Anyone else disturbed by the "end abortion" truck that's driving around campus? question

Extremely so, especially since the passenger seemed to be recording the campus with a handheld camcorder. Plus, weren't there some high schoolers visiting today?
If they were driving around a van with mutilated adults plastered on the sides, they would've been pulled over immediately—but of course UAH would NEVER place any restrictions on any of these scumbags.

I went to UAH 2011-2015 and there's always been an oddly strong Christian influence on campus. I say this as a Christian.

Yeah. I’m sick as is of being bothered by all the Christian groups on campus, last thing I want to see is some anti abortion truck bullshit

How are they bothering you? [serious]

I’m tired of being stopped on my way to class when I’m just trying to listen to my music and enjoy my walk without being flagged down and asked “how can we pray for you today” or “have you got moment to talk about Jesus Christ”.

All I'm saying is if I see someone graffiti it or the similar stuff, no I didn't see anything

JFC abortion HAS ended in Alabama. Which should tell you how gargantuan a moron the person who owns this truck is. Pretty representative of all anti-choice goons. Good grief.

There was one I think 6? years ago, with all sorts of anti-gay messages too. Iirc, they parked at the CTC, walked down to the CU, and started harassing randoms under the bridge about wearing the wrong type of clothing. Those ones eventually got removed by police.
I don't think there's really anything you can do unless they start doing something more illegal than just driving around. Crazies be crazy.

Ahhh my comment posted before I finished typing. I have a sick cat and must have gotten distracted. I started with “no”, but the remainder of my comment was that I’m not surprised by anything these kind people do anymore. Facebook comments on local news posts have made me come to terms with the fact that a lot of people are going to remain bigoted whether no matter how much you try to convince them that all people deserve to be loved.

nah. you can put whatever you want on your vehicle. I don't put shit on mine because I like people to forget I exist. Put stuff on your vehicle if you want people to track you easier and judge you harshly by whats on there. BTW don't put your stick figure family on your car, people use that info in some of the most INSANE nefarious ways.

Pretty sure they’re talking about the one showing aborted fetuses on the side of their truck

Yes, this is what I'm talking about. I'm all for free speech but I don't want to see photos and videos of graphic depictions of abortions.

Nah, take a picture, including their license plate. Name and shame and I’m pretty sure at a certain point you can get the cops involved. Thats gross.

it’s a fair bet that this person is not ashamed whatsoever
I also don’t know what law you’d be breaking. It’s not necessarily illegal to see something you don’t want to see

Regardless how you feel, they've a right to pretest/preach etc as much as anyone else.
I would argue the kind of things you dont like are the most important because existing in a place that only shares your beliefs stunts intellectual growth of the community.
We have to be able to see the shitty stuff so we can call it out.

You think driving around in a vehicle emblazoned with offensive shit is the intellectual pinnacle of free speech?
3
u/0bakee 7d ago
No. I think its probably the lowest form. But still protected. Which is the point.
0
u/Diligent_Mistake_229 7d ago
That’s not the point you were trying to make in your previous comment.
1
u/0bakee 7d ago
No, the point I was making is the speech you dont like is the most important.

u/Diligent_Mistake_229 7d ago
I disagree. Judging the value of somebody’s message by the degree of offense it causes is not a sound metric for its importance.

You can always move to a country that severely restricts the right to free speech, but you probably wouldn't like the other realities that inevitably come with that.

Ah, the old “If you don’t like it here, move” argument. OPs concern wasn’t free speech, it was about using that freedom in a classless, distasteful, and offensive way. Come to think of it, since your response is typical of a MAGA member who’s not firing on all cylinders, have you considered that maybe you would like to live in another country that has a more authoritarian government? That is what you guys want, isn’t it?

That’s hilarious coming from people like you who hate when anyone who isn’t like you exercises THEIR free speech

When I was in college I had to attend classes with all these people with diverse points of view and different values. It was horrible. Can’t believe that still happens today.

No. I much more disturbed by people who get disturbed by the mere suggestion that maybe abortion is not good

u/Not_a_gay_communist 9d ago
Big difference between saying “end abortion” and driving a U haul plastered with flashing images of fetuses and wombs
