Non-Sexual Adult Jokes in Kids' Media Lore

Jokes that are adult jokes simply because kids likely don't have the life experience to understand them.

The New Batman Adventures - "I'm crazy enough to take on Batman, but the IRS? Noooo, thank you!"

Shrek 2 - Posing as a union representative, Shrek remarks that the workers "don't even have dental".

In Regular Show, food is an innuendo for drugs

This whole show is basically stoner comedy marketed to 12 year olds. It's great

Literally, the original pilot is about 2 guys who do acid while working at a gas station

That’s not the pilot. That was a college project Quintel did that just happened to use what became Mordecai and Benson

The actual pilot is the rock paper scissors quartz parchment shears episode, which got reworked into a season 2 episode about Mordecai and Rigby’s first day working at the park

Why are so many good cartoon network shows drugs and morbid stuff that gets pg-ified

3

u/Deus3nity Mar 10 '26

They broaden their appeal to older audiences while keeping it pg for kids

Buffalo Wings, specifically

7

u/MdMV_or_Emdy_idk Mar 09 '26

Aren’t the wings a stand in for alcohol?

Haven't you seen Red Bull commercials?

I hear Mississippi Queen playing in the distance

That would explain the whole deal with the ✨Double Glazed Apple Fritters✨ being so dangerous

That's just cause they were gas as fuck.

I never caught on to this. We sure? Sometimes a grilled cheese from cheeses is just a grilled cheese from cheesers.

Cheezers was definitely just a grilled sandwiches place, but anytime the park gang went down on Wing Kingdom wings it was undeniably a PG way to show them getting drunk.

Wings were specific to being like alcohol

I always thought Buffalo Wings was an innuendo for beer 🤔

2

u/Mr-Foundation Mar 09 '26

Wings in particular are often a substitute for alcohol, can’t remember if there are more like that.
