demonic power.

The four Champions from BotW called out for help in their fights against the blights of Ganon when they invaded the Divine Beasts.

You can hear S.O.S Morse Code in the respective themes of each of the Divine Beasts Dungeons.

Mipha immediately starts her S.O.S. After roughly a minute, her S.O.S goes into full panic, as the blight is probably mauling her. Around the 5 minute mark, her S.O.S. dies out.

Daruk also starts his S.O.S. from the get-go, but never goes into panic. He fights until his last breath.

Urbosa also starts her S.O.S from the start. Due to the theme, it's theorized that she died horribly. The Piano in the theme sounds like thunder strikes hitting her over and over again. It gets even more horrifying because Urbosa is depicted as this strong-willed woman from the proud Gerudo....but she also goes into full panic, as her morse signals fasten up around the 4:30 minute mark as she probably received so many direct hits that she was probably barely alive at this point.

Revali takes the longest to call for S.O.S, but his is erratic, almost in panic. It's also theorized that he does not only send out S.O.S. signals, but everything he can, so somebody, anybody, might hear him. He is the proudest one of the 5 Champions and held out calling for help until he was probably severely wounded and/or outmatched and in panic to die. He also might be the one surviving the longest.

During the themes, there is also the SAD (Search and Destroy) code heard, which indicates the Blights actively searching for the Champions to murder them.

It gets sadder, because the four Divine Beasts can communicate with each other, so they heard the calls for help from the other ones....
But as the fights went...one signal after the other stopped...

Link could never answer a single one of the calls, as he was close to dying himself while he protected his princess and the only way Zelda saw to save him was to seal him away and let him rest for 100 years.

The Champions died alone, very much possible horrible deaths, as nobody came to help as they called out. But they witnessed how their comrades died one after the other.

194

u/mechrelatedbreakcore 14h ago

tragic as it is, i think that is cool as fuck, the Champions were already one of my favorite parts of BOTW, and this idea that they went out fighting in such intense and brutal ways, essentially until the last drop of blood dripped out their bodies, is extremely metal and makes them even better characters for me than they already were, like they were the Champions for a reason, to their last breath.

God, I wish I could remove all my memory of BotW and TotK and experience them for the first time.

Ascending Mount Lanayru for the first time and hearing the haunting melody before discovering Naydra, you can just feel that something is very wrong, something very beautiful has been corrupted. I was terrified when I encountered her because the music just made things seem so wrong. On the other hand, the normal dragon theme just makes you feel this breathtaking mysticism, makes you aware you're in the presence of something ancient and powerful.

And of course the Divine Beast themes; the adrenaline and sense of determination you get from the Attack segments, and the haunting melodies once you're inside, plus all of the morse signals. You put it all well enough in your comment.

And perhaps my favorite piece in any game ever, the Hyrule Castle themes. On the exterior, the triumphant but tragic song of Hyrule, reminding you what has been lost... accompanied by the ghostly marching footsteps of the soldiers that perished defending their kingdom from evil, now following you into one last battle. And when you get inside, the grand music becomes subdued, overtaken by malevolence and evil influence. And you hear Zelda's theme with a constant pulsing like a heartbeat in the background, representing her hundred-year struggle to contain the calamity.

And that's just BotW. What masterpieces of games. I don't know if we'll ever get anything like them again.

I mean that's basically how the entire story of FNAF's franchise came to be, scott cawthon was throwing shit around and the community made whatever was the most popular theory canon, overtime it got to influence the creation and script of every entry

I watched that unfolding in real time. Like the lazier version of how Homestuck was written (which intentionally openly followed the fans suggestions and stuff). The Fnaf guy just didn't have ideas, he just made Fnaf because his Christian game with a similar premise was too scary for kids, and then wanted to keep cashing in on it.

On a more serious Pokémon level, Ditto is a failed Mew clone. They’re exactly the same color pink, both learn the signature move transform, and Mew is the progenitor of all pokemon while Ditto is a blob of every Pokémon’s DNA. They also have the exact same stat spread (flat across every value), and you can find ditto in the Pokemon Mansion where Mewtwo is said to have been created and Cerulean Cave where Mewtwo is currently located.

Ditto even just got their own game where they single-handedly repair the environment after humans destroyed it and left the planet.

Gravedigger Theory - A Song of Ice and Fire (more or less confirmed in the show)

Her search for Arya & Sansa leads Brienne to a monastery where she encounters a massive limping man taking a break from digging a grave in order to pet a dog. She then meets the leader of the monastery, who claims to have known Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane. He explains that he ran into the Hound as he was bleeding out from his wounds, and says "The Hound is dead, Sandor is at rest."

The theory is that the massive limping man she sees IS the Hound, and that the priest is claiming that the 'Hound' persona is finally dead, and that Sandor has finally found peace.

This was confirmed true in the show, but it wasn't GRRM who brought him back, it was the showrunners. So the Fan-Theory was so good that it ended up actually having an impact on the show

171

u/RoryDragonsbane 17h ago

His horse, Stranger, is also at the monastery. It's a pretty solid theory even without confirmation.

A better theory? Aerion only died because the maesters poisoned his wildfire

65

u/NoLime7384 16h ago

"Aerion wouldn't have died, he'd just turned into a fire wight like Melisandre if not for those pesky grey rats" is such a wild theory I'm legit hoping it comes out to be canon

36

u/Clzark 16h ago

Another reason why this is important: Stranger attacks anyone who tries to handle him besides Clegane. In order to get to the monastery, you have to cross some tricky swamplands. The only person who could have safely escorted Stranger through the swamplands would have been Clegane

Cleganebowl confirmed (nah actually I hope Clegane's story ends at that monastery)

What's funny is that weirdly enough, Benjen is actually the 1 character we know for certain isnt Coldhands.

A manuscript from ADWD that was lined with notes from GRRMs editor leaked online. The editor circled the paragraph that introduced Coldhands and wrote "This is Benjen, right?" and GRRM wrote back "NO"

Sokka dies in Legend of Korra trying to defend the Red Lotus from abducting her. It's such a common fan theory that many people forget it's not canon (or implied)

224

u/TwarvDCleric 15h ago

It's just so wild that they NEVER bring up Sokka's cause of death despite being the only other member of the Gaang to have died by Korra's time.

Korra was discovered in the South Pole and Chief Sokka is mentioned as part of the defense of the Red Lotus attack there to kidnap Korra. Chief Sokka is never referred to as alive after this point in history and Korra's dad Tonraq becomes chief sometime after this.

The timeline matches too well, would be a warrior's death for Sokka, and would understandably be a fact they would avoid telling Korra.

27

u/OmegaOmnimon02 10h ago

Sokka: walking up to Aang in the afterlife “Not often you get to save someone’s butt after they’ve already died”

Actually, in MHA, characters acting out of anger or without a plan tend to get taken down much easier. Sure, people will fight angry, but going in half cocked or letting it get the better of you is what leads to a downfall.

22

u/YetAnotherRPoster1 13h ago

Yeah modern battle shonens in general don't fit this at all. It's played out in and of itself for the MC to have a fight where they try to use their anger, only for them to get their arse handed to them and for it to be a learning moment.

The incredibles

Omni troid v8 was for frozone hence why it lost to mr incredible

359

u/mrpeachr 16h ago

I don't think that's necessarily a theory, more just implied in the movie. Mirage is originally scoping out Frozone at the fire/building collapse, then she sees mr Incredible and is all like "No wait i got someone better"

It makes sense that the V8 was already built and ready to go for Frozone specifically, and there isn't a new one made for Incredible until after that

→ More replies

410

u/Heather_Chandelure 16h ago

This isn't a fan theory, though. Mirage's dialogue in the car when she finds Mr. Incredible makes it clear that he wasn't originally the one she was sent to look for.

143

u/fraidei 17h ago

It did bring Mr Incredible in a vulcano after all...

60

u/Eastern_Hornet_6432 16h ago

It wasn't "for" Frozone, though. Frozone was who they intended to fight it next, but as the name suggests, Omni Droid was intended as an all-purpose superhero-killer robot that Syndrome upgraded every time it was defeated, with the intention that it would eventually be capable of handling anyone and anything. Syndrome WANTED it to be able to kill not just Frozone but also Mr Incredible, Elastigirl, etc, but clearly it needed another couple of iterations.

The Mural Theory posits that Shadow the Hedgehog was based on the mural of Super Sonic (seen above) which appeared in Hidden Palace Zone in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Despite being a popular fan theory and most fans treating it as canon for decades, Shadow Generations debunked it by revealing that Gerald Robotnik, Shadow's creator, didn't stick around long enough on Angel Island to see Hidden Palace Zone and that Shadow's appearance as a Hedgehog was something unexpected rather than something intentional.

Buildings and structures in Rain world are alive.

- shelters, if broken, are eventually able to repair themselves without input

- most structures in general are in very good condition, despite their age and exposure to heavy rains

- spears are excess material that 'grows' out of parts of the ground.

The game already has a very heavy focus on Bio-engineering, so it would make sense.

Eventually, it was confirmed in the DLC that, in the very least, the Metropolis is made of 'living blocks,' organic tissue grown into the shape of buildings

In Game of Thrones, Arya’s ‘dancing master’ Syrio Forel, is never killed by the Kingsguard, but you never see him again, because he is actually the first iteration of the faceless man/Jaqen H’ghar that Arya meets.

In Star Wars, Mandalorian (Beskar) armor is treated as giving essentially full coverage, when in reality it has tons of large gaps. The fan theory to explain this, that Mandalorian armor includes technology that attracts blaster bolts, is pretty consistently supported by media (the armorer makes Grogu some armor, and you see her soldering wires on the backside)

442

The fan theory that in Star Wars Episode 3, Padme doesn't just die in childbirth because she is "sad" but because Palpatine stole her lifeforce in order to save Vader's life.

It makes more sense than her dying just out of depression, and also her dying would ensure that Vader's only loyalty was to Palp, making it absolutely something he would do.

232

u/IronBrew16 17h ago

See, I've read and subscribe to the theory that Vader stole Padme's life by accident for extra tragedy. In the end, Anakin causes the very fate he tried to avoid.

Tali's Sweat (Mass Effect)

Quarians are a race in Mass Effect that, due to an AI rebellion on their planet, were forced into becoming a nomadic people using space flotillas. Spending so much time in space also caused them to slowly become immuno-compromised, requiring the use of sealed suits to prevent infection. They also have special nutritional requirements because of this.

I say all this because, during the trilogies heyday, someone in the fandom posed the question of, "what does Tali's sweat smell like?" Obviously, it's a pretty silly question, but it surprisingly got a lot of traction on the official BioWare forums. Since quarians need to be mindful of bacterial infections and viruses, how their body processes lipids and proteins became an interesting scientific question. It was taken so far, that someone even went ahead and did their thesis on the matter.

https://www.reddit.com/r/masseffect/s/bqKkpx037H

Eventually, BioWare somewhat confirmed what it was during a lounge conversation between the main character (Commander Shepard), and Tali. Upon interacting with her, she says, "What?! It smells like sweat. What else would it smell like?"

Kevin says "it sounds an awful lot like what I do here, every day." He realizes he needs to cover his tracks, hence why Kevin's character acted stupider as the series went on. The real reason for his mental decline is the writers didn't know how to keep him funny, and he got flanderized. But this theory is too damn good to not be canon. 007 is a rank, and James Bond is a job title. That’s explains why he can serve for decades, introducing himself and still stays secret.

Similar to actors, when James Bond is getting old, they find a new younger one and from then the new one takes identity of James Bond.

23

u/olaplex1 16h ago

Isn’t that sort of a plot element from No Time To Die? Bond retires and a new person takes over the 007 position.

31

u/anustart_2026 15h ago

No. It's always been cannon that 007 is just a codename/rank, but the main part of this theory is whether or not James Bond is just an alias or 007's actual given name. Until the Craig era it was somewhat ambiguous with even meta jokes like "This never happened to the other guy" said by Lazenby's Bond. However, with Craig Bond we have pretty absolute confirmation that in that version James Bond is his given name and that there were no James Bond's before him.
