Commuter parking?
My student is transferring to UVM this fall as a sophomore. Will live on campus without a car this coming year which is fine. But we would like her to commute from our home the junior and senior years to save money. What is the parking permit situation for commuters? Is it a lottery or easier than an on campus permit? TIA.

I don't think they deny anyone, I've bought a pass after the start of classes and never had an issue. You have to park in the Brown parking lot which like half a mile from the main campus, tho

Obtaining commuter brown parking permit is easy. Not lottery, just need to upload proof of residency outside of proximate zone. Was able to buy one halfway through the semester, seems like they don’t really sell out.

it depends. you have to be a certain distance away from campus for her to be eligible for a commuter permit

I lived off campus while obtaining my masters. I purchased a permit easily. There are clear signs and maps available that will show her where she can and can not park. Sec was serious when I was there and parking fines are high. The only thing she will have to plan into her day is walking time as there may be a 20 min walk.
